Tekken 4: Steve Fox thread

Is it just me, or isn’t the T4 top tier Paul, Jin, and Lee… with Steve coming in close after.

The problem with T4 is the lack of movement. They took out the old backdashes and left jabs with way too much priority… they no longer push you back. because of this, it has turned into a giant jabfest.

THE GAME in a nutshell is, Steve’s 1,2,1, and SS+1,2,1, Jin’s parries into 2,4 ff, d+4 or JF laser scraper, Lee’s 1,2,4;4, WS+1, 1,2,4:4, and ss+2~f,N,1,2,4:4, and Paul’s d+4:2:1+2 and ff+2:1. Naturally, this is ALL that happens, but it’s what you’re most likely to see in a match between good players… uninishable JF xyat.

Like the rest of the tekkenites, I wanna start playing SC2, but my local arcade is shit and doesn’t have it. the closest SC2 machine is 51 miles from my house, South, to the side of seattle opposite from me… a 45 min drive if there’s no traffic! >.<

If they make a Tekken 5… I think walls are alright, as long as you bring back the good movement and make blocked hits push the opponent back once again (so that you can’t just jab, jab, jab, low jab, jab…).

As for Steve…
1,2,1
SS+1,2,1
f+3,2, d/f+1,(2),1~b, 1,f+1, d+1
when ranged, 3+4,2… if hit on CH, d/f+1,(2),1~b, 1,f+1, d+1
CH d+1, 2, 1+2,2 (does half their life)
f+1 (as the single punch, it hits mid)
f+1:2 (mid hitting and combos)
IWS+1>2 (try to bait them).

Granted, Lee has good movement capabilities, 1,2,4 and ss+2, but Steve does so well against Jin (who simply is the best character in the game) that he deserves the 3rd spot. Paul is top tier simply because he has no real bad match-ups and has the best poking game. Lee does have bad match-ups once people realize that you can duck and punish quite a bit of his pressure game (most of his anti ducking moves, barring d/f+1, have punishable recovery on block). Besides forcing you to make a mistake, Lee really doesn’t have the best poking/mixup game. Anyways, Hwoarang and Julia own everyone for free.

totally safe string that starts from 8 frame jab. even though the last 1 hits high, if you try to do a ws move to retaliate it, steve has some kind of “safe block” feature that was discussed at TZ a while ago before it became a scrub board filled with “WHO THINKS JIN’S 2p COSTUME IS THE L33T35T!” posts and other mindless drivel

yeah its too bad tieytt moved on to SC2 as well (i think), and the Electric cancel tourney proved 2 things: koreans own us, and tiers are still there as jin comes through again

I used to like Steve. But to me he is nothing more than Eddy with punches. Craig owns all. Hope Namco makes Tekken 5 much better.

is the game still fun ?

im planing on buying it.

i mean, if we are just a bunch of friends fooling around (not experts) , will we have fun?

You’d probably have more fun than most Capcom games as newbs. You really don’t need to know THAT much about the Tekken system to enjoy it. That is pretty much the double edgedness (word?) of the T4 system: it may be TOO newb friendly. If you’ve enjoyed any of the other Tekken games you’ll most likely like T4. Plus, at scrub level, all characters are pretty equal (barring Steve and Christie).

On CH all three hits of the 1,2,1 are guaranteed.

After 1,2,1, can do ~b into flicker so Steve will be safe from retaliation, like if someone tries to do a WS move on you. Then can do flicker jabs (flicker 1,1,1… and go back into flicker by doing ~b) etc…

Can mix it up w/ various weaves and going into albatross spin as well.

If 3+4, 2 or 4,2 hits on CH can do 3,1~b,1,f+1.

d+1 is also a good poke, and if that hits on CH, you can totally fuck him up. CH d+1~b,2,d/b+2. Hella dmg for just three hits.

After any move that has considerable recovery, like if you block Jin’s cancan kicks or Law’s flip kick or something the sonic fang usually gets em which is d/f+1+2

And yes… 1,2,1 owns Jin, period. But yeesh, Korean guy still used Jin and owned everyone heh…

For me, the top three is Jin on top, then Nina and Steve…

Well I play Tekken but I would prefer TTT. I do play T4 and I think the game is some shit. The only reason why I play it is because of the “new” Jin and also Kazuya.

Koreans say Steve is top tier since Jin supposedly can’t touch Steve since Steve can hit Jin out of his RazorEdge combo…and I know the Koreans are phenomenal at Tekken!

Yes but both Japan and America agree Jin is top, even the people who made the game said Jin was meant to be the best in the game.

Drifting away from Steve for a sec…can anyone win with Craig? If I used him in a tournment, could I get far with him?

Alot of people are forgetting the power of Julia!

nah, i don’t think they do anymore. i mean everyone and their mom used steve before jin was time-releasead, and then afterwards, his popularity went down. steve relies a lot on evasive manuevers, but somehow (i don’t understand it myself since steve usually owns my jin) jin’s plethora of awesome mid hits aren’t that easy to dodge. 2,1, JFLS blablalba. you’d have to talk to someone who was good at (and actuallycared about) the game to figure it out

That would be inaccurate information. More like Jin, Nina, Steve, Lee, then Ling and Paul in loose order. Aside from the fact Jin and Paul own up the mid/low tier characters with little effort, Tekken 4’s balance isn’t too bad.

Actually Steve is considered Jin’s counter character.

Oh, Yojimbo is actually right about something (VF4 being a better made game than T4), even if it is for completly wrong reasons.

What’s up with all the Marduk fans

whats up with all the Marduk fans?

let me say one thing practically

he’s a Big guy who doesnt get put down with Jack-syndrome weaknesses, and I love to use him against Lei, he’s become my anti-Lei char. Lei go to the ground? no problem, a simple 4+lp fixes that

I know he may not be the char to use for expert level, but we dont got any experts around here, so its all good and fun.

he also has that kick-ass attitude aura hanging around him

and alas, there is also a trend with his name, where the fact he, along with Astaroth of Soul Calibur, are named after Mythological demons.

I think you are right on that one. I can’t count how many times someone played Jin and I out punched him with Steve. I think they were not good players, but it does not matter it the fact that Steve’s jabs are quicker. Steve is the shit:D

Hey, everyone is anti-Lei in this game :stuck_out_tongue: Marduk’s one of my favorite characters, it’s just suprised me that he seems to be getting a lot more fans than any other big character except Zangief and maybe Astaroth.

i think the whole pro-Craig movement came from TieyTTT’s victory at i think an electriccancel tourney way back when.

I don’t exactly know how to win with Craig, although I have seen the vids of tieTYT using Craig and beating tomhilfiger (the guy that got 2nd at EC4) while he used Paul. It was basically landing the TACKLE and tieTYT was actually able to get the finishing punch against him most of the time he actually landed the tackle as well, which was pretty impressive. Then for moves he used, he basically used d+1+2 a lot, and for the juggle, a simple 1, d+2,4. I personlly think 2, d+2,4 also hits and does a teeny bit more dmg though. He also used good amt of d+4 cuz it hits low and reaches pretty far for a low move, but watch out because if it gets blocked it’s pretty much a free WS move for anyone I think, but he actually connected with it MANY times. And of course, a good use of b+4 as well.

That’s pretty much all he did… tackle, d+1+2 with 1, d+2,4 juggle, d+4 and b+4. d/f+1 is also an okay juggle starter as well but not sure if it can connect as often.
