Uhhh…says who? To my knowledge (which is correct), this is not the first time a low has been an anti air (a sub par one, at that). They aren’t universal, or all that common, but the concept of using a slide (or other lows) to make jump attacks whiff and force landing on a hella meaty move is in pretty much every game, starting with Street Fighter II.
Because Cable definitely never low shorts a falling Storm.
I’ve been trying to get that through andys head for a while now when he openly complains about a “low working as an anti air”. It’s not like universally there, but there are quite a few other games, even ones that Andy has played Like crazy, where lows work quite well as anti airs. Like you just mentioned cable catching storm with a crouching low as she lands with a fierce! Come on dude that’s called a magonagel! (sorry can’t spell Harry potter names!) that’s what you get 50% of your wins against me in marvel 2 with!
I’m fine with a slide/low being an anti-air. It’s common as fuck, but usually they don’t allow you to kill a character off of a trip. Ryu c.Roundhouse in ST, Dee-Jay slide, Bison slide, Guy slide, etc. Anti-airs that are lows = fine. Brain dead anti-air slides that punish what should be normal rushdown and give you a million years to hitconfirm to launch (and therefore death if you’re not terrible)? Not really as okay with me.
No actually Cable gets Merc’ed for low shorting Storm on the way down. Who confused you there? If you are refering to dashing under and hitting them from the other side(Magonagaling) thats a whole nother story.
The things you all are listing punish early jump ins which isn’t even what I’m talking about. I’m talking about coming in with a jump in and losing flat out to slide. Yeah if your hit animation in the air is over a Ryu d.hk will antiair you but not if your balls deep in that fool. Thats horseshit. Make excuses all you want.
Mike, your argument is flat out retarded. Anti airs lead to death, there’s nothing new there. Whether it’s a slide, a berserker slash, Sent super armor, or anything else is irrelevant. (and if you want a “brain dead” anti air that leads to death, look no further than Wesker’s 2B…best move in the game)
In fact, to expand upon the above point…the whole argument is retarded. An anti air is an anti air, whether it’s a low, a slide, a shoryuken, whatever. Somebody jumps, you press the button (or do the motion).
I still think (read: know because I play the character) you guys are grossly overestimating the move’s use as an anti air. This is an argument I have with James all the time. Just because something CAN work doesn’t mean it ALWAYS works, people on the receiving end just seem to think it always works because they only see it work, and don’t see the myriad of times it gets beat…because every hit someone gets they wanna think the other person was just mashing something retarded.
Just watch for me playing other Magnetos in this town (Mike J., Logan) and call out a slide anti air. I GUARANTEE you will not see them at all, or I’ll be able to tell you exactly why it happened - and that reason won’t be “because it just has a better hitbox,” vs. any reasonable jumpins.
James is apparently sick tonight so…even though I can go out tonight, looks like I won’t be. No big loss, get to finish Portal 2!
after all that talk i sprained my groin and was forced to stay at home and ice my nethers.
wow everyone is upset over mags slide anti airing when weskers 2b does the same thing with really no risk what so ever and its more reliable in way more situations. Doesnt matter cause if you dont like boss ass low anti airs being mad at weskers 2b in general is a much stronger argument than mags 2c.
Im so sick of everyone in my house being hurt sick or whatever.
Sorry I fell asleep on accident at like 12:30 last night lol. Was dead tired and just sat down “for a second” on my bed. Opened my eyes and it was 3 am haha
I wish people would stop saying “stop complaining”. If the move is dumb, IT’S FUCKING DUMB, no matter how many ways there may be to beat it.
Ultras/Supers/Ex DPs beat shoto c.mk, but that doesn’t keep it from being stupid or people complaining about it does it? STOP TELLING PEOPLE WHAT TO DO HOLY SHIT
i’m mainly referring to the part where he mentions that it is scrubby to discredit the other players skill or victory solely because you think what they used to win is cheap, or is too good, etc. He even says thats the mentality he USED to have and how he thinks its not a good way to be, rather you should accept that you lost and figure out how to beat that “cheap” tactic.
Even though it may seem like it, I’m really not using this to call Andy out specifically, or his complaint on magnetos slide, or whatever. I mean what it comes down to is he isn’t having fun with the game, thats his decision I’m not trying to convince him to play it or change his opinion of the game. If its not fun don’t play!
I’m not saying you can’t complain about a move being really good or whatever, I even hear obvious top players talking about a certain move or a certain character even in some scenarios being too good, but they do it in a different way. They don’t say, the only reason I lost was cuz this guy used this cheap move over and over.
But all this crap aside, i’m really just saying the interview with clockwork is pretty tight and you should listen to it! that’s all! He says a lot of things i totally agree with about the game, about how to not have a scrub mentality and how to get better!
And thanks for that well worded sentence Ron, much more succinct. Complaints about dumb moves are not the same as dumb complaints about moves.
