Team Seattle Documentry?

Before reading this post…Try to take it with a grain of salt, people may read it and think I’m on some LTB shit, but really, I’m just trying to better the scene (to an extent where it’s not overwhelming to others).

Ya know, I had a long discussion with Mandel regarding “team Seattle.” When we say team Seattle it’s not just Marvel…thats the POINT, is we’re breaking away from that, we’re trying to become Team Seattle as a community. I mean personally, I think that later on when I see who’s going to be serious into the community, I think it might be smart to deem a name for our community mainly because I think that it can get us somewhere. I mean, you look at Empire Arcadia, and they hold all these events and shit…I’m not saying that we should partake in that if we don’t have interest, but I look at the San Francisco Street Fighter Club…and they’re getting this SF4 console play thing…I just look at that and say to myself "Seattle won’t EVER be looked at to do events like this, because for one, we haven’t made to much of a staple in the scene, and two we don’t have a brand name like Arcadia does, or like “The San Francisco Street fighter club!”

Ya know, within the past year, what with Brent holding North West Majors, it’s clear that this scene has actual interest. It showed me that people are down to really play and try to do well. It kind of revived the “serious’ness” of our scene. People started getting out and practicing to do well for the first time in a long time. Oregon and BC came through! The fact that these guys came down here…TRAVELLED to us to play in this tournament. We’ve said that we want to be looked at more seriously as a scene…We want an Evo Qualifier…we want to prove to people we’re good…Well lets make it happen.

What it really gets down to is that I think it’s important to know, WHO is ready to play? How far are you willing to go right now as far as Evo goes or as far as getting “serious” into these new games? I understand that priorities are taken first, and that this is “just a game.” But right now if your going to Evo I see NO reason for someone to cop out and say that they aren’t practicing hard because it’s “just a game.” Ya know…basically, how serious is this scene right now? And if there’s a group of people who are willing to grind, then I think that we can put Seattle on the map with a vengeance, become better as players, create an actual “Team Seattle” brand name so that maybe we can get shit going, and just have a bigger and better scene at the end of it all.

I am going to go to Evo (unless some SERIOUS as health thing happens with me). I plan to be a heavy hitter in games. I plan to practice A LOT with the games I’m competing in. I want to represent Seattle, put it on the map…and when I say this I mean Seattle as a WHOLE. I hate that Seattle is now just “Row, Preppy, Jmar, Rat, and Beasley” it’s nothing against those guys at all, they represent HARD…But how can we get TEAM Seattle to represent.

This really can go as far as YOU make it. It’s up to you how good you want to get. So all I ask is…how far do you want to go as a scene Seattle?

I want to help out with this. Making a film about the scene has been talked about before and it would be bomb to actually go through with it.

I think a Seattle documentary is a tight idea! Even tho I’ve only gone to a few tourneys here, I can def tell how close knit everyone is. Plus, if everyone wants to be in the documentary so they can look back at the progression of skill, that’s one more reason for people to push themselves to get better. If it actually gets made, don’t forget to have a section for the awesome new guys in the scene!:nunchuck: haha. Also if anyone needs help with after effects stuff or any kind of art related stuff, I’m sure me or some of the other bellevue guys could do some of it. Since, that’s kinda what we do for a living.

For the record, I <3 Jimmy_The_Saint’s avatar… gooo Dhalsim!

Maybe next year I’ll finally make it to an EVO. This year it might happen during my wedding. =x That and I’m assuming there’ll be no T6 or BR there this year, which is the only game I’ve been able to practice seriously during my stint outside of the states.

However, if you want anything from a Seattlite who’s been out of the country for nearly 2 years but still misses the scene like hell, feel free to toss me in somewhere. Once I get home I’ll hopefully be playing MvC2 again, as well as BR and SFIV regularly.

I just want to say a little blurb since your singling out San Francisco. Now I know the Street Fighter Club also happened in New York or Brooklyn (I forget which city), but as for SF having those interesting Street Fighter events-that has more to do with the gaming industry rather than the fighting game scene. Both Gamespot and 1UP have their headquarters in SF. hint hint =]

If you guys can come up with an ill name for this and actualy start filming it (so that I don’t look like an ass), I can get something about it posted on the main page of SRK.

in all honesty i don’t really want to put it out there right now until it actually starts going. I was thinking of starting filming @ the Monday Night Fights before the release of SFIV. We still have a lot of things to discuss about this and I still need to find out who else is trying to get on board with this. I think what we need right now more than anything else is ppl that are down to be cameramen, I’ve heard a few ppl are interested in that but that’s probably the first important piece of business to take care of. I’m going to have to sit down and ask a few individuals about if they are down to have us film them as well.

If anyone is interested with filming or is interested in helping out in anyway send me a msg on AIM. That’s probably the best way to get a hold of me.

Well, so we dont lose precious moments. I believe , at least til we get things more organize, is that everyone with a camera…every MNF, big fathering, preppys tourney events, dinners…SOMEONE just bring their camera and start recording.

The least we can do is capture a lot of moments, so when we do find our super editing video making guy, we just hand him a bunch of our vids and we start making it official.

So no stress on getting everything organized and in order now. Lets just start recording and eventually things will fall in place and the right people will take charge.

For now lets get that Footage!!! Ill start bringing my camera everywhere and record everything from now on.

Cole

That’s what I said.

I’ve been recording footage for a while now, but I don’t know if Gina would be cool with using it for the documentary. =\

I meant to not have it mentioned on something like that until we were pretty much done with it. Also I’m not really shooting to have like a broad audience for it, it’s just something for us to look back on kinda like the EVO tapes. I mean if it turns out well and ppl really do like what we’ve created then maybe. But for now no I kinda want to just keep it within Seattle.

Man, no snide remarks needed! Let me get it to you man, we don’t want it posted in the front of SRK. This is for us…not for the others. We’re not trying to make a big production over this…this is for team Seattle…no advertising needed.

I’d be super happy if I was in the documentary for at least two minutes! lol. If not, it would still be fun to watch.

After we talked about it in the car, I had to look it up…fucking awesome.

I have a friend that wants to show the life of a street fighter on film. I think this would be a great idea. We should really consider this. Not saying I would place. :arazz:

So I started taking some footage from the mnf session this week, nothing major just some shots that’ll be used while some is talking over. Has anyone else been able to any kind of footage? I reall like cole’s idea of having everyone just take shots of whatever they can for now. Once the ball gets rolling we can focus on some other things.

In regards to those that want to be in on it. I’m definately not trying to exclude ppl from this, but I do have a few individuals in mind to have the documentary focus on as well as those that I’d like to have a little more camera time. Everyone that wants to be in itwill be in it just let me know what’s up.

Here’s a little update for everyone:

With SFIV fast approaching, there are talks of having one last hurrah Monday Night Fights prior to the release. I for one will be bringing my camera down to flim more footage of the game as well as getting people on camera talking about SFIV and their predicitons for how well they’ll do @ the first tournament @ Zach’s, as well as who they think should be on the 5v5 exhibition team for HDR. So if you want to get in on this come on down, or if you can’t make it film yourself damnit!

I know this thread has kinda died off, but best belive this documentary is live and kicking.

Also to those that had mentioned that they were down to help. Please get at me again, because I could definately use a little more help. Wether you want to be behind the camera or in front of it it doesn’t matter. All that I ask is those that are willing to help I really want you to be serious about this, because the last thing I need is for someone to say they’ll help then when I try to have them go and film something they flake out.

Also if ppl can bring their cameras on Feb. 20th to help film stuff that would be awesome. If there’s more than one set up for the SFIV tournament, there’s no way I can be in two different places at once. I have big plans for this first tournament. But the crucial part is just getting footage (game footage, player footage/reactions, crowd reaction, interviews etc.) Game footage is going to be taken care of on the big TV thanks to Zach. But I want to also film the other stuff mentioned so that way we’ll have more to work with come editing time.

Any help is appreciated.

I can bring my camera to Zach’s next gathering to do interviews, film player/crowd interaction and such while others cover the games.

If Mandel does the interviews, I think it would be pretty good, since he injects a lot of personality into the scene and is just charismatic in general. Or we could do the Evo style interviews, where we just get the player feedback and don’t hear the person behind the camera.

the later is what i’m going for. I’m shooting for conversations not interviews. What is crucial right now is just gathering stock footage for us to use when we do voice overs and what not.

I hadn’t even thought about voice overs. :looney:
