Tatsunoko vs. Capcom for the US

Well, it’s not just a US release. It’s EU release as well.

I know.I’m just saying, here…I don’t think it will do so well. It’s not like there are tons of recognizeable anime characters in it.The only characters most gamers might recognise is Ken and Jun but probably wouldn’t be able to call them by name if they saw them. They’d be like “Remeber those bird people from that cartoon that used to come in back in the day…G-Force or what or G-Squad,whatever it was called? This is them on the cover!”

Question is if they need to be recognizable to be successful. With that logic, no new IPs could ever succeed. I think people who don’t know them will just treat them kinda like new original characters, and that will be fine.

But we’ll see.

With the right amount of marketing, hype and actual attention to improving the gameplay experience compared to the original JP version, there wouldn’t be too much worries. It’d help if Tatsunoko used this opportunity to expand it’s franchises in the West; though it’s doing so now with the Gatchaman CG movie - though the game itself is the step in the right direction for that as well.

I thought it was already apparent that Capcom doesn’t know what it’s doing from the FIRST releases of SF4 and TvC.

However, in a rare moment of optimism, I would say it’s very good that they’re trying to dramatically improve, fix, and tailor the game for an American audience. It’s amazing that the US will not only get the game, and it NOT be a lazy/sloppy port, but improved in every way.

Personally though, the sloppy controls prevented me from enjoying TvC much more than the balance issues, so I hope they’ll address those.

I think when you’re making a gimmick game like this. The characters do need to be recognizable for this to be successful.Capcom is major league. You put them in this battle against characters nobody knows…that has to be discouraging to some people.Especially with the existance of MVC.Alot of people I know don’t know about liscensing and things like that. They don’t Capcom can’t just use Marvel’s characters when they want. They’ll be like…“I’ve been waiting for MVC3 all these years and they make this shit?” Who are these characters anyway…i’m not buying this!"

I don’t know I may be completely wrong about this but I just see it like this.I honestly hope this does well because when Capcom flops on a fighter…well you know what happens.

That’s everywhere on Earth BTW.

And there is such a thing as being open-minded to a fault. (e.g., Asian cultures and their various supernatural beliefs).

Dr. B doesn’t make wishes at shrines expecting they’ll come true.

It’s not that different from making wishes in a church…
Or when throwing money into a fountain.

Still, did the mainstream audience really know SNK when they made CvS2? That sold decently, right? I have no idea.
And they released MvC in Japan right?

I’m not sure how CVS sold.I guess if Capcom ported it to all those consoles…it must have done decent numbers.
Also…Japan knows our superheroes more than we know theirs.Alot of people watch anime here nowadays but I bet I couldn’t get half of them to name Tatsunoko’s roster.

Actually, the only Marvel heroes prominent in Japan prior to the movies are X-men and Spiderman. Generally it’s a DC hero they’re more familiar with.

SUPAIDAMAN! Damn it Capcom, make me a Toei vs. Capcom game already!

They should have just made Namco X Capcom a fighter.Tekken vs. SF (overload)

Tatsunoko is the most famous anime company in Japan, they’ve been making series for 30 years. So they’re more than well known over there. Gatchaman etc. are heroes to kids of all ages.

I wanna see Studio Ghibli vs Capcom.

Totoro vs Tron Bonne
Nausicaa vs Saki
Howl vs Jeda
Chihiro vs Roll

la la la

This. The game was originally planned for a Japan release only, hence the use of Tatsunoko. We should be thankful that this game is being released out Japan at all, and especially since they’re updating it.

And some of the new characters might be chosen to be more recognizable. Like Speed Racer. Or… Soul Taker? That one is pretty new and therefore more known to the anime crowd, I guess.

Let’s hope so.Most of the characters in the game are from Anime’s that came out before I was born.Samurai Pizza Cats,Casshan,Soul Taker,Karas. That’s all from my era.

Yes. Which is AWESOME. :bgrin: SPACE LANCE!

Honestly, gameplay aside there are sooo many cool storyline moments that would be lost in a fighting game, because fighters (especially vs. games) tend to gloss over these things. The boat in Ken’s SF2 stage being the same boat for the Resident Evil gun game? BRILLIANT! Dig Dug being a Digger from the Mega Man Legends World? BRILLIANT! NXC is filled with tons of things like that.

I wish vs. fighters would try to make connections like that and figure out how to blend things together, but they don’t. I would kill for say, an explanation to how Casshan could exist at the same time as Mega Man Legends (not that it would be true, it would be exclusive just to this game) but eh… They tend to think ‘Character first, how it makes sense later and/or we don’t care.’

NXC was almost the opposite as they went out of their way to craft a universe where Namco and Capcom characters can co-exist. A universe which also continues in Super Robot Wars Endless Frontier (available in ENGLISH for the DS everyone go play it ROFL), possibly Cross Edge and possibly the upcoming Trinity Universe. So for me it’s all good how things worked out.

SCREW STORYLINE IT’S A FIGHTER!

Except NxC sucked balls.

For me it was storyline > gameplay and that made up for it’s shortcomings. They had a lot of smart story ideas for SF too. My basic point is with a fighting game (especially a crossover) you lose that. I know most people don’t really care, so that’s just me.

This aside I really don’t want to see Tekken vs. SF for the same reason I never wanted to see MK vs. SF. The gameplay styles (and the games themselves) are too different. I don’t mind guest stars from any of the companies showing up in fighters (especially since Soul Calibur is crossover crazy), just not full on crossovers. I don’t want to play Tekken in 2D or SF in ‘full’ 3D. Ultimately I think this is the problem with a Namco vs. Capcom fighter.
