Teams that are "looking" strong thus far..(strictly theory fighting)

You know what, i meant to say. They were played by the better players of the tournament. Marn, keits, Trophy and J wong used those chars, I bet they could make plenty of the cast look diff.

Hey guys, I’m a bit of a lurker, but I’ve been ruminating a lot on my team choices as of the late. I’ve seemed to have switched it back and forth a bunch of times. I thought that I wanted some “all around” gameplay, but that doesn’t really seem all that feasible with the characters that I want to put in a team together. I can’t particularly stand playing all Keepaway, nor can I handle the task of keeping constant pressure. I have a thing for mixing up between attacks and grapples (I’ve realized how fond I am of grabs lately), but I like for my team to have a bit of ‘extra’ mobility options too.

The team I’m pretty much going to try is: Captain America (Stars N’ Stripes assist) / Spencer (Straight shot grapple assist) / She-Hulk (Torpedo assist)

Cap’s going to be point (simply because I like him the most), but I figured that I could somewhat pressure the opponent by throwing out She-Hulk torpedo assist (does anyone know if the assist has the same OTG properties as the normal move when she does it as point character?) and using Cap’s cartwheel to stay in. A lot of people haven’t used the Spencer straight grapple assist, so I’m not sure how it works entirely, but I was thinking that I could throw that out too while Cap’s fighting to cartwheel behind the oppoent as Spencer’s pulling them in the other direction. At least in my mind it seems to work as some funky kind of mixup, but I may be wrong.

When Spencer’s on point, of course, there’s the Stars n’ Stripes assist from Cap to keep the opponent at bay so that he has time to grapple them and what-have-you with Shulkie doing the torpedo in the meantime to create some distance (in theory).

She-Hulk on point makes use of her own “Flashkick” and Cap’s assist while using her high mobility bodyslams and what-not. It’s somewhat gimmicky, but I feel like I could use Spencer’s Grapple to pull the opponent in and go for Shulkie’s rush grab where she runs in and knees the opponent into stun.

I’m aware that She-Hulk doesn’t really contribute at all to the THC, but I feel like I could work some things in with the DHCs. The more I read, though, the more concerned I get. Reading in the She-Hulk thread, I think it was being discussed that one can’t combo into her Anti-air “hug” Level 1. But if it could connect, I was thinking of trying Hyper Charging Star -> Hyper Bionic Arm -> She-Hug.

Eh… I know it’s an odd choice of characters, but what do you guys think?

I’m trying to work with the first two as well, although I want to experiment with Cap’s other assists.

She-hulk seems like a solid character, but I’m not sure the torpedo really supports Cap or Spencer very much.

As an assist? No. But she has at least 4 on point

None of those players even touched those girls in the tourney. The only one who did was Trophy Club, and he was generally unknown outside of Vegas. Sooo…

Judging from the recent CES videos, it looks like Zero/Viper/Dante and Trish/Storm/Chun will be pretty viable…at least early on.

Hm. Well, I was thinking about her “Clothesline” assist at one point too.

In the gameplay video of Haggar, she jumped out on the opponent, clotheslined them, and it seemed to reduce them to crumple state. You can see which part I’m talking about here @ the 2:06 mark. Would that be better, because the opponent seems to be in a vulnerable state up until they hit the ground? I was just kind of concerned as to how fast that would come out and whether or not it has a bit of blockstun (if that’s applicable here) on it to kind of pin the opponent down long enough for a cartwheel or grapple shot.

I want to try out X23/Chun Li/Ryu or Super Skrull or Dante basically some combo of those character prolly won’t have X23 on the same team as Chun since they are both rushdown which might leave me open in some other aspect

youre forgetting a very important thing:

HE CAN COMBO OFF A CONNECTED DIVEKICK AGAIN.

in very game where hes been a rushdown beast, hes been able to do that. now that he can do that again logan is looking VERY GOOD. dont sleep on him pls lol

^Also Drill Claw is safe on block, Wolvie can get IN THAT AYUSS…

Team MFI

Morrigan/Ironman/Felicia

Low assists > your defense

im thinkin this would be an great rushdown:

dante/phoenix/spider (maybe swap spider for someone else)

Indeed Wolverine is pressure not necessarily rushdown. he has those elements tho.

Lol, pressure is a part of rushdown. You’re thinking of mixup.

Phoenix, Dante ,Chun li…still need to see more phoenix action though since in a recent interview seth said something about her having bad assist…so hoping she builds meter fast since she takes damage horribly

People are sleeping on Spiderman. He’s commonly top tier in VS with the obvious exception of MVC2. With his MASSIVE buffs, he’s gonna be great on point. Web Swing is normal and super cancelable, better range on normals, Maximum Spider less whiff prone, unblockable Ultimate Web Throw set ups, Web Zip for instant rushdown and mix ups. All I need is to figure out a team for him.

I think spidey will be a great rushdown character. The thing I like the most about him though is the Ultimate Web Throw. Could be great against chicken blocking and guard breaking characters when they are forced in.

Rushdown teams are the hardest to determine since damn near anyone can be a potential rushdown character with the correct assists, leaving out the obvious exceptions. This will require extensive playtime to determine a team for Spidey.

I’m thinking covering web zip with doom rocks is gonna be trollsome.

down back > low assists.

word. Its overheads people cant block
