T7 will have online tournament mode

it got anounced with kuma/panda, there are even some screenshots of how it will look like or might look like.

based on the image it has a ingame chat and even voice chat option.
the winner gets some ingame currency? i wonder if thats just the case for some official ones or of its handled so that
everyone or the tournament opener has to offer his own points as a reward.

i am really looking forward to this game…i hope they dont screw up the netcode.

tekkens netcode is usually solid and accomodates for both players connection pretty well
only one that was near trash was tekken 6
that shit was rough

This really takes me back. Started with Tekken 3 as little kid and finished with Tekken 5 when I moved to PC gaming. Didn’t get proper chance or money back in days to get PS3 or 360 so I’m finally back with 7’s PC release.

Paul and King will rise again (I need to try Akuma as well though).

Funny, I have been enjoying Tekken 6 on PC with benefits for nearly half a decade now. Console version is okay and has more customization options, but nothing beats removing bound or choosing a favorite stage or opponent without fail every round with a few clicks. All the other Tekkens are faithfully emulated as well outside of Tekken Tag 2, which is in my personal opinion no big loss.

I wish I could have the same experience with the later Virtua Fighter games, but Fighters Megamix is a decent enough substitute for when my PS3 disc drive decides to stop working.

Paul and King are very good in this installment, so you are in luck. Can’t say the same for the new mechanics and the plethora of strange streamlining and balancing decisions though.

Edit: Thanks to the pcsx2 team my copies of Virtua Fighter 4 and Evolution are also playable.

Since they want to anounce the release this month, is there any event to look forward too on which they might anounce it?

I thought we will get something this week but as it seems its not the case…

i hope it comes before injustice so that they dont overlap.

Kinda crazy people still even ask if Tekken is gonna have good netcode… No major problems with it during the korea/japan arcade release after 2yrs and 2 versions of the game (base and FR). I mean even if you don’t take that into account there’s still TTT2, TR, and SCV to look at for latest examples of the games being pretty damn stable and smooth online.

last tekken games i played where 1-3.
so i am completely out of the loop when it comes down of how the actuall games netcodes are…seeing how some other games fail with it in the recent years, even tho
when some managed to improve it made me worry a bit.

edit- does anyone know the name of the song which they used for several trailers including the last wrestling colab one?

That is not true. There is more input lag to fake a better online experience and syncing issues due to players viewing the action from different perspectives (chosen side).

Looking forward to jumping back into Tekken after abandoning it during the arcade abomination that was 4.

Consider this a warning:

[details=Spoiler]
Since Tekken 5 implemented a high crush system, mids and highs cannot beat a hop kick launcher at a frame advantage. Regular movement has been nerfed and backdash canceling has become a necessity. Whiff punish juggles have become the primary method of doing damage.
Since Tekken 5 implemented crush moves, some attacks can ā€œparryā€ an incoming attack and hit despite being at a frame disadvantage.
Since Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection low parry has the same effect as a launch.

Since Tekken 6 juggle extensions have become an important part of the gameplay.
Since Tekken 6 some moves (called homing) have the ability to nullify sidestep 100% of the time despite looking linear.
Since Tekken 6 added an attack boost triggered by low health (called rage), a juggle from a low health opponent can do much more damage.
Since Tekken 6 the online community on PlayStation has become very strong.

Since Tekken Tag 2, the controls are not as responsive due to built in input lag, but a plethora of shortcuts fill the gap in for poor execution.
Since Tekken Tag 2, sidestepping has become less effective than backdash canceling for dodging attacks.

Since Tekken 7 the roster has greatly changed as have character designs.
Since Tekken 7 every character has an armored move (power crush) that is only vulnerable to lows and throws.
Since Tekken 7 the juggle extension (called screw attack) causes an opponent to go into tail spin until they get thrown (by certain characters), hit a wall, get sent into the ground causing a floor break (using bound move), or they land on their back feet up ready for a relaunch.
Since Tekken 7 rage has lost most of its damage modifier and can instead be used for rage drives (armored moves that often cause an extra launch or tailspin) or rage arts (slow armored moves that start a cinematic).
Since Tekken 7 there is a short period of safe wake up.
Since Tekken 7 long juggles are heavily scaled unless reset with screw attack, wall splat, floor break, or oki hurting characters like Nina.

Since latest Tekken 7 update movement has been standardized across the cast.
Japanese and Korean players have been playing Tekken 7 since 2015.
A tournament mode and exclusive (for now) characters been added to console version.[/details]

if you have a ps3 you can always check out TR since it’s F2P. It’ll be up till March 21 then the servers are going down.

abandoned the world of consoles after the ps1.
i know you can use emulators but i didnt bothered with them over the years and i just wait now for
7 to drop to reenter…shouldnt be so long anymore.

I wanna assume that TR servers going down soon is a sign that the game should be coming soon. Otherwise, I guess they costed too much because the game was still being played even to this day.

btw i’ve been considering making a general King guide of sorts for people just getting into Tekken from other games, but i’m afraid my scrubbiness would show too much. Mainly though because I imagine people see King as a grappler and his chain throws get over emphasized in conversations about him at the beginner levels. Also, because I love King.

yeah, i can see how they want to get rid of a potential inhouse concurent to push the new game more.
23 days max and we should know more.

when you have fun to do one, why not?
worst things which can happen is that people who might have more knowledge correct you on things which leads to a better guide and you learning something.

I’m gonna b using stick 2 play T7 when it comes out so I have been learning movement all over again and it just reminds me how deep this game is. One of the main reasons I love tekken so much over most fgs is because of how complex every aspect of it is. T7 cant come out soon enough

I kinda disagree, Tekken is actually pretty simple. There’s no real complicated idea once you get into it. I think that most of the depth comes from one of it’s biggest weaknesses (and something it takes advantage of as well) in the form of not changing the base idea too much over the course of several games. What I mean is things like BDC have been around for ages, but were never removed. This adds depth that now seen as a fundamental tool of the game.

But the games themselves are actually pretty straight forward and simple. There’s no real complicated mechanic to learn on a by character basis since everyone has mostly universal tools.

Armor King: ā€œNothing complicated about me fucking dudes up with my chain grabs. Wouldn’t you agree?ā€

I’m at a mix
After playing my friend till 5 am today in sets
Tekken to me is very nuanced
If you know the system then yeah it’s not too complicated but that’s cause you know. Obviously there’s thing in every 3D fighter, gap in strings, when you can duck, step, and other things that are easy to grasp. They carry over to each game.
But the culmination of all the things you have to account for in neutral combined with the knowledge of characters and reading make it complicated.
Situational awareness.

Facing someone good in tekken is just different from a lot of fighters some maul but in this game you can tell who can space better. That’s a tenant that I value highly

I think you’re talking about people who are familiar with fighting games but you also have to think about brand new players who dont touch fighting games
Compared to a basic game like SF, tekkens learning curve is steep
Hell I have friends who are good at SF but have a tough time learning movement in Tekken
It might be easy now that you know it, but for casuals that never played fighting games before it is a very steep learning curve
