Glad I just oredered a ready-modded console. 200 seemed like a good enough deal.
Yeah modded consoles are safe.
But yeah, don’t update. Just wait for the TP hack or an “update-able” custom firmware like the PSP.
I think for playing anything you’re not supposed to be playing, modded console is the best option. I’ve had my DC and pS2 modded since day 1, and very rarely have had any problems (Ps2 is always fine, DC has JUST started playing up after like, 9 years, had to replace it).
At this point I’ll probably wait it out and see what happens with regards to console releases and a possible yet highly unlikely American port before I either hack my Wii or get it modded. Sometimes these games get a one year exclusivity deal so that’s the maximum amount of time I’ll wait. Hopefully someone will upload the endings online somewhere or just tell us what happens… :wonder:
Eh, if your Wii is modded, especially with the recent chips, it’s “safe” right?
Didn’t I freaking call this. I just hope you don’t need the 3.4 FW to playTvC. And if so, I hope a custom 3.4 FW comes out soon!
/removes Wii from wireless network in case lady-friend tries to update it
Well, the update currently prevents you from installing a new version of the Homebrew Channel (at least until the HBC developers find another work-around again), but there isn’t any confirmation that it deletes or disable existing HBC installs (it does delete Twilight Hack saves, though). So if you’ve already done the Twilight Hack song-and-dance to get HBC on your Wii, there’s no need to worry for now.
I haven’t updated past 3.2. If you HBC’n it or you modded up there is no reason to update in the first place. Fuck the Shop Channel, I aint never bought shit off of it ever. And now I’m glad I didn’t update. 24 Hrs before the regulars kill this shit too and we back to normal. Bet It!!
**You don’t boot TvC on a USA wii through Wii’s firmware. You boot it through GeckoOS, circumventing the wii-firmware entirely. Thats the whole point of doing this homebrew hack… so you dont have any firmware stopping you from running imports or asking for ‘latest revisions’ etc. **

NO, it should be NINTENDO vs. SEGA.
**THE NEW FIRMWARE GETS RID OF ALL HOMEBREW ON YOUR WII. BY UPGRADING YOU’RE LOSING GeckoOS AND THE HOMEBREW CHANNEL. IF YOU NEED THE NEW FIRMWARE TO PLAY TvC WE’LL HAVE TO WAIT FOR A
CUSTOM FW. **
The thing is… nobody knows if you need 3.4 to play this yet.
Eh, someone has already countered that post so it’s forgetable.
I still laugh at people assuming that it’s catered for them, no the Japanese.
Can you read? TvC cannot ask for the new firmware if you boot it through menu-loader or geckoOS. You are fine with what you have if you do not upgrade your firmware to 3.4 You can boot any game you want. Thats the WHOLE POINT of doing this. To get around Nintendo’s region and firmware-version lockouts.
Again, it is impossible to need the new firmware to play TvC. Just load the disc, as you were going to anyway because its an import, through Gecko or MenuLoader.
^And even if you accidentally updated your Wii, installed HBC won’t be deleted.
And you dont need the latest firmware to play USA region games either, just to be more specific for the logic impaired. Just boot games like Animal Crossing through GeckoOS or Menuloader as you would if they were an import. PRESTO.
Is there a way to “install” Gecko OS in your Wii? My Wii doesn’t really have its personal SD card.
As far as I know, the answer is no. Homebrew Channel only reads apps from an SD card. The good news is you can get a 1g SD card for around 5-6 dollars.
Yeah I know. I will be getting one soon. I also need it to keep VC channels since the fucking Wii can’t save so many with it’s goddamn 512mb HDD.
I have it installed and can access it from the channel list without my sd card in. I don’t know how much we are allowed to talk about, but the package that I got with the necessary files had it setup like that.
