Edit: Also, Drew and I have been working on upgrading the stream setup to HDMI. 4-way HDMI splitter should be in by tomorrow, and I’m planning to order the upgraded HDMI capture card by week’s end. Does anybody have spare HDMI cables they can donate to the stream setup? We will need 3 additional cords on top of what I already have, and the shorter the better (longer cords produce lag, from what I’ve read).
Once we have all these pieces, we should have a completely boss setup with no delay between gaming/computer processing, meaning no more “commentate from the Tv, not the computer” issues. I also got a couple more webcams to throw into the mix, that wont autofocus every 5 seconds.

I just had an HDMI cable crap out on me (after like 3 years of use) and my other one is a 12ft Monster Cable. I got my one that just died (wow I am not a great salesman) from monoprice and it did hold up for like 3 years. So if you need a couple cheapies I’d say go mono.

Edit: got the hdmi splitter today! Working it out now, trying to figure out how to make this commentary happen with the new tech stuff. Also trying to see if I can make Ps3 work.
So far there is Magneto, MODOK, Dante, Nova, and of course Trish. I’m pretty sure Zero, Doom, and Thor have one as well. Definitely not a fan.

I was wondering if the PC version of AE requires you to be on the internet to access the rest of the characters or not? I was considering putting the game on my flash USB drive for portable AE 
So you have to log into the server to get your characters each time?
^I believe so yes. I have the Games for windows version though so i’m not 100% sure.
Guess what I learned today guys?!? I got into the business of streaming about 3 months too early. Turns out, all the research I did about capture devices + the best compatability is all null now because there are " software patches" and “bug fixes” and “better equipment on the market that does everything the old equipment couldn’t do” now. For example, the best choice for capture cards USED to be the Happauge Collossus, but now XSplit decided that it sucks because they both encode at H.264, meaning it’s encoding twice which causes the delay you guys have all seen at the tourney. Didn’t used to be as bad, until XSplit starting “Fixing” their program to encode properly, so now Colossus is basically the worst cap card instead of the best for live streamers.
Hopefully we should be in business once I get this new cap card, the AVerMedia Game Broadcaster HD. It’s “XSplit Recommended”, and everyone who reviews it says it kicks ass, plus it captures in 1080p (which is the first on the market to do so - everything in the past has been capped at 1080i). It also supposedly caps in realtime in XSplit so no shitty delay problems for commentators. The HDMI splitter I got also processes in 1080p and is powered through a DC wall unit, so we should have no lag problems at all. I’m gonna use my ASUS monitor as the gameplay screen, and grab one of my slightly older monitors for the stream PC. We should also be able to use another HDMI output for the projector at Gamescape - I went by there today to check it out and the screen is huge (Drew’s pic on FB didn’t really do it justice) - people walking in the food court are gonna be able to see it for sure. I might even hook up the projector to a screen output from the PC, so that people can see some stream graphics and Salty Cam action.
One question is what to do with the fourth HDMI output… it’s not really needed but if you guys can think of a cool use for it, I’m all ears. One idea would be to set up the Stream machine as a head-to-head style, with two ASUS monitors back-to-back. The players would see the same thing at the same time, but would be facing each other directly. It’d be easy to mount salty cams on each monitor for maximum hype. Eh, maybe that setup would be kinda gimmicky.
Sorry, I’m being a windbag about stream stuff, hope you guys find it interesting.
EDIT (as if it wasn’t already long enough): Also, after many hours of searching, I found out how to stream the PS3 using HDMI, once the setup is complete - just gotta get a special converter box to take out the HDCP signal.

The only difference in the Steam version is that Steam is basically a launcher for the AE shortcut, that’s about it.
