Taito's 'Chaos Breaker': new 2d fighter!

If same team that worked on Kaiser Knuckle ise working on it, it could be good. Is that animation rumble fish style or rendered or what? It looks way too smooth to be hand animated by a company like Taito.

Just checked out the vid:
http://www.snk-capcom.com/cgi-bin/download.cgi?ChaosBreaker03b.wmv
looks very interesting. A different looking type of engine. Looks like you can pass right through each other, or maybe thats just the beast rides and weapons. The characters look like rendered sprites to me, some pretty nice designs esp the blue ogre. Also a death adder clone in there. Looking forward to more on this.

Looks really awesome! I hope theres a X-Box port.

Eolith sure grew from their KOF 2001/2002 days…

I clikced the clip but I can’t get video, only sound. It’s cool that there is a new 2d fighter out, but from the pictures I saw I wasn’t really digging the fantasty theme. I’ll reserve judgement 'till I see it and I play it.

I dont like fantasy either. But wait until you see this baby…

Eolith started working on it before they even released KOF 2002 (it was called “Dark Awake” back then), and i remember seeing a video last year… It wasnt nearly as good-looking as now.

EDIT:

Some info on how it plays (sounds even more like KOF2001 than i thought):

bump

Is this game already out? It seems the official web is already up: http://www.taito.co.jp/gm/chaosbreaker/index.html

Release for Japanese arcade is December 2004. So we’ve got a bit of a wait until some solid info is available.

It would be cool if someone could translate some of the stuff on the website. Namely, the system and item sections. It seems like a lot of the items are described as having identical effects when you babelfish it…

Tell me you love me.

This game looks awsome. Bout’ time we had a fighting game with a guy who has a fucking cannon.

Looks badass. Any news of console release?

I do, at least. Nice find.

Looks cool, kind of Warcraft goes Street Fighter glow around it.

this game looks hot… really hot… but… umm…

psychic force?? that game sucked donkey fucking balls.

Origin of those characters

Peeps,
If you look closely to the Chaos Breaker video it appears as if the characters are 3-D CGI models that are assembled as sprites ona 2D engine. Something along the likes of Killer Instinct 1 & 2. It is a faster way of creating sprites for sure and since we’re going fantasy instead of traditional fighters they can come up with all sorts of crazy designs.

Some of you may be surprised to learn that Warcraft was not the first place to really capture that world of magic and fantasy design. The first company to produce a series of minatures, whose desigs were pretty much copied by Blizzard in Warcraft as well as many other studios, was Games Workshop’s Warhammer line: http://us.games-workshop.com/games/warhammer/default.htm
Starcraft, with the Space Marines and alien designs could also be argued to be lifted from Warhammer 40,000: http://us.games-workshop.com/games/40K/default.htm

There is also some lifted from the more recent French designs at Confrontation/Rackham:

The proof is in the pudding, how about comparing these minatures to the characters in the game:

So you should always be sure and thank the designers at Games Workshop for keeping the designs new and unique so that they may inspire countless videogames, including now a fighting game.
Peace,
BM

Like some of you guys mentioned, this game looks ALOT like a Warcraft 2D fighting game, heh.

Humans
Elves
Dark Elves (Night Elves)
Dwarves
Orcs (+ Ogres just like in Warcraft 2)
Undead

Either way, it’s all good.

Yeah dis game look off da chain, remind me of warcraft so much, yeah im sold.

Wow!!! I’m gonna be all over this game. Just hope it plays as well as it looks. thanks for the find.

^ Same here. I honestly can’t wait to see how this game will pan out. Now, if I can just get assurance that it will come to all of the consoles (thus making sure me and all my friends can play it), this may be able to get the exposure it needs to really get on the map.

…Well, having a solid engine would help as well…

So far the system and the character designs looks very interesting (the only thing that turns me off is the official artwork but who gives a fuck anyway).

I just hope it won’t turn into another Martial Masters (great game but extremely rare to find).

I thought there was something unusual about the graphics. At first, I was thinking 2D along the lines of 3S, but the animations in Chaos Breaker are much smoother… too ‘fluid’ to be 100% 2D. It looks very nice. :karate:

I’d like to get more information on the game. And yes, a console release is a must.
