Very good link! I have seen slag coin before but never that page i used it for pcb diagrams a while back i think.
thanks!
The outside hinges destroy the whole design, try to hide those.
The Texture showing though from the particle board is not flattering to you and your work.
Key point in selling something is to make it look like “something expertly done” and not like something I feel I can do; by my self in my backyard in 2 minuets.
If you want to go with something adjustable for your stand you should try something sort of like this http://www.closetdoorproducts.com/index.php?main_page=popup_image&pID=317
so you can adjust the top panel where the stick sits instead of whole thing and the flat panel can sit on
The height would be adjust by removing two posts and placing them in a higher or lower cup
That was the first design except it was a cylinder inside that was surrounded by a casing that had notches, one you raised it you twisted the center and it lowered int a slot like your talking about, This center “core” as you raised it the top rested on it and it would raise with it, but this was not a very stable design.
I just got back from meeting with my neighbor, and we are going to work on a few different things, but first we are going to work on a seated non adjustable design that is a lot cleaner, and lighter weight, this new design should allow for good stability, but at the same time will be able to be shipped in pieces and assembled by the buyer relatively easy like “IKEA Furniture” . Working on modeling out some of the designs we were sketching out.
Here is a picture i took of the Core piece that is inside the stand labeled Die 1000 death on the site.

i ended up taking that cap off and drilling hole all the way through and hammered a piece of smaller pvc in then cut it off and filed it down. You reached through the hole in the top, into the bigger pvc, where you grabbed the smaller pvc then lift / twist till stop/ lift desired height / twist other way / let go
Why did you not go with a wooden beam half circle with flat top pvc is not the nicest materal to use for a stand
wooden beam would have been alot heavier, also the pvc was smoother for less friction and stronger.
This was also the first adjustable stand, the prototype if you will, the guts were way to complex, impossible to get that stand stable with out something else.
It was made for a friend, he just wedges an L bracket in and that locks it in place. After that we switched to the simpler Bolt in the side method that is a lot more stable. Then with the one screw in the front locks it in place 100%.
Thanks for the feedback.
I disagree with the weight issue and smoothness maybe the pvc stronger but that is not needed a light wood would give plenty of support it would also be easier to adjust how stable it is
The picture with pvc pipe does not look very precise which will cause any adjustable design wobbly are you free hand cutting? Do have make plans CAD or hand drawn with measurements or do you just wing it?
that one was a proto type to come up with the design, I started with nothing but an idea in my head. Also the PVC was hollow allowing me to put the handle inside, when you look at the topdown image, thats the pvc that you reached into to grab the handle and twist to adjust.
My problem is arching forward while my knee’s touch the wood there, I prefer it feel like it’s closer to my lap, Yes I mean predrilled holes like you have shown to, I guess ill have to eventually try one to see if i do hit my feet at all.
We are in Virginia if your ever around this way and want to try the stand out…
Cad or Hand drawn plans (drafting) are both good. Good by hand drafting are every bit as good as a computer generated.
Random out of you head isn’t very good at all. And it does not inspire confidence.
I used Maya to model out the first one before I started building it.
okay, that seems to be a bit better

There is an example of the concepts people get before I even start building, if it is something I have not already built and have the specs for.
What the center section for?
Is the model shown meant to fit the bottom of the TE? it looks really specific you may want to make sure its universal as possable
I think your taking a good direction good work
Center section is just for a plexi window with LEDS, this is a project I am working on for a prior customer, he saw the design of the DMG TEfightStand top and wants to upgrade.
Its also a buffer area so you dont have to rub elbows with the guy next to you.
My website also states that no dimension is set in stone anything can be adjusted, so if you have a hori stick those compartments would be made to fit that stick, The only way I have come up with to really make it “Universal” is to use some sort of maybe a foam insert into a larger hole. This customer has 2 pretty sweet MVC sticks he uses in the stand.
Thanks its partially due to everyone here and the great feedback I have been getting. It reinforced some stuff I had heard before but was shrugging it off. I had to step back and get out of the tunnel vision you sometimes get set in when working on projects like these.
