Television General Discussion

…ooooop!

Wouldn’t that just make him more qualified to write a show about the criminal justice system?

I’m pretty excited. The Boys was probably my most fun surprise watch of last year. Been trying really hard to stay away from the comics, but it’s been difficult haha

Same here, a couple people referred it to me but I didn’t think much of it, until one showed me the first episode, I got hooked once I saw the ending.

The comics and adaptation couldn’t be farther apart

I understand there’s a part in the comics where an alien who looks like a skinned animal gets gangbanged by dicks. Fortunately I heard they’re leaving that guy out.

Random, but:
I watched what happened with Game of Thrones season 8, but never watched the show. I know some key moments everyone hated, but I don’t know how bad a finale it was in context of every season before.

Somewhere on the internet, people were talking about how GOT S8 virtually erased GOT from pop culture history. Nobody’s talking about rewatching it in quarantine, and we haven’t heard too much about spinoffs or anything. This is after years of it being THE show everyone was talking about.

Anyway, I asked if GOT S8 was REALLY that bad. It can’t be worse than Dexter, right? Responses were varied, but some said it was worse. The reason? Dexter’s seasons were “self-contained” enough that you could watch the good ones even knowing how the series ends. But GOT had all these ongoing storylines that were resolved badly with 8 and left a bad taste in peoples’ mouths.

Fans of the show here: is this true? I never even pondered that a final season could be as bad or worse than Dexter for that reason, but it kinda makes sense. Still though, I doubt it’s worse than Dexter off of sheer “that’s not possible” feeling alone.

I said I watched what happened (memes and chaos) with S8, but never watched the show. Though, you may have caught me before edits I made for clarification/elaboration.

sheeeittt, I’m still way back there in season 1. I have hbomax so maybe now is finally the time.

24 is one of those where I had no interest in watching the new one; I think it was a couple of years later they brought it back…WITHOUT “Jack Bauer”…and 24 without Bauer? Hell naw get out of my face with that. The season that ended with him simply walking off into the distance was also the greatest “true finale” possibly ever, imo.

Re-watching Vampire Diaries again; still reflecting on how great a season finale the 6th one was. Kai was 2nd only to Niklaus in how dangerous he was. That dude showed up and wrecked everything in grand fashion, leaving major characters dead (or fucked over in Tyler’s case; re-activated his curse) and put that spell on Elena and Bonnie that would last through to the series end in season 8!

Ive not watched dexter but I can tell you GOT season 8 was super shit. The best word to describe it is “Rushed”

That’s exactly it. The whole series up to that point was a slow, dramatic burn that steadily escalated. I’m not so much disappointed with how events played out, it just felt really rushed and out of place in the context of the entire show. Having Dani burn King’s Landing was awesome, but it was almost like a fucking flip was switched to turn her into murder mode. Rushed is exactly the best word to describe it. And it’s unfortunate because, for the most part, the rest of the show leading up to it was excellent.

Yeah, I have no idea of why they did that. Yes, they had Disney, but couldn’t they have handed that show off to some people or something? Surely getting heat for wrapping everything up in a bad manner wouldn’t help them with Disney, whether or not they stayed (think they left for Netflix). But they had to chase that dollar.

I heard disney dropped their asses cos of the backlash on GOT. Hoping thats true.

Dexter is a masterpiece if you pretend the series ended after season 4. It is a perfect way to end the series.
