Just played through the FF13-2 demo, I think it’s ok. I’d personally rather have 3 actual PEOPLE on my team though. I WANT MY FANG BACK!!!
Now Kingdoms of Amalur looks tight. It’s like Bayonetta, God of War, and Dragonage had a really hot 3some and spit this out. I played the demo for almost 2 hours and still didn’t finish it. There goes my life.
At least 13-2 LOOKS really slick. Nice aesthetics but. . . well I’ve already made my point here.
Man, my friend’s sister works for Big Huge Games; this friend of mine has been hyping up Amalur for a while now. And it really looks fantastic. I’m gonna download the demo on steam and see how it runs but it’s got an all-star cast behind it. R.A. Salvatore of the DemonWars/Forgotten Realms books behind the plot, Todd McFarlane on the art, and Ken Rolston (lead designer of Morrowind/Oblivion) driving the gameplay. That is a motherfucking RPG powerhouse. Glad you like it!
Also I’m down for the Hangin-Wit’-Adonis trip as well; I heard about all sorts of shenanigans last time that I missed out on!
Final round prep is starting today. I’m going to do my damndest to get games with someone every day before final round. I’m not fucking around anymore. I’m going to make it out of pools win if it kills me.
Fang is a stupid character! At first I was disgusted with the monster party member, but the amount of customization you get out of it even in the demo won me over really quick.
Checking in with Amazon now… I’ll let you know what I find.
EDIT: Beautiful, it turns out that the merchant I bought it from didn’t actually have it, so they waited until the last possible day to ship it (i.e. today) to tell me. Canceled my order, refunded my money, gave me some Amazon credit to boot. What kind of 360 PCB works best? I might just try and find a Pelican or MadCatz or whoever makes the Gamestop brand wired 360 controllers.
@Mike J, HIt me up for KoF or Marvel, Ill be down.
NOt going to final round, actually probably not going to tournaments for a very long time =(. (This includes CEO and Evo, this year too)
I start the new job on Friday, and I’m very excited. IM going to be using this time that I have to be an extended training mode session. Play as many people as I can locally and iron out my games in SF, MvC3, and KoF so that when I can start traveling again, Ill be a worthy contender. That being said, I will still be doing local tournaments, I’m going to talk to gamescape about possibly doing them Friday nights over nights, if not. Ill still do them on saturdays, its just someone will have to close out the event for me.
Jarvis: what Adam said. That’s actually comparable to what you might find online, unless you get lucky and get one for a good price.
Almost any MadCatz 360 pad will do. The version is irrelevant. Btw, I’d prefer if you brought me both sticks before hand so I can get the tedious parts out of the way (signal wires, ground chains, layout etc). Pad hacking is actually the simple part that I can finish in an hour or so.
GMike: hey bud as you probably already know, your stick as at Adams. Did you need PS2 support? If not, then its all finished up, minus hooking up the Neutrik (which wouldn’t be needed). If so, I’d need to order a new chip for the PCB I’ve got in there and hook up the Neutrik. Its easy so it wouldn’t take long. An hour ish tops.
Got the pad + my sticks with Drew as I’m sure he’ll get a chance to see you soon (HINT HINT DREW). Copped a standard MadCatz wired 360 gamestop pad with the pointy case. Hopefully Drew will be a real nice guy and bring those over soon. I can always walk over and pick it up + give you your cashola.
On occasion I may want to play some Marvel or KoF but when Jan 31 rolls around I’m going to be all about some Soulcalibur 5. I’ll be down to play a lot too!
These videos confirm what I always thought about Marvel hitboxes. Wonky stuff like assist characters getting hit while they’re behind a character isn’t really related to the hitboxes of moves being too broken or crazy, but moreso because hurtboxes are gigantic and become even larger when in hitstun (which they pretty much have to be otherwise combos become much more difficult). Of course there is still some really dumb stuff like foot dive and Nemesis’ j.H, but most of it is pretty reasonable looking. It’s ridiculous that the console version didn’t ship with the replay/hitbox feature.
Yeah, they’re somewhat ridiculous. I’m curious as to why Capcom/Dimps/Eighting (whoever developed the engine) decided to use circular hitboxes instead of rectangular ones. I imagine it’s MUCH faster to do a character’s moveset/hurtboxes with circles, but they leave huge amounts of superfluous hurtboxes sticking out.
Played the Kingdoms of Amalur demo. Seriously, it looks like they took everything from every major RPG over the past decade and smashed it into one game. Except they still have fucking quick-time events. Look, that shit was not fun in Shenmue, God of War, Heavenly Sword, Die Hard Arcade, or anywhere. EVER. Let this gameplay ‘technique’ die, please.
