Definitely for Team Portland, if anyone is willing to put up with how much improvement I need, I wouldn’t mind working with the better players in portland.
After yesterday at Versis I felt that my game improved a lot from where I was when I came in.
im in the same boat as kendrik(more or less) i havent lived in the NW for more then 2 years so im pretty new to the portland scene. but im as hyped on SF4 as anyone and am always looking to improve hopfully to a point where people will be happy that im in the scene/trying to rep PDX.
but that being said, compared to seattle we do not have alot of communications through the puclic threads here, does that mean the top players in portland arent communicating? no, but it does mean that theres not as much info readily available at the push of a button about how good some of the players in portland/OR are and whats going on in their community. i definitely push for a new thread that has commited mods and for more exposure on serious players practicing(like versis, that thread is great), tournaments, and players in general.
Edit: and im sure that the core portland scene(and maybe even the core NW) already knows all this info im saying should be exposed, but this isnt just for new people in OR its about reping the scene so that other states can come in here(or youtube or wherever addtional info gets put up) and see whats goin on. maybe give that extra push some players need in trying to decide weither to drive all the way here for a tournament.
Edit2: also a dedicated youtube account having video lists of portland/OR players could be useful, or just easily accessible links in the main thread. or even just post some and hype them up in the SF4 Gameplay Footage thread in the main forum(or whichever game it may be).
i know ive seen ray getting video of a couple tournaments since ive been here, im not sure if he uploads them or not though. but if your reading this Ray you should make your youtube account(or wherever you theoretically chose to upload) known so people are encouraged to check out your videos and updates.
at the very least i will attempt to get some good videos, and Pasqual said he has a good setup maybe he could cover that.
Mr. Ray, you tell me what work needs to be done, and if it’s in my abilities to do it (well enough), then just point me in the right direction. I wanna make things happen… I just know that being the “over-enthusiastic FNG” doesn’t go over well in many a cases, so I try to hang back.
But if there are real ways that I can help the community (no, tajiri, making out with you is not something I’d consider a "real help"0, then I wanna do it.
im not gonna be able to make to evo unfortunately, unplaned money problems(and failing to find a job dosent help). so i cant offer help recording that, but any other time if you cant find anyone, end up 1 man short, w/e i can offer some man power.
i’ve officially moved out guys. It was a pleasure meeting you all & thank you for the support for those that did. hopefully i’ll run into you guys online or at evo…
Well, after a surprise move by the school I was planning to attend here in Portland… a move known as them taking away a $3000 scholarship… I’m going to be transferring out to Florida after all.
Good luck, Team Portland Metro. I’m still here for a month, and I’ll try to make it to Versis between now and then, but my thanks for letting me act like a part of the local scene!
damn… well again i guess all i can say is best of luck in florida! it sucks to hear about that scholarship… but yeah it was fun gettin to know you a little and like SLCS said we still got online, so dont be a stranger.
Okay, as far as getting Portland organized for the FGC, some stuff I feel would be really helpful:

A universal Portland account for multiple user access. Name can be whatever, Team Portland Metro, Fight PDX, Portland Fight Club, etc. Usual business as long as it’s something that will be clear and eye-catching.

Recorders. Ray has the right idea and I am down for recording as well, although my actual camera isn’t top-tier or anything. Even the non-recording members of PDX should be getting youtube accounts though, for subscribing and staying involved in the video aspect of the community. We could possibly due a Youtube version of the universal account and have multiple uploaders directly putting local matches into a Team PDX Youtube channel which would mean only having to subscribe or check one channel for the less YT-active members of the community.

Everybody needs to get at each other on XBL/PSN, but there’s a thread already working towards that. And more in-person friendlies! Get atcha locals.

Some sort of monthlies or RanBats for SF/BB/T6/KOF/etc. Not necessarily huge cash-prize type things but a motivation for people to come out and compete even more than usual. Once the ball gets rolling, then you can get concerned with the possibility of real buy-ins and the like. I’d like to see PDX Power Rankings come out of this but I just like PRs so it’s no big either way
I’m more than willing to help set up things as far as any Team Portland SRK/YT accounts and helping upload matches and keep track of locals, and I’m in contact with a guy who’s interested in running tournaments and has the equipment and location to pull it off theoretically. It’s going to take a few people to really get everything rolling though and I’m still mad new here so having a more established player or two involved in this would be great.
Alright, so I’ll set those up tonight after work. Team Portland okay for the name?
Who would want to have access to the SRK account and who would be willing to upload local matches (and hell, even Championship Replays of local players I guess) to the Youtube?
id probably send Ray some PMs about what you have in mind. im pretty sure hes working on a new thread but he may have meant his Virtua Fight Club, so yeah id just check in with him to see what hes got planed and then start on those accounts or w/e.
Edit: also im down to help with videos i have a few local matches on my youtube account, and id be willing to get other players at versis(if they wanted me to) on video and upload them. im not using the BEST camera at the moment but its really not bad imo http://www.youtube.com/user/MetalxHealthx?feature=moby thats my youtube if you want to check the quality.
checked out your vids both gen and video quality look great. i think recording videos of our local fight scene is a great idea. youtube celebrity status here we come! lol
