Yep, I’m in the same situation. The team is super solid and kills off any touch for the most part, but it’s not “broken” in the sense of what’s needed to win at the top levels I suppose. Although I maintain that Task with tatsu pressure is basically unstoppable if you do smart calls and continue the rushdown pressure (don’t let Vergil and Morrigan get space essentially). I’ve been thinking about trying to learn Vergil as well, but for whatever reason he just feels awkward to me. I would probably put him second for the DHC into swords for a similar ToD like Spencer. I think Akuma might be a decent partner for Vergil if you don’t try to use him solely for teleport mixups and random confirms, but instead to pressure and try to chip out with round trip and swords, etc. But yeah I’ve been thinking about trying this, I’d just need someone to sit down and show me all the Vergil stuff because I’m that type of learner.
I would say the best choices in the Task/X/Akuma shell for X in my experience would be:
Spencer
Dormammu
Storm (if I could do her TAC combos, I’d use her… amazing DHC for Task especially since it OTGs)
Doom
Those are the ones I think have potential. Now I’m also looking at Deadpool and Strange a bit. Deadpool’s low assist is pretty good with mighty swing for some really hard to block stuff, he’s a good DHC, and I believe he benefits from the get-off-me tatsu assist. Strange is a good DHC and provides a lot of lock down which is essentially what Task really likes. The problem is I don’t think he’s really that great with Akuma, at least in terms of DHCs.
sigh Ah well, the quest continues. I’ll probably just stick with Task/Spencer/Akuma unless there is ever a patch crosses fingers
I’m trying Vergil as second. It looks decent enough, since Task can confirm a forward throw into combo DHC Spiral Swords and so for a 900k~1M damage with +0.5 meter gain at least.
I guess I would have to use Vergil XF2 like an anchor. And any teleporter+Akuma is always good.
Ive played a lot of Tatsu-Task in the past and love it, with a lot of the squads mentioned above, and am considering going back to it. I HAVE been using Wesker Vergil Task lately, but my regular opponents are getting sick of Vergil, which is fine with me, because I really only used him so heavily to demonstrate to THEM how dumb THEIR Vergils are. Mission accomplished. Anyway, reason I mention this…
I’ve grown to really enjoy Wesker with Task Arrows. And Wesker, too, greatly enjoys a Tatsu. And while I definitely advocate in most cases 2 assists for Tasky, I’m thinking of running Wesk Task Akuma, though with the idea that when a DHC or whatever brings Task in, I’m in no hurry to swap him back out.
Gunshot isn’t Task’s most amazing assist by any stretch, but it does offer extensions and the occasional ninja unblockable when they don’t expect one. So even though the standard model for this shell tends to be Task xxx Akuma (Wolvie point being the major exception), I figured I’d submit to ya’ll that in the quest to find great Tatsu-Task teams, more xxx Task Akuma could be potentially strong. Even though Task w/ 2 assists just feels… oh so right… I’ve been running anchor/solo Task for weeks now, to the point where I’m like, damn… giving Task an assist is a bit overkill, isn’t it? (totally not literally, but you get what I mean)
So Im gonna give Wesk Task Akuma a shot. And if it fails… so be it, there definitely is no lack of other fun cheap Task teams.
Now I’m trying Vergil, but with Rising Sun assist. It feels awkward but the nice thing is: you can combo off a forward throw with this assist (throw, otg, rising sun, charged vertical arrows, shield)
Then I can use tatsu for my neutral game. It also covers something I was missing: comboing a throw after a blocked tatsu.
About differences with Rapid Slash, it does a bit less damage and you can’t call rapid slash, sj.swing xx arrows for a mixup
Using Hulk as an example is pretty bad since that is literally about the only matchup where you can’t mash shield skills plus tatsu. Even still, you can try canceling shield into normal counter if they try to smash you.
I agree that using cr.M is good but there are very very few things that beat out shield skills when covered with a good lockdown assist. If they like to push buttons they will eat it. I feel like I should learn Vergil in second spot instead of Spencer since I mainly need a tod dhc that also benefits from tatsu, but Vergil just hasnt clicked with me yet… but I feel really worse off whenever I play Task without tatsu or playing him anywhere but point. Can’t drop the demon.
Yeah I was looking at Skrull second for unblockable stuff, wish his assist worked better for simple extensions. Any Skrulls know tricks with tatsu? Tasks unblockable setup seems very timing restrictive and tight but maybe worth exploring more.
I just picked up Akuma to help out Taskmaster and maintaining pressure and holy crap… it feels like I’ve taken off the training weights. This is too good. I have one question though:
Are you able to do the relaunch BnB or the new BnB with Task after an Akuma hit confirm?
Also this other question is directed at you @Riot55
What’s the song you used in that Taskmaster/Spencer/Akuma video you posted? Shit is mad groovy yo!
I find the tatsu assist causes too much hitstun deterioration to do any extended swing combos or anything, but please prove me wrong. I have generally had to keep it simple as you saw in my video above. The music by the way is called Echo Blue by Graphiqs Goove. I don’t think that song is on this album, but I can’t find that album online anywhere. Here’s a link to one of his though on a free archive: http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Graphiqs_Groove/ Most of his stuff is jazzy house music.
I don’t know if swing > arrows > shield / launch really works off of a shield skills + tatsu assist confirm, they seem to recover before I can really do much. Explore it though! That’s why I have a good assist to extend afterwards and that does enough damage to ToD off any confirm.
Also, you can do a slightly watered down version of the Swing BnB, but I’m trying to stabilize the combo so it works anywhere on the screen and grants the most bang for the buck.
