Why can’t I download this game?!!

Steam download pauses at 77% and I can’t start it.

windows 7 x64, played with firewall and everything else I could have thought of. I’ve tried reinstalling 3 times.

Most likely a Steam issue. Wait a day or two the summer sale is hammering their servers.

You’re going to need more than the persian persuader if you want to be a demoknight. You’ll need the boots+persian+splendid shield. I still don’t understand why people would want to play melee demomen when the classic demoman with stickies can wreck entire teams, nullify ubers, and annihilate sentries+engies np.

And if you really want a nice melee class I noticed that pyro with the degreaser+attendant+powerjack set bonus are nice since they are faster, get health per kill, and can still reflect/push stuff away. Hard part is getting the hat though. I’m still partial with the degreaser+shotgun+axtinguisher combo.

I actually have the boots. Melee demoman us just so much fun though. I only play it on certain game modes though. Scottish resistance is still godlike for most maps

actually yeah, I have the shield and eyelander, and I really miss sticky bombs, and sticky jumping across entire maps :stuck_out_tongue:

anywho, I am gonna try to tidy up my place, then hop on to that server a little later in the day

Do you guys mind if I make a global class limit of 2 except for scouts and soldiers? Would that be too much? The way I was figuring it though with 10 people to a team there’s no need to have more than 2 of any given class.

Edit: Also on the demo thing. There is no load out more powerful than Demo with Pipe/Sticky/Bottle. Not a single class has a more versatile and deadly load out.

Demo knights are pretty decent if played correctly

Except Soldiers and Scouts…why not just make it across the board?

I don’t see the use for more than 2 scouts. Soldiers maybe because there are times when you need that extra firepower to push through a heavy defense line

I just never seem to have a problem with the spam from those classes. Every other class can get really obscene in one way or the other if you put out too many of them. But you’re right, it should just be across the board with 10 player teams.

Eh, the bonus is kind of negligible. Sure, 110% faster run speed is nice for maneuvering around enemies, but that 10% bullet vulnerability can really add up even from stray shotgun blasts and the like. I guess it’s a matter of preference. I don’t play a whole lot of Pyro, though; mostly just going off of what other Pyros say.

Axtinguisher is more useful when you have a Medic or two on your team (which you should). Powerjack can still be good for when Medics don’t want to/can’t accompany you on your ambushes though. Just puff n’ sting away.

And don’t underestimate the Flare Gun. When aimed well, it’s scary. Just look up videos of Don Newman playing Pyro; that guy is a beast with the Flares (and with Pyro in general). I’ve found that out the hard way, too.

As for Demos, what about the Caber over Bottle?

It makes for weaker spy battling when you really get desperate so I wouldn’t use it for serious play over the regular bottle or frying pan.

Edit: However if you’re using the sticky jumper you better be fucking using that caber.

yeah, it always shocks me when there are like 4 scouts on your team :frowning: Soldiers are useful for taking out turrets and defending areas around bridges, and on certain maps (like Gravel Pit) you can get to some interesting places, and take people out.

I still find that the rockets are WAY too fucking weak. You shouldn’t direct hit somebody several times then get wiped out with a fucking shotgun or flamethrower.

And yeah, flare gun is beast, especially after you set fire to somebody, and they flee in terror, and you hit em with flares until they drop from the crits

Also, how frequent is cheating in the games? I’ve played a few servers where some players had retardedly high kills, or stuff that seemed like auto aiming (one that stands out is a demoman that could hit anybody from anywhere with his grenade launcher, and they fired FAST).

Why settle for decent when you can be a powerhouse? :smiley: If I remember correctly in competitive TF2 events they always limit one demoman and one medic because of how crazy they can turn the tides of a match if there’s more than one good player using them.

The bonus is negligible…if you are comparing pyro to pyro. If you compare an axe demoknight to a pyro powerjacker, the speed difference is enormous. Sure the axe demoknight can charge, but it gets owned soooooo badly by people who don’t panic. Scout can kite all day, Heavy can still gun him down before the demo reaches him (unless ambushed but a normal demo could do the same), a pyro can airblast him and soldier or normal demo can juggle out of the charge. The only times I see the demoknights be effective is during arena matches where the ammo piles and confrontations are extremely tight. Other than that, I just see the good sticky demomen soloing the opposition.

I don’t really like the flare gun for a few reasons. One of the main reasons I use the shotguns is to deal with other pyros since backpedaling + shotgun > W+M1. Another is to deal with scouts who kite. Even if I were stupid crazy amazing at aiming with the flare gun…why play the pyro? If you could aim that effectively you might as well be playing a hunstman sniper or a direct hit soldier. I know they also released that manually detonating flare gun but from my experience pyros are meant for ambushing and close quarters, not watered down sniping.

I used to think that when I first played the soldier, but after playing some more you shouldn’t be using more than 2 rockets when you get your groove on. Rockets are really good since they deal on demand splash damage, do the same amount of damage regardless of distance you shoot them, and are good for taking out sentries as mentioned. I haven’t played him seriously for a while but I know people tend to shit their pants more when they see a kritzkrieg’d soldier as opposed to an uber heavy.

I use Direct Hit, although I am thinking of changing that since all it seems to do is set up bounces. The splash damage on it is atrocious. I need to get my hands on a better fucking rocket launcher, me thinks.

I haven’t seen a single medic with the IQ to kritzkrieg soldiers. I do it all the time when I use my medic, and I’ve been thanked and had good comments about my medic usage (ie- not leading the assault, or ONLY tending to heavy’s, regardless of their skill). Most of the time they just pair up with heavy’s and uber. Makes me a sad panda :frowning:

Direct Hit is a huge nono unless you are mad crazy accurate, and even then most people use the standard rocket launcher. You can try the liberty launcher since it’s faster than the normal rocket launcher and still has the splash, but it only has a 3 rocket clip.

I’m pretty sure the only weapons that doesn’t scale in damage over distance are…the flare gun and the sniper rifle. I could be wrong. But I know I’ve hit people from across the map with rockets and done 35-40 damage.
