Taskmaster Matchup and Team building thread

As a person who uses Taskmaster regulalry with Shuma and Hsien Ko I wanted to testify that Shuma is a good match for Taskmaster in keep away games and mid game rushdown.

Shumas Mystic Ray covers a 45 degree angle from ground to straight up on his position so he naturally makes for a good early anti air.

When paired with Taskmaster, it strengthens his keep away, really well, just call Shuma between verticle and horizontal Arrow shots and it will stop your opponent tryin to jump in. A great tactic againts rushdown characters from long distance who have no means to punish from full screen.

As a bonus for rushdown Taskmaster players, Shuma’s Mytic Ray assist can help Taskmaster OTG an opponent from an air combo ending in S. Just call Shuma and immediatly do j.verticle arrows and it pops them up for a Launcher and another air combo from there you can do what you need.

Shuma has his weaknesses though, without good assist himself he has a terrible time rushing down opponents and his only strong game is in the corner with mix ups. He does crap damage and his combos take a lot of work to make effective. He’s definantly not straight forward which I feel is what makes Shuma actually weaker than he should be. Some dumb special move design concepts too but I won’t get into that. He can be better with maybe another month of testing and developing to me he feels unfinished but I love his assist for Taskmaster.

Team seems strong, assuming Taskmaster is your point, Chris and Task can make it difficult for people to rush in on them and Haggar of course protects the Mayor Skys (hehe see what I did there?).

The thing about Haggar is that he needs assist that stops opponents in their place while he approaches, if you use Arrows and guns your only pushing them away and not holding them in place long enough. Assist that locks them down giving Haggar a chance to catch up like Doom Rockets or Sentinel Drones is what you need, people respect Haggars pipe way too much and they will avoid it as much as possible and pick you off from afar. If Taskmaster is your point however, things change because he is very mobile and Lariet makes for a great get off me assist. here are some simple Snapback options for your team:

Taskmaster Point: c.L, c.M~Chris B, H, f.dash, L,M,H,b.H,S j.L, j.L, j.M, j.M, Mighty Swing, j.M, j.M, S Haggar-a, j.Arrows H, Snapback (Note: Does about 500K Damage, enough to kill a Pheonix and very easy to do )

Chris Point: c.L, c.M, H, f.H,S j.M, j.M, j.H, Magnum, S f.M~Haggar A, Land Mine, f.H, Snapback
(Note: Does about 500K Damage, the F.H at the end makes the mine blow up and OTG)

Haggar Point: This is the best I could come up with for this team, because you have no OTG assist, I can’t extend the combo in a way to do more damage, maybe the Haggar forums has something better.
J.H, c.L, c.M, Violent Axe M, L, M, S, j.M, j.M, j.H, d.H, M, Snapback
(Note: Does less than 500K but it’s damage and is an easy snapback while building meter at least)

Also you should pick a Tasky assist that works for you, cover areas of the screen you have a hard time protecting. I use Verticle to advance on the ground while they try to escape high in the air which is necessary because a typical stratagy is for people to turtle and s.J to the far end of the screen, with Tasky’s verticle arrow assist, you can prevent them from doing so keeping them tapped in the corner so you can get close with Haggar.

Im not an expert but based on my experience this is what I can conclude. Good luck.

ive ben experimenting with task and people whos assist make him better im find spefically to help with his MAIN weaknesses which are getting in and zoning help both STORM and SENTINAL help both

Storm-Storms whirlwind assist beats out most beams and all fireballs and guns, i havent test arthurs lancer and armor specials but im sure they are the only thing that beats her other then Doom and Thors H beams havent tested those yet either. Also with Storms whirlwind it offers a pretty good amount of pushback keepin the oppenent pinned longer. Storm also helps Tasky in corner combos when u are trying to relaunch combo, you can otg regular jump and call storm do his h arrows to otg storm will hit and task will land allowing foll-up combos and if that was bad enough storm can OTG and hit ANYWHERE on the screen from dhc so that means when u hyper combo into LEGION ARROWS storm will hit no matter where and what angle the oppenent is

Sentinal- a lil different in that his assist drones takes a lot longer to come out which will prevent followups on corner combos and his drones dont have push back but they do have a lil bit of stun. One of the short comings with storm is her whirlwind pushes away making it harder to stay on somebody unless there cornered Sentinal is more specialized for Tasky to rush with simply call drones throw a vertical arrow and rush dat shit down. Another useful tidbit is sent drones can be used for cross up mix-ups since there is spacing between the drones. Simply call sent jump mighty swing and the opponent will be force to guard the opposite direction time this well and you have free combos on oppenents for big damage

Gonna do some more experimenting with assist for task hope this helps and sorry if this is mentioned already.

Why is it always Storm, Sentinel or magneto that help teams out the most in terms of assists.FUCK THOSE CHARACTERS SON.

I use Taskmaster on point but I’m not very happy with the rest of my team. I use Hulk and Sentinel as my assists but I’m not as good with either character. Any tips on good assist chars for Task. Keep in mind I’ve been playing the game for less than a week so I prefer using simpler characters. Really, any advice is appreciated.

My team is :
TASKMASTER (horizontal)
AMATERASU (Cold star)
DR DOOM ( hiddenMissile)

New team:

Magneto, Task, Akuma

works hella good together, can dhc glitch from mag to task, task can use both assists in combos for potential double relaunch combos for 900+

magneto makes good use of both akuma and task assist, mainly akuma

akuma + task assist is really nice, teleport + alpha task assist

i dont kno i dont even use those charecters but the game designers decided to make those assist god like and VERY dual purpose i mean c’mon they help with BOTH rushdown and zoning and they have guard stun properties as added benefit there gonna be broken after a while imo

ZERO (hangeki) - Tested out his assist and honestly its not really all that useful in general. The main uses i found for it were for winning zoning wars in which taskmasters arrows handle most projectiles in the game, added chip damage and crossups but the hangeki stun doesnt last long enough to do a whole lot. This was all tested using the clones assist. There are better assist to get the job done. If you have zero on your team then use it if you need to zone but outside of that its not really useful.

Arthur will be my next test subject hope these help help

The reason those assists seem to always be “the best” is because everyone knows what they do and can understand how it’s applied. Almost every character in this game has some manner of strong assist, if you look for it and how it can help your team. Experiment away.

^Oh I have been.I’ve stuck with my same team from day one and I’ve out alot of things with them.

I just think its funny when people are like oh, ‘choose these characters because they have good assists and DHC glitch is easy to set up’. I mean you should be picking the characters you want to play, not just choosing characters because they automatically create synergy. Some people’s playstyle might not suit them having Storm or Sent on their team.

Hey guys. I’m playing Task/Tron/Phx right now. I’m having a rough time dealing with Magneto, specifically disruptor and TK disruptor with a solid projectile assist behind it. When I get close enough to apply pressure I just take a Magnetic Shockwave and I’m back to the otherside of the screen again, on block or hit. Jump M arrows only hit Mags sometimes from fullish screen and TK Disruptor beats that. Ground L arrows beat disruptor but its so fast that I have to anticipate them or I eat it. Shield skills xx L arrows seems like an ok option but I’m afraid to eat a shockwave or grav squeeze. Pile that onto his extreme mobility and I really feel like it’s an up hill battle. Need some help.

You can’t play scared against magneto. He’s a bit like Taskmaster, really. He becomes really good with the right assist, so you gotta work around those. You play task/tron yourself, so you know how that works. Straight up rush down is never gonna get you, and you plug all the holes in your offense with that flame.

If he has gravity squeeze, chances are, you’re gonna eat it, unless you kill him first. If he lands it, too bad; good thing you have 1.1M and can take it.

It’s definitely not an easy matchup, because magneto does to Taskmaster what Taskmaster does to basically everyone, except he doesn’t have the life advantage. Your team also sacrifices some on-point power to have the Dark Phoenix factor, so you gotta keep that in mind. If you can deal significant damage early on, good. If you can’t, you can still take down their whole team with a single character, so it’d be really broken if you weren’t at a disadvantage early on.

Thanks Shonuff. Ill give that order a whirl as well. Thanks.

On one of my teams I’ve been running Taskmaster on point and Akuma as my third but have been trying to find a suitable character for the second spot.

I’ve been trying out Storm because I think she DHC’s nicely with Task and Akuma but I’m not really comfortable with her yet.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I saw a video with someone playing a really REALLY sick zoning trap with Taskmaster and Hidden Missiles assist. I dunno how old the vid was, or if this trap is common knowledge or what, but as a die-hard Spiral player in MvC2, I got extremely excited when I saw it and designed a team around it immediately. The guy in the vid played Task Ammy Doom, but my take on the idea has been Zero Task Doom and I am fucking LOVING IT! I’d never used Task in my life until yesterday evening and already I feel like he’s one of my best characters lol

I was just wondering if anyone here plays or knows anything about the Taskmaster+missiles trap (the guy’s name was something like HonzoGonzo). It was pure genius and I really would like to discuss it with someone who knows its ins and outs. If not in this thread, via PM or AIM or whatever. I’ve only been using it for a day now, so while I have figured some stuff out, it’s probably not worthy to post in here quite yet. But after I’ve got some experience under my belt, I’d be happy to come back and post some of my findings. Thanks!

I settled on on a team getting rid of Modok and Sentinel for Dormammu and Taskmaster. I think Taskmaster can serve the role of Sent Drones to help Hulk get inside but will also be more versatile and not get pinned down as easily. Same with Dormammu who isn’t quite as character specific combo intensive as Modok but still has lots of options. Just wanted to make myself overall more versatile.

Hulk aa | Taskmaster straight shots | Dormammu hole

Now I’m just debating on which character to put in which spot. Any suggestions? So far I’ve been running the above order I like TAC from Hulk into Taskmaster for an extended air combo with super if I so choose as Taskmaster is my only character with an aerial hyper.

I know a bit about the team mechanics, if you have any ?'s post them in this thread

HonzoGonzo!! I’ve been playing Task Doom forever now ever since I saw 2 vids of you, and fuckin LOVE it. I’ve been trying to break it down quite thoroughly, and I think people might get mad if I posted up everything I’ve written on it (me and Dime X are emailing back and forth trying to figure it out).

Funny thing is Ive tried multiple points but ended up going with Ammy, just because Im very familiar with her. So I accidentally ended up at your exact team, except I put Ammy 1st.

So any mechanics I’d ask about are more generalities like what the specific goals are, what are the specific sequences you like, etc. I almost want to email you all the shit I’ve written and have you tell me where I’m right and where I’m wrong LOL I’ve figured out a LOT of shit for this trap. I played SPiral in MvC2 and when I saw this trap I was like “welcome home.” But yeah, great to see you on here!

My team consists of of Hsien Ko as my point with pendulum assist, Akuma as my second with tatsu assist, and Taskmaster as my third with straight forward arrows, each one compliments the other.

This team works great together, my friends really hate me because of it. Hsien ko is used to put some damage in the beginning and activate her golden armor. She is really good at covering taskmaster and akuma’s rush game and help out taskmaster with zoning. Great team to force people into a corner and pressure them with hsien ko assist and a barrage of arrows or tatsus. Also Akuma’s assist works great with taskmaster DHC combo.

So really my team is used as hsien for her godly assist, akuma for damage and combos, and taskmaster for his amount of options and mix-up game.

I would suggest switching task to 2nd, since his combo ability is greatly increased with tatsu assist, and you can dhc to kill most chars (if you know how to do the otg legion arrow into diagional super)
