Teams that are "looking" strong thus far..(strictly theory fighting)

@Anemone Hulk or Haggar(depending on how good he hurts)
most likely hulk

Dante/Jill/Shuma. Don’t rely heavily on the MvC2 strategies.

Dante/Storm/Trish

Instead rely on characters who we have no idea how they play?

You say that like it wasn’t true for every other fighting game before we got sneak peak stuff.

Training mode exists for a reason, and we have a vague idea as to how Jill will play already(hardcore pixie).

But theorycraft teams should at least have some basis in how the character will actually play, since for the character’s we’ve actually seen we can know what DHCs are safe, what their assists do, what kind of combo options they have etc. We have no idea what any of Jill’s moves are, if she has an airdash or not, what her assists are, anything. We know even less about Shuma Gorath.

This thread shouldn’t just be for “these are the characters I think are cool so I’m going to play them.” That would be pointless.

“Strictly Theory Fighting”

I’m thinking of rearranging my team choices a little. I’ve been planning around Captain America/She-Hulk/Spencer, but after reading that helpful MvC2 guide on IGN that JMCrofts put up (which I greatly appreciate), I’ve come to start reconsidering my team a bit.

This may be a bit of flawed assumption due to the fact that he doesn’t have a double-jump or an 8 way air-dash like, say, Ironman, but I want to think that Captain America is pretty rounded (not all rounded, mind you), at least enough to be on Point. Along with him on point, I have She-Hulk as a secondary “point” character which is why I want to bring in Ammy for some extra assist power. Not to mention that Ammy can hold her own in a fight with all of her different options.

Captain America can be on point with She-Hulk (using Clothesline assist - for the crumple and possibly give Cap enough time to do cartwheel shenanigans) and Ammy (using Cold Star assist - for more cartwheel shenanigans and a bit of lockdown from the assist) supporting him as he lays his combos down. I figure he can pretty much cover his own anti-airing options as he has Stars & Stripes, it’ll be rough to cover himself during certain moments, but I figured I’d work around it a bit.

With She-Hulk on point, I’d have Ammy with her Cold Star assist to “pin” the opponent down long enough to do some wall jump stuff or go in for the unblockable dash grab (Mmm) and do some combos from that. Because She-Hulk, too, has her “Flashkick”, I figured she could cover herself for anti-air also. Well… that and she has her anti-air grab. I’d use Captain America’s Shield Slash to kind of prolong her combos or to kind of “stun” the opponent with the back and forth hit enough to get a grab in or something (I haven’t thought that entirely through, but I have a rough gist of what I want… kinda). I figure that works out ok, at least.

On the addition of Amaterasu, I figured I’d just have to take the hit on the anti-airing option. I mean, she has the Cold Star attack that shoots upwards at an angle, but that’s dependant on which weapon I have equipped. But anyway, While she’s doing whatever, she has She-Hulk running out with the Clothesline for the crumple and Cap tossing the Shield Slash for some “two step” action coupled with her 8 way “air dash”, I figure she could probably get some good damage in there any way she likes.

Also, I really would like to do a Hyper Stars & Stripes > DHC > Ammy Mist Hyper > DHC (While they’re still in the air near the corner) > Taking out the Trash. I figure the “Mist” would put the person in a bit of slow-mo spinout after the Hyper Stars & Stripes, which would give She-Hulk enough time to get her BFI on.

What do you guys think?

Well I think you should use she-hulk with the AA assist, like you said you team generally lacks a good AA or get of me move and I think that assist will take care of both of those issues. Plus in comparison to the clotheline assist it just seems much better, although I don’t know too much about the clotheline assist so i could be mistaken. Other than that sounds like you really though this through, and it sounds pretty good theoretically, all 3 seem like they could hold their own on point plus ammy and she-hulk appear to have nice assists.

Dormammu/Doom/Modok

pretty obvious team but whatever

Tahldon, your team sounds pretty good but you need to think more about how you’re gonna use Amaterasu. Whether you’re gonna go for rushdown or zoning. Since she has different styles of play with her weapon switching. I think that fits well with Captain America, though, who can use Shield Slash well. Ammy is a great choice for an assist character, but don’t forget her use as a point character.

Most of the Dante players I see don’t abuse his range. I hate Dante but I’m glad he got released early so hopefully people got sick of him early. He’s good and I hate him as much as when Cable was first started as a point character.

@Yaah yahh b*tch

I swear no one read this.

Yeah that’s why I’m kinda refraining from forming a team atm. I’d rather wait for the game and see what works.

Looking forward to picking random characters and seeing them synchronize…a little. (Cuz you could usually do the same in TvC and if it goes well, you might be able to in MvC3 XD maybe if you get drunk beforehand)

Team symmetry isn’t as emphasized in TvC as it is in the Marvel Vs. games. That shit won’t work here, lol.

I’ll keep this close in mind. I’m actually in the process of doing more homework on Amaterasu, currently. I’ve watched all of the vids in the OP of her thread, but I know that I have a lot more analyzing to do. And she won’t hurt so much on her anti-air options. I forgot all about her paperslash, that should be just fine for a number of occasions.

Well, despite anything else, I’ll at least start with this team and coast for a while to see if I can understand how they will work together, but as a template, they seem to work alright together. But that’s only “on paper”, we’ll see how it works when I get other characters and their playstyles involved. But that’s more homework for another day, I suppose.

Thanks, guys, for looking over my team choice.

Hey guys from whats been seen so far, which characters out of these would go well with dante on point if you want to play 100% rushdown?
amatarasu
x-23
chun li
trish

^ Jill, but from your list: Amaterasu.

What is Dante’s weakness? He has low health and if noticed coming, a counter will happen. So what does he need, some move to cover his approach and some type of move to help in case the opponent gets an edge on you. Ammy’s ice beads will help him out with his approach and defense, so would go with her. Now you can choose one of the others. X-23 has the low assist which can set up unblockables, Trish has her traps to help with his defense as well and her projectile and Chunners has the pressure kick. Would go with X-23 due to her low assist would set up some unblockables and go with Jam session for him as an AA assist.
