No pics–sorry, folks–but some of you Edmonton people may know me in-person. I used to work at the arcade in West Edmonton Mall; I was the guy wearing a coin pouch who spent half of his shift in front of 3S.
Thanks for the tips, though. For those who were wondering why I picked Street Fighter as the thing for her to learn, I didn’t. It was all her idea. I guess she understands that it’s one of my hobbies and wants to be a part of it. And I’m not completely useless at making food–I can barbecue. I just freeze when anything requires an oven or a stove.
You have someone who wants to get into the game(s) and you’re already thinking about bugging her with advanced concepts, too much information too fast will just make it frustrating. :looney:
Just tell her what are normal moves, jumping, blocking and such basic things, then let her experiment by herself for a while (she’ll quickly drift into using the longest pokes the character has). As she becomes comfortable with normals, show her how to do a fireball or something, and when she gets comfortable with special motions, tell her about basic 2-in-1’s.
Leave the zoning, mind games and stuff for later, when she can do all the above on cue.
man, am i hallucinating or are there no serpent posts itt? i didn’t read this thread so maybe they were just on a previous page, still finding this hard to believe
Yeah this is pretty much along the same lines as what I did.
But you know what else help now that I think about it, Scrubs.
Shes not going to beat you anytime soon especially if you taught her how to play and you know where shes weak, even once she gets better, and that is going to get frustrating for her.
What you want to do is get her to a decent just over beginner level once she can get moves out on purpose, with a few strats maybe a combo or two, and then find some button mashers and let her beat them senseless. (Be sure to mention to her that these people have been playing this game for over 10 years and that 95% of the SF players out there know less about how to play this game than she now does) For anyone who has never witnessed this, you need to.
At first button mashers will usually take it easy because shes a girl but once they lose more than once they either get mad or stop playing. I used too tell her you know the other person didn’t let you win if they’re pissed after the match is over.
Yeah I’m in almost the same situation! My girlfriend cooks and has played SF2 before she met me, but she’s not ever been very good at it. She wants to learn but only on a very casual basis. Since we’ll never be evenly matched it won’t be much fun playing together, so we play other stuff instead. When STHD comes out I’ll start teaching her.
