Tekken Tag Tiers?

TTT is an unusual game in that the tiers aren’t very far apart…except maybe korean mishima wavedashing. It’s quite possible to play any character with a fairly good chance of winning especially since I don’t imagine your arcade attracts seriously good TTT competition anymore.

Comments on the tier list…yes the mishimas are high with the low/high/throw mix up out of wavedash…ogres are high. 1,1,2 for ogres and mishimas is also useful. Yoshi flash owns…it’s a free high damage combo for a 5 frame counterattack. Flash into u+1+2, 1+2. large number of useful unblockables, fast jab, f,f+4, etc. Too bad d/f+4 was weakened from Tekken 3 :(. if any of you play T3 still, d/f+4 with Yoshi was the shit :). Anyway, the tier list really should be something like mishimas + ogres in first tier and nearly everyone else in a second tier except alex/roger.

Nearly every character in the game has strategies that gives them good chances to win. But since you seem to want to win fast, start with the Mishimas, Bruce, Brian, and Julia since their games are very easy to learn in comparison to many others…Julia is better than Michelle for one reason…mad axes…
The Ogres, hwaorang, yoshimitsu, grapplers, etc. are not easy to learn quickly on a highly competitive level.

It’s good to know a little about every character though, otherwise you’ll get hit with strings you don’t know how to block and you won’t know where you can poke people out with a d+1.
I’d suggest you learn a little about everyone if you really want to win.

Very basic rundown on Mishimas -
1,1,2 = 1 is usually pretty safe…and if it lands, the rest of the combo is free. Good damage, very fast.
f,n,d,d/f,f + 2 = (e)wgf. juggle starter, leads into very very high damage combos…hits mid and is only 11 frames.
f,n,d,d/f+4 = hell sweep. It’s also juggle starter, and hits low…good mixup
f,f+1+2 = headbutt throw…requires 1+2 to break out of it…can be tech rolled.
f,n,d,d/f,f+4,(4) = axe kicks, alternate motion possible with Jin and Kazuya d/f+4,(4). second kick can be delayed, is often used as part of a juggle. (e.g. ewgf, 1, move forward, 1,2, axe kicks) and hits mid…good for a beginner to hit crouchers if you haven’t mastered EWGF.

These alone will take you far in TTT if you just want to win early…it’ll take a LOT more work for you to get really great at the game.

a) actually you gotta see if the second 1 hits, cause sometimes the first 1 will hit, the 2nd 1 will whiff (if you’re off axis) and if the 2nd 1 whiffs, the knockdown 2 punch can be blocked

b) ewgf doesn’t hit mid. hits special mid for kaz/hei meaning it can be blocked either high or low, unlike jin’s which is high unless its tagged and in that case its special mid as well.

c)kazuya’s hell sweep juggles are pretty hard, so perhaps you were just referring to the other 2

Yeah, I was just being really general with the Mishimas since he’s a newbie. They really deserve their own section each. And yeah, I did mess up since I haven’t really played Tekken for a bit over a year now. (T4 - King’s (f,N,d,d/f,f+1+3) 2,1+2,1+2+3, Mash all 4 keys for rolling death cradle was funny.)

Yeah, wgf is special mid for Heihachi, Devil, and Kazuya. Jin has to do his ewgf for it to hit special mid or hit tag while doing it. Heihachi also has ewgf…not sure about Devil and Kazuya…it’s been too long.
Thanks.
Also, the 1,1,2 is almost always guaranteed if the first 1 hits on CH, but like you say…it’s good to keep an eye out for the second 1 to hit.

Another thing to think about is learning to cancel the wavedash so you throw out of it, do WS moves, etc. etc.

And if you play scrubs, it might be fun to play Kazuya and hit them with a WS 2 on CH…then do the unblockable  hell if they don’t know how to tech roll you can do the fast unblockable off a wgf. I was really bored one day in the arcade and started doing this to some hwaorang/eddy masher. really funny to see KO 8 seconds into the match and the look on their face.

so does everyone else, except without the sound, everyone can runaway, i think devil’s runaway is the cheapest.

You’re right, everyone can runaway, but Lei does it the fastest.
Lei has the Haha Step which is done by doing (b+3+4~b, repeat) IIRC. (there’s also another way, but I forget the motion)
Everyone else has the Universal Haha Step which is done by doing (qcb,b, repeat).

Lei’s Haha > ‘Universal Haha’ (aka infinite backdash)

so it’s like…do Lei’s haha step backwards…when someone charges at you…d+3+4 or d+1+2 to lie down to avoid the charge…then get up and haha step again :stuck_out_tongue:

i never thought it was the fastest…well doesn’t matter anyway, at least he can play dead and razor rush which makes runaway better.
db~b repeat is faster than qcb method. haha can be fucked up easier.

oh yeah lei’s silent step b+3+4~b, hoho step b+3~4~b, hahastep b+4~3~b

Whooptie doo, he can run away, but how does that compare with Paul’s damage or Nina’s pokes? U cant just run away, u gots ta deal the damage. Lei has practically no good finishes.

well its pretty even after ogres and mishimas. it just depends on the user.

similar characters pair good together, like lei/ling, changs, kickboxers. lei is considered better than paul because hes more versatile, he can mixup better, and he’s cheap, and he dictates the match more imo. paul is good too, but his t3 t4 characters are much better.

paul has the worst sidestep in the game and low stamina.

d+4…hits…run away for rest of match…or have your other character in first…paul actually isn’t that great in tekken tag…far too linear so his strats are limited. And he’s vulnerable for too many frames after many of his attacks when they’re blocked…still I play him and like him, but he’s not better than Lei in competition.
Another mixup with haha step is to sidestep (SS), then haha step…and repeat or mix up with regular backdash…regular backdashing for most characters is sick enough…there used to be a vid of someone backdashing like nuts around tekkenzaibatsu

Overall, once you get past Jin/devil/heihachi/sometimes kazuya and the ogres…the tiers get a lot closer.

Better since king is up there. Armor King needs to be added to Teir 2 also. After that its perfect.

Kinda funny cuz Icebeast wrote Kings which includes Armor King.

Armor King has the ability to mess you up with one 2+4 throw…add the chain after it and then go for the d+1+2 or the d/b+4, or any ground hit and you’ve got yourself some nasty damage. Also his jumping knee…but whatever…simple character with big damage possibilities.

Just adding…usually the characters with special ways of getting around are ranked higher…wavedashing for mishima characters + kazuya’s mist step, Lee’s mist step (f, N), armor king/nina/king/paul have modified dashes, Lei, Ling, have specials ways of moving/evasion as well. Ogres and Changs get away with having no special dodges by having priority on moves and better than average wakeup/okizeme games.

Changs have triple sidestep (SS, 3+4, SS). The Ogres and Bruce are the only top/2nd tier characters who don’t have some kind of useful modified movement options. And they don’t need them anyway because their game is so solid

agree, but ogre 1 also has the best sidestep in the game. bruce and him can easily dodge shit with stairs ss~bb~ss~bb.

and i think the mist step for lee is overrated and imo not that useful because you can’t cancel to it from moves like in tk4.

True, true…also Yoshimitsu has some funky dodges…most useful is b+3+4 I think…the one that costs life to dodge. It’s a good setup since you can throw off it even if you do it twice…or some other wacky combo. People without good SS/movements/dodges can still win, but guys like the Jacks are just so much harder to learn.

JOP had dope Jacks

Oh well… since this is like the only thread…

What the biggest difference between T4 and TTT?

I play Jun and King on TTT and King on T4

biggest difference? if u play both, and don’t relize that the enviornments are the biggest difference…

other differences…

-position change replaces one throw, but u can hit f+2+4 to get the other throw.

-gameplay is slower in 4

-juggles are a bitch if you’re not paying attention to where u are in 4

jun is … ehh… ok in ttt. she’s not even able to compete with jack, but she’s… fuck it… she sucks. king has always been decent… if u can get throws going for you, then he’s a bitch to fight. but seriously, since u can mash throws, you’ll prolly never get a full throw.

:wtf:

Arrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhh

Damn it… Jun owns the game… I hate you… die!!11111
