Yeah SC3 I tolerated because it had Zazalamel, Tira, and Setsuka. Other than that, I I didn’t really play it much. So yeah it sucked. SC4 was much worse.
I wonder if Namco will make another major system change in Tekken 7.

I hope they get rid of the Rage system. Rewarding people with extra damage for getting raped to low health annoys me.
Jesus, people can absolutely suck at SRK.
Why does any Tekken thread turn into TK vs SC, or vice versa?
I have not given up hope on Soul Calibur games. I did myself enjoy SCIV until the brokeness surfaced. I hope also for a SCV in the future, because if SCIII to SCIV is any indication, then SCV should be tournament worthy.
Anyway, getting back to Tekken. Since Ultras and cinematics are all the craze, I think it would be a fine thing to add to Tekken 7. Before you laugh, hear me out.
Rage is a fine element in the game for the one losing, nothing should be changed about it. Yet, I think to add to the tension of those last moments in a round. I think an addition like Soul Calibur BD’s Critical Finish. Each character should have an attack that turns into an Ultra of sorts if connected against a raged opponent. So, yes a scrub can land that magical raged combo to win, but they also have to take into account that if they miss they will be finished off in a cinematic way.
No, I do not think it should be a Mortal Kombat deal, especially since that sort of thing would be banned in Korea and Korea is home to arguably the best Tekken players. Tekken characters can be have so much more brutal Ultras than goofy Street Fighter without the blood and gore of MK.
Or… you could just try to win the old-fashioned way - by outplaying your opponent. Earn your wins fair and square.
The whole idea of gaining an advantage because you are losing is dumb.
I’m with you. I really like characters like Zaf, Xiao, Yoshi and Lei. They’re just so much more fun to play as (in my opinion). As long as they’re in Tekken 7, I’m happy. And hopefully Zafina gets an upgrade.
If they take anyone out take out, they should take out the characters that have “similar” counterparts. Like Christie and Eddie, or even Baek and Hwo <---- they are used differently, but not different enough to sacrifice losing other characters with an entirely different fighting style. But we’ll have to see what Namco does…
Namco adding Rage was a small price to pay for the amount of new players it brought. Good players can work around it a lot easier than SFIV Ultras. I agree with Rain from Korea in saying along the lines that a little bit of random mixed in a game is not a bad thing. Unlike the TTT days where you are better off giving the best player the money and going home. Having a Justin Wong and Daigo always winning is fine and all, but having different winners can be fun too.

Honestly, I’m sort of OK with “minor” comeback mechanics. Ultra feels like way too much damage for only losing 40% life, but rage is just 20-35% more damage when you have very, very low HP. I’m fine with this significant comeback mechanic because it often changes the psychology of the fighters during the match. I wish it was more like 10-20%, but whatever.
Though Rage will help out the weaker player, it will ensure that the match is always played as efficiently as possible (because neither player wants to slip up), so the matches are always entertaining to watch. It’s going to hurt the game either way. Take out rage, and have even less people playing Tekken (which means less supports for patches and things like that). Keep it in, and have disappointed competitive players with a game that is more likely supported…
edit : changed the last sentence I meant the exact opposite. lol.
Didn’t know scrubs liked the Rage mechanic so much…
Maybe they don’t like it??
In general casual players like things easier. They’ll get mad and complain if they lose. The more mechanics that close the skill gap, the less complaining… which means more people will play. Sad but true.
>_> If you play SF4, then you REALLY need STFU and GTFO with that comment. Rage PAILS in comparison to Ultra…Especially when you’re talking about Sagat or Ryu…at that moment you can’t even jump…
I don’t know, Rage didn’t felt that much in favor for scrubs because to take full advantage of Rage Mode, they have to learn how to do long juggles with some corner combos!
Scrubs are too lazy to learn those long juggles.
Maybe they’ll pick Paul and hope you don’t step deathfist. lol.
Maybe my message came off wrong. I don’t know for any matter if scrubs “actually” like Rage in particular, just mechanics similar to it (mechanics that close skill gaps).
I often wonder this myself. Lol.
But for the record:
Booing at Evo was actually mostly SC players showing their displeasure at the amount of Hilde players. And it was arguably more exciting because of it. Remember that no Hilde made it to the Grand Finals.
That’s fine; although you know from my posts in the past I don’t really have a beef with SCIII/IV because of Hilde but rather because of what they started to do the system and overall design, starting with II.
I don’t mind change at all, but when its inferior changes (and made for little reason than to attract casual players at expense of a perfectly good system)…I just can’t stand that. But yeah I need to stop, keep derailing this thread.
I can respect that. I just don’t like it when people call the game trash for no reason. To say it’s not to your taste is one thing. To call it trash is another.
I still dont get why people say rage is cheap considering you have to about 3 hits from death to use it
Not everybody is gonna be like that one Paul video
which wasnt even cheap I might add
What Paul video? You got the link?
