are you sure, because there aint much air launching in the preview, and i doubt there will be from what ive seen… i mean, even if they say that, the thing i saw was all about street fighter… seems like they would say something like that to pull in the cvs fan and the ssf4 fans.
edit: oooh lol capcom vs snk drrrr, well i never played that so i hope its good… i didnt like snk.
What?? We have no idea if that’s true or not. We’ve seen one single 45-second gameplay clip of what’s little more than a proof-of-concept build.
There’s going to be 2 games… SF x Tekken (by Capcom) and Tekken x SF (by Namco). Each will be based around the company’s respective styles. SFxT will be 2D, TxSF will be 3D. Beyond that, we know very little about how the games will actually play.
I’m excited to see what Capcom does with this… I’ve never been a big Tekken fan (too many bad memories of that leopard headed fighter owning my face on the PS1). SF x Tekken should be cool though.
Although I prefer Street Fighter over Tekken I’m more looking forward to TxSF because it’ll be the first 3D fighting game with Street Fighter characters (Final Fight Revenge doesn’t count).
SSF4 will remain 2D king when SFxT is released.
TxSF however might end up being the new 3D king.
Dunno what is going on with post #2, anyways del1rium said it right.
Btw, regading the expression in the first post, “ssf4 style”, well, Ono has said already there won’t be Focus Attacks, so you have one thing already cleared out (or, maybe…). And, while this is not an indication for anything, by looking the teasers we’ve see being shown three times, you notice some little differences compared to SFIV (just look for threads/posts analyzing the mentioned videos for info on possible changes)
Also in the most recent teaser (ALMOST identical to the first ones), shown on fev 2011, you notice roll and “ground bounce” moves: WhZIgQToG1w]YouTube - [Taipei TGS
I have to say that i share a similar interest of john4p: SF is the perennial role model of 2D fighting, so amputing a dimension of TK characters is not a very difficult task (besides the fact this “downwards” path, removing a dimension, is easier than the opposite task).
Now the hot thing is definetly with Namco, luckily an equally competent and succesful company with this [sub]genre over the years. I don’t even care if they fail in the range of their selection of characters; if they mostly put SSF2 characters, with only a few, 1 or 2 from other series, but the game actually MAKES IT, then it will be one of the biggest contributions to the fighting game “culture”. In fact, SF2 characters are perfect, so they are better suited for such “experiment” – so if they focus their selection in SF2 characters, there is also an utilitarian/practical aspect to it.
Maybe you’re young—like ***really ***young. You don’t know about the EX series? There are 3 of those
games and they’re all 3D, with 3D movement just like Tekken eventually introduced later. And what
the heck man, do you still not realize that SSFIV is 3D? Fighting on a 2D plane?
At the time SFEX came out, it was mostly equivalent to the other 3D fighters of the time. Sidestepping wasn’t a “thing” until VF and Tekken 3. In functional terms, the games use non-flipped characters and 3D hitboxes, so it’s pretty 3D, although there are less moves that will cause z-axis movement, 2D style corners, and the typical differences in move sets. Same with Rival Schools.
Virtua Fighter came out three years, and Tekken two years before the first EX game though.
