Tales of the Traveler: Ryu Video Thread

don’t even know if i should post this here since i only used ryu like 3 times.

It was a great/hyped set though

A lot of useful videos for new players, thanks guys!

little UMVC3 ryu combo video… one hour tech… shrug yawn… pretty disapointed with the game. I don’t think there is honestly much new/cool stuff you can do… Little mix match here and there I guess… but might be to lazy to duldge much more… will see I guess…

So u can safely full screen judo kick wavedash st. :m: or cr. :m: now? Or is it the same difficulty?

Im not sure what you mean by safely. You could always do it safely vs the majority of the cast. The only difference is now you can get it vs the whole cast to say. Also if anything I find that it actaully has some risk now as when you double wave dash you can pretty easily accidently go into the powered up mode since its just down down +2 buttons. Really lame. So giving him a faster wave dash is kinda double edged sword. Plus with the faster wave dash now you actually tend to go over the opponent more I find durning the air combo. I also think that hard thrust kick now has more of a hit buffer then before it seems, as the same combos are not working anywhere near what a little kick one does. Its been quite awhile since I played the game though so im pretty foggy on everything.

Anyway I would still say stick to old way of doing it vs a lot of characters , and only this new way vs the characters that were harder anyway maybe shrug… So umm yea that was a lot of typing for that but basically I guess its easier, but now that you can accidently get the powered up super, well not really? lol

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcaozKl5KW0 There a second video… Trying to fool around with what is the most damage you can do period. So far I can get around 1547200 or something it was last night? I think you can probably get more though shrug…

Hrmm still not sure if I can find anything cool with strider as it is… Maybe I should just try to find more ryu stuff…

Whoa, Ryu with 2 bars has a potential for 1 mil damage without assist and no x-factor. Damn, that’s pretty dang good.

Are you also going to do videos with OTG assist to show Ryu extended combos, dialupsucky? It will be interesting to see if you can denjin twice in a single extended combo.

Also since I think Ryu’s assist get some buffs from being in denjin mode, do you think it will be a good idea to do TAC to keep Ryu in denjin mode assist state?

Great videos dialupsucky, much appreciated.

Quick question. What sequence are you doing specifically to cancel into Denjin mode? It looks like you do LP, MP, HP, Towards + HP xx Hado xx Denjin Cancel, and then link the MP, HP after that. However, I can’t seem to be able to link the moves after the Denjin cancel. I was wondering if there was a specific strength Hadoken that is required? Or can the Hadoken be left out altogether?

Arde… I already have posted double denjin mode combos in the second video. The hit buffer is already so high though that you can’t really do much anyway. Dunno if ill be doing any assist stuff.

Golden_Gunman… I just do regular fireball. Timing is tight. But he recovers faster than it looks. I press the medium before it even looks like you can move.

Anyway heres a third video…

oh and also sadly it does not seem that dp to denjin mode works. I was able to get it but unlike X factor doesnt seem that you recover in time to get those instant kill combos off it. To bad.

ryu’s light tatsu has been nerfed. it lost ALOT of priority im getting anti aired and air grabbed from it. cant wave dash because if the input for denjin mode. i also think his standing M’s hitbox got smaller but don’t quote me on that. idk the overhead being cancelable is cool but i still like vanilla ryu over this one just because i keep getting denjin mode when trying to rush down

@rayray: crap, so they actually stealth-nerf Ryu? WTF???

don’t get me wrong hes definitely better. i just play a rush down ryu and the tatsu and wave dashing in were a big part of my gameplay. in ultimate hes a better character overall so i guess i just gotta get used to it

Damn, the air tatsu was one of the main reasons I used him. I loved the priority of the move. :frowning:

Air Tatsu never had that much priority to begin with, so I’m not sure if you’re just noticing now. It always was easy to cleanly hit Ryu out of it if your timing was good.

Meh havnt done anything in awhile so just what I had left on tape… The first maybe his max amount of damage with no meter. Almost 900. Of course then the second, you should be able to get 1580 with it if you do the hurricane to dp set up with it, but just what I had on tape shrug…

did not know you could get this s after tatsu in this game.is that new??

Plus here’s some footage of me vs Chris G both using ryu on our team

Nope it was in the first one as well…

I hate you dialupsucky. You keep creating combos that I go through hell trying to figure out how to do -_-;

I have a question though, how are you able to connect the shoryuken into Tatsu Hyper? When I try to do it I end up with the input for Shin SRK.

Also, at what point exactly do you input the Denjin cancel from Hadoken, and the M following the Denjin Cancel?

I do DP motion, then do backwards red fireball, and at the down press punch, then at back 2 buttons. And yes I agree its awkward at best. So I guess number wise its… 623632+button14+ 2 buttons. Again note like I said in my videos where I gave examples, generally(well then again the combos I did are pretty long)going for the dp(a extra hurricane kick)vs the much easier launcher set up (with a sweep and a roundhouse)only nets 27 points more? Or something? And this is assuming you are vs a big character who can actaully be hit by a full hp dp to hurricane kick super and still combo. Normally you have to do jab or medium. Again granted the combos I am doing are pretty long so that number is a little skewed but its not that drastic of a difference.

I guess if it matters since I know I never got around to it ethier. It is actually possible to do a full combo after denjin super hurricane not just a link dp, but ive never been able to find a set up for it rather just like… one hit into it. So… not really that… interesting I guess…

As for denjin after hadoken, thats easy. You probably are just making it harder on yourself. Its much more lax than it looks. You can press the button before you think you can for the link. The problem might be the combo you are doing before hand is to long. Again I think I posted this in one of the notes or something, you can only do up to 7 hits or something? Before the link wont work. To be honest realstically from what I have randomly played in real life and randomly in training mode, I dont think its that great anyway. Again really just doing other combos to shinkuu hadoken do more damage and the meter building really isnt a factor since in fact it ends up being about the same at the end of day. The only use for it that ive ever found over something else, is after a over head. Overhead then fireball denjin mode etc etc. Thats probably his most realistic application of it that is worth it. Pretty hard to mess up and damage is generally more than what you can get competitively from anything else. As it gives you a pretty easy more or less instant kill anywhere on the screen. Other wise I really dont think its worth it.

There I showed some damage comparrisons for some easy bnb type combos with ryu. Denjin mode vs just using shinkuu hadoken. Again I dont think its terrible useful. As you generally build just as much meter with the shinkuu hadoken combos and actually do more damage. I suppose denjin combos are easier for people that have trouble doing the shinkuu hadoken link combos though maybe…

Anywho a few others in there as well just cuz I had em’.
