TE Joystick Mounting Screws?

I’m having a bit of a hard time finding the right screws for my TEs. I have two TEs that came without the joysticks, which also meant no mounting screws.

What are they? I remembered someone saying that they were 8-32 screws but they didn’t fit. I’m not quite sure if it’s the wrong threading or size.

Anyone know where I can get the right screws? Or what the exact details of the screws are?

I think you need metric screws. I am not quite sure but I think they are M-4.

Yeah, that’s weird… Who would tell you to get English unit screws for an international product?

I don’t think any of the screws on the Mad Catz TE’s or Hori HRAP’s are English/customary units. Everything’s measured in and cast in metric units from what I’ve seen.

Double-checking against some flush-screws I had lying around, and the TE joystick mounting screws are indeed M4! Look for M4 screws, ~8-12mm (8mm minimum length), 0.7 thread pitch, Philips head. Get screws much longer than that you’ll have to cut them down. Good chance Lowes and Home Depot will have them in-stock, otherwise try Ace Hardware or True Value Hardware. This is assuming you live in the US. Internationally, couldn’t tell you which store to go to.

It’s crummy someone sold you the case without the screws but typical for a bunch of sellers. They just want to make quick cash and could care less about the impression they make on other people or basic manners. People can also be pretty dumb about throwing away important case components. They could have at least told you which screws you need to get!

I kinda doubt they kept the screws for themselves…

These screws shouldn’t cost more than $1.20-$1.40 before tax… Gas cost is a different story!

Ah, thanks for that.

It wasn’t a huge loss, the 8 screws I bought were only $2 CAD in total. I just meant I was drinking the office tea instead of going for coffee.

I’ll give it a try and confirm the M4.

The M4’s should work…

The main top-loading screws (removable cap socket screws for the faceplate) are also M4’s. Really common screws for the tourney joysticks made by Hori and Mad Catz. A number of things on those joysticks are M4 diameter (cap sockets, lock washers on the mounting screws, and the mounting screws). The corresponding parts on the Hori HRAP’s are also M4’s.

I tested the mounting plate with screws on the one TE joystick case I have that’s waiting for a new brain… It’s going to be a multi-console joystick as soon as I can afford the parts and plexi with inscribed art.

Everything in my post should be fine because I tested and measured those screws myself.

The length of the screw is the length of the threading behind the head… the head is not counted into overall length according to what I’ve read online. 8mm should be fine; IF worst comes to worst and your screws are a bit long, you could also use M4 washers as spacers on top of the mounting plate for the joystick (NOT the faceplate’s welded mounting plate) to secure the joystick tightly. That would be only if the mounting screws were a little bit long or didn’t fit into the mounting area securely…
