Sniper is almost worthless in certain maps and really is lacking compared to the other classes. Demo is absolutely brutal, people underestimate the amount of carnage these guys can do. They are formidable on either offense or defense and can clear rooms in a hurry.
Personally, I don’t agree with “tiering” the characters. I think the game is pretty well balanced, and you can really do well with any character if you know how to play them. But that’s just my opinion.
I’m surprised some of you aren’t ranking the spy a bit higher. Rush Down said you won’t have many kills with a spy, but I semi-consistantly top the charts as a spy. Sure I get some points from sapping things, but all in all, most of my points come from kills. Kills are just too easy as a spy.
Like I said, there aren’t really tier charts for classes in this game since each class is pretty balanced and has its purpose. Sniper is undoubtedly the most worthless class in the game, and pyros aren’t good enough in general. Everyone else has a roll though.
If they add some bigger, more spaced-out maps with wide open areas, sniper value would increase. Most maps now are filled with rooms and corridors and whatnot and snipers really only sit in one or two areas on a map. That’s what sucks for them. I think they are fine as a class, they just need some bigger maps to shine on.
We need a snow themed group of maps. A Central American Jungle theme. An urban theme, so on. If they released map packs like this every couple of months it would really keep the replay of this game going. While fans can make maps, it probably won’t be Valve quality.
I’m trying to get a bunch of people together for that one TF2 achievement “With friends like these…” I have a few from SRK, but not enough just yet. Does anyone from this thread want to join us? Maybe we can make it a clan.
Thanks a lot guys, these give me a good idea on what to do, going to give it a shot tonight. BUT, I don’t think Spy is for me, unfortunately, as I found out today, oh well.
So, I freaking LOVE Demoman now, so much fun, did really well with him tonight. I did try to learn Engineer, since it seems like an awesome class to play, but I need some hints on how to play this class, and just some general rules as to where I should place sentries, teleports and dispensers.
Usually, I find a good spot near a control point that has some shelter to build a sentry, and a spot nearby (sometimes right next to it) to build a dispenser. Grab the metal from the dispenser and keep hitting your sentry with the wrench until its level 3. If you want to build fast, keep an eye out for an ammo respawn point close by so you can grab some quick metal while the dispenser is building. Drop a teleporter entrance near the team respawn point (may need to destroy it and replace it on granary if your team controls the third point, since the spawn point changes) and an exit in a somewhat hidden area near the next CP you’re trying to capture.
If a point gets locked and is two points away from the next CP, destroy your stuff and move on to the next CP.
This is my advice. I really hate when people try to defend locked points when there is almost no chance of anyone coming there.
