Tales of the Traveler: Ryu Video Thread

Cool man, I sent a friend request. I do have a question, your Ryu uses hadoken for his assist, I am assuming Ryu’s hurricane assist is not as good as Akuma’s?

Also sorry if I said I dont like ur Chun Li, it just annoys me that your Ryu and Akuma have to work much harder to win which you seem to do. I would love to see you use Dnate or someone like that, at leat you can get 3 supers in a row from Ryu, Akuma and Dante

Chun-Li is better than Ryu, so its easier to get in with her. Not to mention she’s my point, so she starts with 2 assist.
Chun-Li’s assist is really valuable for me, so if she dies, it becomes harder to do a lot of things with Ryu.

And I wouldn’t play Dante. I just don’t sympathize with him.

Yes

Done

Im sharing this video where I almost did a comeback with Ryu =(

Even though I couldnt make it, I think I did well with him =)

HOLY SHIT!
That combo on Tron was amazing!
It’s good to have something new from you, man!

thanks as alawys man… Funny the tron combo was actually suppose to be bigger but I kept fucking it up. So then I was like ill just do something smaller, only to get it my second try. lol blah…

I agree with Brian.

Thanks for putting up more videos, it’s helps us realize there is still more stuff to work on with ryu/etc. If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t have thought Ryu was capable of such crazy stuff.

thanks dude

Hey, folks. This is just me messing around in training mode over the weekend with my team. Ammy is probably the main focus but I did do a couple of Ryu combos. Nothing fancy here. Let me know what y’all think.

Ok I’ve been player ryu since vanilla . I feel like I’ve pretty much mastered him, even came up with some of my own tech. But the one thing I still can’t get down is the air hyper into the hard knock down! I got air h into hadoken h into hyper, they fall into hyper, spam s n the only way I catch consistently is air exchange up! Help

Just wanna share my last FT10 set:

PS: Why nobody shares their matches? The only Ryus I see around are RayRay’s and Jint’s =/

I haven’t got a capture card. I’d consider it if I could get one; how much do they cost, a hundred?

It depends on wich one.
You can get an EasyCap by a very low price.
Mine is a Hauppauge 1212, it costs ~ U$ 250

Thanks, I’ll have to look into it.

In the meantime, I do have two sets of mine on the internet, but I’m not really proud of my Ryu in either of them so I didn’t share them when they came out. It’s of my first ever tournament, sometime back in August. I’ve improved on some things since then, others I haven’t, but either way I hope you enjoy.

I do love Ryu, though, and there are times when he’s made me so proud - if I ever get footage of any of those moments, I’ll be sure to share it.

Nice Arthur, man!
I’ve been working on a new combo for him. Im gonna record it soon.

I was wondering why do you use the H tatsu on your blockstring?

Thanks, and thanks for watching! Looking forward to your video - the more damage we can get, the better!

The H tatsu is a bad habit that stuck with me since Day 1 online Marvel. I was just thinking “get in as many attacks as you can” during a blockstring, not really pondering how to open someone up. Sometimes if the roundhouse kick whiffs, the enemy confuses that for an opening and I can punish it with the tatsu - though obviously, that wasn’t my plan during any of those matches.

Nutrient, the guy in the second video, showed me that it’s punishable by a throw, so I’ve learned not to do it. Nowadays I’m better at avoiding it, and I’d much rather apply jab pressure, hadoken + assist call, jab -> overhead, etc. Though it still needs some practice. (A downside to playing Ryu on the same team as Ammy and Arthur is that it’s easy to get comfortable using the H button instead of L!)

Maybe I should find the time to play more Street Fighter; that definitely seems to help some people. One guy I’ve played with, Bulbamike, runs Ryu as a B-team, taking some of the patience he learned from playing T.Hawk and Haggar, and it really convinced me that Ryu’s playstyle is about discipline - not that fighting Vergils or Dormammus didn’t tell me that already!

Guys, check this out:

I suppose everybody knew this was possible, but no one had it recorded, so Drakengard did it…
