Tech Hit! Tournament Series on hiatus

Sounds like he’s coming out of retirement.

I will, but it won’t be the same. Seeing me play SFxT at TOS is gonna be like watching Jordan in a Wizards jersey.

Or Peyton Manning in a Broncos jersey.

I got another question, are we using gems? i hear that some tournaments have it now that players have to unequip gems .Also if gems are used , do we have the chance to cchange them before the match?

The discussion last night as to allow gems in this tournament hasn’t been finalized but I am 90% sold on banning gems entirely as of today.

I would really like to experiment with gems, because unlike majors and sponsored events, small tournaments like this gives us the chance to see what is tournament viable and what isn’t. I personally would like to allow gems for this tournament. However, setting up gems in a 2v2 setting will take up a lot of time. Even with a time limit of 60 sec. per person that sets back every match 4-5 min. not too mention buttons checks, etc. So it makes a 15 min 2/3 set into a 20+ min set. As a T.O. that is no bueno.

Now with that said, when the patch to save gem setting to a usb drive releases, I will allow gems. Except assist gems simply because in all competitive fighting game tournaments Auto block and easy input features are banned.

Now Steve has an infinite with speed gems, I have tried it out with my programmable Hori Command stick and it is extremely difficult to do and even programmed it only comes out <1/4 of the time. So I feel like a player should be rewarded for their execution rather than blindly punished. So that’s my logic behind them but only time and EXPERMINTATION will tell if gems are truly broken.

I agree with you on the gems situation, but on the subject of infinites, I feel we should borrow from MvC2’s corpse hitting and add some kind of limitation like only 2 reps or only until the corner. The Steve infinite I feel is an exception since it’s not a true infinite, and just a loop.

A future possibility for UMvC3 matches: No XFactor? I would like to see how effective this format becomes after Curly Mustache 3 on March 31, 2012.

Regarding the infinites in SFxT, 3 reps max of any infinite besides Steve’s loop.

Chris Matrix did a no X-Factor tournament recently, and the few vids I’ve seen of it make it look pretty good. Kind of limits the viability of SOME characters, but I doubt it would nullify anyone’s team. That, and I’ve seen some people drop the damage down to Lowest and it work out pretty well. Takes two or three combos instead of one or two. Sometimes.

I have updated the original post. SFxT 2v2 team tournament will be optional and the 1v1 will be standard. I have noticed the constant mixed signals of interest in a SFxT 2v2. Most people I have talked to haven’t been practicing with a partner and I don’t want people to be unprepared. So in that case I have created an ultimatum. If the numbers are high enough then we can have a standard tournament, however if the numbers are small then I will make it a free entry and the winning team will get a prize that can be split however the winning team decides.

Damn this tournament is going to get HYPE! I heard some good players are going to go to this event cant wait.

Aww, I was really looking forward to 2v2 myself, but whatever.

This is so hype, i might bring my asian wife!

^ funny you should do stand up.

i would, but i’ve never actually had airplane food

Just to clarify. I could care less what EVO is doing. My selfish reasons for having SFxT 2v2 is a wish and solely that. This game is the ONLY game to actually have a deep team mechanic more than any other and that is why I wish for the 2v2 standard. However, If I was truly selfish then all I would host is Tekken, KOF and SCV. I want to play and track these games the solid reality is that the probability of people coming out to play these games in Tacoma, and the surrounding areas, is slim to none.

The reality is that the majority will determine what games will be played and tracked. Which is why we are tracking the most popular games being played today in America. To minimize our scope I have observed that majority of players in our local scene hardly play or practice as a team. When all is said and done the participation will determine the staying power of each game that is hosted. All I can do is survey and provide options.

If we get 10 or more teams interested in 2v2 SFxT, on a consistent basis, the I will gladly change the standard but until then I am convinced that 2v2 will not be popular in the Northwest. I can only hope that I am proved wrong and can gladly add more games and options to the list.

Looking for volunteers to help set up and judge/referee matches and a head count on who is bringing monitors and/or systems and games.

I volunteer to help, want this tournament to run as fast and as smooth as possible so that everyone there has a good time there.

I really hope the Best Bout tournament in Portland the same day doesn’t fuck with our event.

I don’t think it would change much. Sakura-con is the same weekend and I doubt Portland would drive up for this event. Seattle would probably be the only ones that might be affected but they have so much stuff going on they rarely need to leave, but I hope they do

Tomorrow is the day. i cant wait to play
