Tallahassee Thread: "I'd MIGHTY SMASH that!"

yea i dont mind big sessions i have more than enough room as long as we get like a second setup or something. other wise its just gonna be a handful of people on one setup. 2 of which will be adonis and I

Anyone know if theyll update mission mode with the patch? or will we have to hit up dustloop pmode?

I would hope they will at least have missions for Platinum X-D, but I donā€™t really know. I can bring a 360 and a copy of the game, but I donā€™t have a lag-free monitor or even a monitor small enough to really bring across town.

I have a 32" monitor as well as my asus. ill just need another system for the tv.

Well then I can bring another setup. Send me a PM with your address and I will come by Wednesday through Friday after work, unless Brink turns out to be even way better than I am hoping it is <_<;;.

Oh shit, when does that come out?

EDIT: Has anyone played Aion? Is the experience different enough from a WoW-style game? This update thatā€™s coming looks pretty sweet, thinking of giving it a shot until Tera comes out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKZr2Gw3chI&feature=player_embedded

Brink comes out tonight at midnight.

Aion is a decent game, especially since the lowered the grind required significantly. Itā€™s still a very Korean game, though, so it features a lot of arcane and nebulous items and crafting systems and stats that are never really explained all that well.

The PvP in it was pretty good, aside from the standard Korean MMO problem of being in large part about who had more potions, but it seems to have pretty much died off for one reason or another. PvE is good but it doesnā€™t really offer gameplay hooks, it just uses the standard MMO dungeon grind and makes it harder and harder. You donā€™t get any crazy bosses like the Wizard of Oz boss in WoW. All the fights are essentially tank and spank, from what I recall. It looks gorgeous and you have a lot of customization over your character both visually and mechanically, but it doesnā€™t do a whole lot to differentiate itself. I enjoyed my time with Aion, but I wouldnā€™t describe it as a unique experience. If you like Lineage, RO, or any other Korean MMOs, youā€™ll be fine with Aion.

CEO Barfights event on the 23rd of this month. Gonna try to go. If anyones interested (probably not), shoot me a text.

Itā€™s in Orlando, yeah? Any word on what games will be at it? Iā€™d probably be down for going. Have to see if I can get off work, but yeah, if I can I should be in.

couldve swore you said that ish was in June. how many days you plan on staying?

If itā€™s a day trip Iā€™m definitely down. Too bad it isnā€™t the following weekend, Iā€™d be in Orlando for FAE anyhow.

There was a time in my life where I really enjoyed both Ragnarok Online and Lineage, but then I found more skill-based RPGā€™s and it was terribly hard to go back. Guess Iā€™m waiting for Tera.

Everyone in town tried that Aion shit when it came out. I want to say that im pretty certain that Logan and I had the highest levels in the beta iirc. been so long ago. anyway i heard the made it not so grind intensive but during beta man after like the first 20 or so levels that shit is grind city. I remember i sat down for lik 10 hours. The day started with the bar at the top ended with the same bar at the end lmao.

@Chris: Not unless they have Koryu lol.

After school Iā€™m going to put in some time for real Kano combos so get ready, Andy!

ā€œWills Pub Barfights on Monday May 23rdā€

the Real CEO is still June 10th. As a heads up.

Think ill shoot for the June 10th one.

Matt: I did say June. As you so studiously mentioned, this is a separate event - one of their smaller ones, which I personally prefer right now.

Kev: it would be a day trip, but none of the games you like are there: last Super tournament and MvC3, so while Iā€™d like you to go (for the experience and saves me a bit of trouble), I donā€™t foresee it happening.

Jarv: -shrug-

Ah thats right you did mention that. my b. Smaller tournies can be fun and also way less exhausting. Still love the big ones. though

-shrug- canā€™t knock it. Its not even that. The experience of a major is overrated to me, but thatā€™s simply a personal bias (not a fan of big gatherings, as we can tell from my affinity for 1v1s).

well on the same token. our ā€˜big gatheringsā€™ dont have like 40 + setups that majors do. Plus the 20-30 setups from peoples rooms in the hotel. Unlike the bigger gatherings here you can ALWAYS find 1v1s at majors At least i can mainly because of all the different games i can play proficiently and the people i have befriended from different cities. Like im sure if you wanted to during final round you wouldve had no problem getting into jebaileys room to get way better comp then the randoms that were playing casuals. I remember for last years FR XIII Jebailey thursday night had all the top players in there me and adonis went up there was fun as hell.

I also feel alot better doing good @ Majors and placing well then at the small tournaments.

@Chris: I was (mostly) just kidding. I donā€™t really plan on hitting up any out of town tournaments until I start going not-0-and-2 in the ones in town. Plus Koryu broke as shit but gotdamn itā€™s fun. I think you could have some fun with it.

When you get back in town can we sit down for some 1v1 MK? Iā€™d like to see what youā€™ve learned about it and how you play.

I hear some ZAXBYā€™S is going to be at stake in this weeks FTTZTT!

yeaaaa zaxbys

Pros of playing at large tournaments/gatherings:

-Lots of people to play which means many different playstyles.
-Great way to test your skills in both patience and stress management for a tourney.
-Good way to gauge your skill level against good players.
-Game diversity.

Cons:

-Lots of people can throw some folks off.
-May not be a Zaxbyā€™s nearby.
-???
