Could I make one simple request? That me, in collaboration with other members, make a guide to basic team building.
Amaterasu is such a strong character both on point and for an assist that she will work with any team.
I personally make teams like this - Point/Support/Assist. The point character is the character that your Assist character should compliment the most (to your liking) and the Support character should be of great synergy with your Point character, or atleast be a little more diverse to play other team roles then your point (Magneto and Storm in MSP kind of). So in your case if you want to play Skrull, you would have to make a choice when the games comes out to leave Amaterasu as the Support to your Point character or as the Assist character. But I don’t think Zero would be good for your team if you want to play Skrull. He doesn’t have any good assists and Skrull and Zero play mostly the same. So your choice.
Was already discussed between me and some other members before, we said we would leave it for after launch, like the first 2 or 3 weeks. But I would help a pre-game guide just teaching the fundamentals on making a team.
Don’t bother, all that will do is put some people into a limited state of mind. The best method to make a good team is experimenting, if anything just talk about character teammate suggestions in the given character forum.
It won’t really help. It’s not even something you need a -guide- for. The concept behind proper team building can be summed up in a couple of sentences >.>
Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes Guide/Walkthrough - PS2, PlayStation 2 Walkthrough - IGN
IGN’s got a basic one.
Technically though asking if my random team can work is not the point of the thread. It’s more proving why you’re team is strong.
Reason I wantd to do so was because posts explaining the basics were ignored. I figured that a universal guide would get much more attentian. Some posts In this thread look like they can really use the help.
chun li/deadpool/dante looks pretty solid. chun li is straight up rush down. deadpools shooting assists will help her close in on the other player (upward shot, or the straightforward one). have dante with his anti air assist. as for chun li, her lighting kick assist, is perfect for dante and deadpool for starting a combo or continuing one. deadpool has great keep away. and dante, we know what he’s capable of already with all the videos we’ve seen… but we havent seen him be used to his full potentials with all that move he has. there are lots of dhc options with this team…
Deadpool doesnt have an assist that shoots straight forward
I think I’ve decided on Taskmaster (???)/Wesker (Samurai Edge)/Chun li (Lightning Legs)
I knew I wanted to use Taskmaster as the pointman, so that was a given. Obviously we don’t know his assists but I’m hoping he has something that helps Wesker more than anything else. I chose Wesker next because I wanted a low assist, because Taskmaster seems to be able to safely swing>air attacks, so that should give me some nice unblockables. Thirdly, I chose Chun for a few reasons. The first reason was that Taskmaster seemed to be lacking in mobility compared to some others, so I wanted a lock down assist to help advance, and to help Tasks’ nice pressure strings that he seemingly has. Secondly, the lock down can help set up teleport mix ups with Wesker, and if the legs hit, Wesker can easily teleport in and start a combo. Chun can also use her airdash with Weskers assist for unblockables as we’ve seen.
The last thing I had to decide on was the order. Originally, I was going to have Chun be the “support character” and have Wesker be the “assist character”, because I felt that if I had Chun as the assist I would be able to use her more often in conjunction with Wesker’s assist, but decided to have Wesker be the “support character” to my point man for DHCs. Chun doesn’t have any air hypers, and Tasky seems like he’s going to have his combos end in air string>Arrow hyper, which can easily DHC into Maximum Wesker.
Thoughts?
FYI: a guide for basic mvc2 team building was created after the first champion was crowned. So to create a premature guide is stupid because it’s not proven. Those with the right mind have it right by making it a couple weeks or a month after release, much less after evo. The basic team building guide was created by examining and analyzing the characters used, team duc. After that, more team hybrids came out: traps, rtsd, keep away, dhc punishing etc.
Csept that this was the first time symetry was introduced in a fighting game. We have a much better understaning of how team work works than we did back then.
More advanced guides won’t be introduced until months after release. Just telling a new player the importance of team symetry won’t hurt anyone. It would stop the mindset that you put a random team togetner and have a “pro” judge how good the team would work, and people would actually be thinking.
im thinking shehulk/ haggar/ and really good projectile character maybe akuma or modok
Where? Your living room? B5? We gotta wait until Evo to put down team basics? Contradicts your Jill based teams much eh?
well, all i have to say is that actually coming up with the teams is going to be one of the funnest parts of this game, so that having been said i actually agree with holding off on the team build analysis even though someone like me would benefit greatly in the beginning from one.
it would stunt my creativity and that of others as well. my creativity is nothing special, but the next guys might be. and failing in the process and then theory fighting up better teams/strategies will be so much fun.
plus we have these forums now so team building and what assists work with what character will be found and brought to the forefront very quickly. whether its by the people that find amusing solutions to problems or its by those that got beaten by them and come here to ask how to counter it… etc etc.
but if we go team building threads fuck it, im for that as well. whatever, i just wanna press some buttons.

I’m trying to be creative myself, I’m seriously likeing X-23’s gameplay. However I’m liking Zero and Spiderman’s as well, i don’t think having all 3 in one team synergies well. I like X-23 because i find her gameplay and look great and i like female point’s for some reason. Zero looks way great, and i just love the trash talking from Spiderman “you like that?!” “having fun yet?!”.
I’m thinking X-23/Dante/Sentinel(if sentinel is good, if not than Dormammu) i don’t know, what teams are good based on the 3 characters i’ve listed?
Thanks. skrull/ammy for point but now I need an assist.
I think people shouldn’t focus on just one character when trying to come up with good synergy, cause then when that character dies, your synergy is most likely crippled. It’s even worse when you pick one character just for the reason to support that character you’re focusing on cause then it turns into a Team Clockwork thing where if the point character OR the assist dies, ggpo.
Of course, that only applies if the character(s) can’t hold their own on their own, so pretty much disregard what I just said until months after the game’s release. But just to be sure, I’d try to go for a synergy where everybody supports everybody. I think trying to be creative with that will definitely pay off. If not, go for an MSP thing and have two solid characters that compliment each other and one assist that supports them nicely.
Just my opinion on how someone should approach making a team.
Well what if someone just likes a certain character?
Should they not use him because they may not contribute much to the cause?
Clockw0rk is a perfect example; should he not have built his team around Strider because of the the risk of losing the point character and being a a disadvantage since that’s who the team was built upon? Also in Clocks case both Sent & Doom. complimented Strider.
