SFVās loading times are 30 seconds to a minute, Tekken 7 recent buildnon ps4 is supposedly 15 to 18 seconds of loading time. Iām happy they are learning from street fighter and not rushing. https://twitter.com/Harada_TEKKEN/status/823543398623629313
Iām not Namco so I donāt care about how many copies the game will sell to people that will never go online and will drop the game as soon as they have all the trophies. Of course they care because they make more money out of it.
People wanted SFV to be released in June, but at least I got to play the game for 4 additional months and its core was at least functional. Here on the other hand we have a game that has been out for two entire years in the arcades and only a very small amount of people outside Korea and Japan got their hands on it. People who are actually interested in fighting games have probably lost any interest a while ago, which is probably the reason why they can only bet on casuals right now.
That is a stupid stance to take. Games are built on sales and support over time. Your game doesnāt just start off appealing to hardcore fans outta nowhere. You get those casual players interested and they stick around for who knows how long. In order for that to work your game needs to be considered fun in more than just itās core these days.
The arcade release isnāt really going to hurt it as much as people seem to think. Whatever money Bamco makes, and will continue to make btw, will probably more than cover the costs of a poor performing console version. Also, when SFV released it wasnāt just bad the servers were all sorts of fucked for bout a week or so. The hardcore players (people attending tournaments) are going to buy T7 because itās 1) not TTT2 and 2) Tekken. These are not the people you appeal to with these features since their probably going to suck itās dick anyways when it releases. The people who will make up the majority of the console sales are the ones who feel like they got ripped off by SFV and play these games casually.
On a sidenote, this is a trend I want to see continued. I donāt want fighting games releasing with shallow features and fucked servers day one just because they want the game out earlier. SFV needed one year to even be decent, thatās not a trend most fighting games can afford to follow nor should it be the standard. Especially, if the company is large enough to do better. Sure it sucks not being able to play T7, but itās going to release and iām going to play it every aspect of it.
I own every console Tekken game since the first one and I have no reason to get Tekken 7. As for casuals, Injustice 2 releases into their hands May 16, two weeks before Tekken 7. American sales are likely to tank hard. European sales may hold up to Tekken Tag 2, since DC Comics are not as big there. As for Asia, hardly anyone owns a console over there anymore and they prefer to play in Arcades as the have done for the past 2.5+ years since the October 2014 Location Test.
