Yeah, i’m down for meeting up at zach’s and talking about this. Who has the gear to do it though?
He REALLY was perfection!
I went to that myspace page, and for a while I had a blank screen and then suddenly the background loaded and that was more than enough for me to close the page.
It was no mystery that wrestling was the right selection.
Been slightly digging through the Northwest’s past here on SRK (Hence the AV ;P). Bonus points if you can figure out who it is immediately.
I didn’t know we had a Youtube page- http://www.youtube.com/user/SeattleFightingGames
I am really really really tempted to find the Evo 2002/2003 tapes. While our scene wasn’t as big as it is today, we were definitely close knit. I don’t think I’ll be able to find the 2002 tape, but I think I have an idea of where the 2003 tape is. Overall though, I would say for comic value, the 2002 tape>>>>>>>>>>>>2003 tape by far.
I thought those tapes were lost?
I’m on the 2003 tape so that makes it tight
isn’t that beasly aka Zass?
Well, I got a camera, and so do hella other people. If everyone can just talk to people at arcades (what few we have) and ask people a set of decided questions. And then that would cover a q & a portion of the documentary. I know a bunch of nw guys have made the trip to evo and I’m assuming some video footage has been taken. Then there’s the evolution of play style. Example, pre ahvb cable, triangle jumps, roll cancelling and how those gimicks made or broke games. We can see that being in seattles scene, you were a forced to be reckoned with when traveling (I went to animeexpo and had 36 wins with strider/bh/sent. Dude said wtf strider with no doom? I said yup. He then asked me where I was from. I said seattle. He was like ohhhhh ok then left me alone,)
We need to ressurect our scene and prove that history can and will repeat itself and the northwest is not to be overlooked as washed up marvel players. This video may inspire us to grow and achieve greatness!
Yeah, from X-Mania.
For all intents and purposes, the 2002 tape is lost. I remember there being two copies of it, but I dunno where the hell they are now. I’m pretty sure I can find the 2003 tape.
I agree with everything here. I love the idea of interviews, we got a lot of entertaining personalities up here.
I think this needs to happen…I mean other then just interviews regarding our personalities up here, we could talk about the scene as a whole…about how we’re trying to represent hard…talk about our falls when hype was up (I’m looking at you ST scene…well everyone except Zass), and explain how we’re trying to rise above, but most importantly WHY it’s important to us. We can have scenes of hard core practicing over lapped with why it’s so important to us to practice…wether it be trying to represent Seattle, wether its to make a reputation for yourself…whatever it is, just talking about WHAT WE WANT AS A SCENE AND HOW WE ARE GOING TO GET IT.
I have this vision that this documentary could show like…the idea of preparing for evo and setting goals for ourselves…and showing how we’re going to reach those goals through practice and what not…at the same time, we can show how chill we are as a scene, and how tight knit we are as a scene, and how important it is to us that we have that closeness.
I mean the question “What does the Seattle fighting game scene mean to you?” is a VERY powerful question in which I think all dedicated players from Seattle should ask themselves.
For me…it means teaching and being taught. It’s the highlight of my week to go out on Monday night, play games, eat pho, and hang out. Fighting games are my main hobby…to me it’s the ultimate chess game. It means friends…Mandel once told me in the past “We met through street fighter, but we leave as friends.”
All in all, I think it’s very important to think about WHAT you want to make of this documentary…Because personally, I believe it can be BIG, inspiring, something to look back on and enjoy. Lets do this.
I KNOW I have met Cloudkap and talked to him, cus he told me about his snowboarding videos thing, but for the LIFE of me I can’t remember what he looks like…sorry man, if you see me again please introduce yourself to me again, I am horrible!
edit: I thought SeattleFightingGames on youtube was Keith.
I think if people are serious about this they need to start very soon. The only way it would be interesting at all imo is if it’s about the Seattle players and their “road to Evo.” Like imagine how tight it would have been if we had footage of the summer leading up to Evo 2k3, with all the shit talk and everything that went down, and then the crazy ass finish… wow, like Mandel said, it would have been tight. But you can never know when those tight moments are gonna happen, so it’s gonna be hard for someone to be around all the time filming when we’re kicking it.
Anyways, my point is, with all the new games, Evo is gonna be extra hype this year, much like 2k3. If we have a bunch of video from sessions and shit leading up to Evo, and then some of us do well at Evo, it would be a tight movie.
Is this about marvel, I think of “team seattle” as specific marvel players, or is this a Seattle-at-large type of idea? If so we need to corner Axel Kelly and get EXCLUSIVE interviews, I know I have about 10 questions I want him to answer, like why he never invites people over to play on his sweet as Marvel Cab, and why he plays Gilly.
What I was thinking of is since we have 2 new games (HDR and SFIV), I think those should be the main focus. Yeah Marvel would be mentioned along with TvC but with they hype around SFIV, and we have the 5v5 exhibition @ EVO with people fighting for spots I think those would be good focus points for this.
As far as getting this started I was thinking of having it start up the day before the release of SFIV, to me it seems like a great time to start, like @ MNF’s or something.
Also we need to find out who exactly is interested in being on this. What I was thinking is not only just having interviews and stuff about the fighting game scene in general, but also what is going on people’s lives outside of SF, obviously not too much on that, but just to dabble in on it.
So a short list of things we can have going:
-
The 5v5 team, predictions on who will make it what people are doing to get ready to fight for a spot etc.
-
NWM2, and the whole setup and process of getting everything ready. (This would pretty much be Brent’s section since he has a talent of actually getting things done in a timely manner =p)
-
Short Q &A’s with few people that explain like how they got into the scene, and what kept them there etc. etc. (I’m thinking for these they’ll be intros for people, so nothing over like 3 or 4 min. worth).
I guess the first things that need to be taken care of are:
When to get this started (I’m suggesting Feb. 16th, the night before SFIV comes out)
Who exactly is going to have some focus on this (as much as I would love to have every single person have their 15 min., that would end up being like a 10 hour long doc…so yeah)
equpiment (are we tryin to have this look real sharp? Or just use random digital camera? Or a bit of both???)
Alright, so who is actually going to evo?
It would be dope if the quality was hella sharp. It would also be dope to have various “highlights” from different tournaments we have and shit like that. Other than that, I like all of the ideas you have.
I can’t find a date for Evo 2k9. When is it? I really want to go. I have no illusions of repping any geographical location but I would really love the experience of attendance.
Plus I’ve never been to Vegas before.
They haven’t said anything about the Evo 2k9 dates yet. Haven’t really said anything about it that I know of, other than “no dreamcasts” and minor bits like that.
How’s marvel gonna be played then? Arcade boards?
Edit: just read that its up in the air? wtf
It is basically always in August
