with the arcade cabinet taito vewlix street fighter iv button layout there are 7 buttons. Does anyone know what the 7th button for the right pinky is mapped/assigned to in the arcades. I know the standard vewlix button layout has two pinky buttons like in the madcatz te. However, most people assign all 3 kicks and punches to these buttons on the madcatz te, but what is the single 7th button assigned to in the arcades.

Is is used for actual slinking/blinking in the arcades? I have no idea what else?

edit:

I just ordered these joysticks http://www.arcadeshock.com/items/capcom-accessories/competition-style-joystick-set-of-two-cpjoy-cpmisc-detail.htm

here is the Capcom usa street fighter button layout

basically for the vewlix button layout the middle ring finger column is 95 mm away from the joystick and the first column of the Capcom usa button layout is 95 mm away from the joystick as well hence I SHOULD use my middle finger for first column of the straight street fighter button layout. I just have never seen someone do this really.

I am going to make a new control panel on my mortal kombat classic pdp fight stick with the new joystick and new Capcom usa street fighter button layout. I want to be able to just switch the control panels on the stick so I can switch between mortal kombat and street fighter.

as far as your thumb press goes. I know street fighter makes it quite obvious to use your thumb for the tag button. I have seen some people talk about pointer and thumb presses for first column of a curved layout. I think I can avoid this however by just playing mortal kombat and street fighter. If I play king of fighter or marvel I might have to learn it though.

2nd edit:
as far as mortal kombat, I guess after looking things over again you can use your pointer finger for tag and use your middle, ring, pinky for the far 3 right columns.

I contacted to sales people that sell the cabinet in question. They say the button is not assigned to anything. It is just there for KOF style games.
I guess i’ll stick to my Capcom usa street fighter straight layout still then.

Like you mentioned, it’s for added functionality for multiple types of games. That extra button is there for the standard 4-button layout found on many different types of games. That way, you can use the entire top row buttons only.

Although honestly, once you learn how to use a thumb for the A button on the curved layout, I have no idea how people manage to play on 4-button straight layouts.

I think the thumb should only be used for mortal kombat new style layout. That is the only layout down far enough for a thumb press in my opinion.

A thing I am thinking about with the Capcom usa six button straight layout is just using my middle, ring, and pinky for the three columns and not using my pointer at all.
Anyone ever played like this? My pointer is very fast but sometimes too fast. I think If I maybe switched to not using my pointer at all I would be more consistent with all presses.

Most people have a weak pinky finger in comparison to the primary 3 fingers, so it’s rarely used. A weak finger is a clumsy, inaccurate finger.

My thumb comfortably rests on the short button when I hover over the 6 buttons. Primary 3 fingers hover over the punches, thumb near the short. Why do you think the top row is slightly off-center from the bottom row? It’s to accomodate the use of the thumb, as well as fits the curve of the underside of your hand, which makes it easier to access the forward and roundhouse buttons.

It’s simple, yet ergonomic design, is absolutely brilliant.
