2A can be used for anti-air. 2A>5C>623C etc
haha Ryan, hes a friend of mine. i see him play carl at the arcade room once in so often whenever i go.
hes a beast. :wow:
Tager most likely can get in if you try to B sledge hammer in to a cancel or try to jump if Nirvana is in the way. or he its just carl. 720 that hoe
I’ve only played against like three Carls…all of them hid behind Nirvana and I killed Nirvana by hitting her with and/or trading with 5C. Then I beat Carl’s negative penalty ass with like 1 combo. So satisfying hearing him yell SIS! as I land a 2C People’s Elbow for the final blow. mmm…savor it…Nirvana can’t save you now!
Can’t wait til I encounter a good Carl though. It’s gonna be hell, but I enjoy a challenge.
Okay, a minor update on fighting Nu (I encounter Nu a lot more than Arakune, and Carl doesn’t exist online. I think he’s unpickable or something, because I haven’t seen him in 100 Ranked Matches)
Just a tidbit on your defense against the zoning:
I kept encountering a Nu who knows what she’s doing, and figured out the best way to block her mixed blades. You cannot really block all her lower-blades on reaction, at least not the ones from behind. Your best bet if you plan to block continuously, is to hold down 1, and block with 4 on reaction. You definitely have time to block her 4D on reaction, and again, you don’t always have time to block a 236C,D, or at least not as much time.
I have a couple friends who are claiming to main Arakune and Carl respectively, but I am yet to play against them, so I can see myself getting beasted by them come tourney time, but oh well; maybe they haven’t fought a good Tager.
Arakune, I recommend magnetizing early in the match and try to keep them as such. Because Arakune will control the air and if you are limited to the ground, it opens you up to getting cursed much more easily.
She’ll definitely super you if you’re guard-broke from across the screen though, haha.
Speaking of which, I got too caught up in blocking her zoning one time, so it’s taught me to progressively jump/superjump towards her frequently, and always be ready to airblock. I’ve had more success that way.
Also, something else interesting is, sometimes it almost seems like it’s beneficial to get hit in the air, so you can recover-forward and be closer… but I don’t try to get hit. Just be ready to recover-forward if you get hit in the air.
If she guard breaks you, she will just do her normal RC string. It does more damage overall.
Ill admit I picked up Nu to handle the bad matchups (Rachel, Arakune, Nu, Carl). Against good players, the matchup is so much of an uphill battle that I need something else.
As for 2A as anti air? No. It has no range really and most jump ins (like Ragna’s j.b or Hakumen’s j.c) will beat it. For anti-air, i have found to IB and barrier them away for a setup. That or backdash 360B/720C
Throw, Sledge(B), 2B -> 2C xx Collider
I cant cancel 2c into collider it wont grab unless he is cornered.
Is that the best throw combo?
No. I mean the one you do is fine, but there are others:
For damage:
BC, 236b, 5c, 236a, 2b, 2c, 623c (close to 4k, no magnetize) Only work on some characters
For Magnetize:
BC, 623c, walk up 6c, 5d. After 5d you could 421b or 623c if they air tech
^(Less damage, around 3.2k, BUT magnetize) **5d won’t hit Carl, sometimes it whiffs on Rachel and Tao, Nu, use the one below for magnetize
BC, 623c, 2d (Easy, save. Magnetize, low damage)
So, today, I whiffed a punch over someone, and then the surroundings turned blue and shiny. I then grabbed the person and threw them 50 feet above me, and slammed them into the ground all the while saying: “EH? SUNDA KA!? OWARI DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!” Then some female out of nowhere said: “DISTORTION FINISH!”
GENESIC EMERALD TAGER BUSTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
Let’s just say I am really enjoying playing Iron Tager.
Ok, so I’m no pro when I’m playing as Tager, but I like to think I’m decent, and I got decimated by a pretty capable Nu last night.
I was constantly bombarded by projectiles in every direction, and with Tager’s limited mobility, I could barely get in close enough to land a hit.
I starting to see why Tager’s getting this bottom tier status. But Nu seems like she could be in for an eventual nerfing.
But in the mean time, any tips for battling a good Nu?
In most other match ups including some good Rachel’s I played, I feel like Tager’s got a chance to dominate, or at least compete, but not when when he’s constantly getting locked down from every angle.
vs nu you basically need to get lucky with sledging through her projectiles
at least thats what ive gathered from videos
Is Litchi A really hard match-up for him, or am I a bitch?
Easier than Nu, Ara for sure. Sledge beats her DP & flying staff since those count as projectile. And when she don’t have the staff your poke suddenly have better reach than her =D. Back dash works pretty nice.
At first I felt the same way about Nu, but after a weeks worth of only seeing Nu online, I’ve found that Tager actually fares pretty nicely against her. Once they figure out they can’t sword spam cause you can sledge through and punish them, they start to rely on their C attacks far too much and you just need to sneak in a few good combos. I personally catch them sword spamming, sledge through, grab, and combo off of the grab to do about half their life.
Arakune is another story
I’ve actually had similar stories to online Arakune players.

Here’s a random match I have of one, you can probably see I do a grand total of…4 moves, maybe? There’s nothing special about how I was playing, just spam the sledge and break through the clouds. A lot of Arakune players don’t really attack until they curse you from what I’ve seen, though admittedly the one in the video didn’t punish me nearly enough when I get hit by hit, so he might not have been all that great with him. I can feel for you when he DOES bug juggle you though, it’s hard as hell to recover from that.
I struggle against Hakumen and Ragna though, Hakumen is easily the worst person for me to fight…I think I’ve lost every single fight against him online. His range is pretty damn big + he hurts a lot, even for Tager. Ragna usually combos me and it’s hard for me to counterhit(even with A) because his attacks just come out faster.
Can Tager’s 720 be teched when it is in a combo? If so, is it not by the normal method?
I feel like I’m teching at the right time when I normally would, but it still gets off.
yes you can tech it in a combo, but if you mash it doesnt work
you have not fought a good nu. this doesnt really surprise me consider i have destroyed every nu i have played online because they dont know how to anti-air or how to always stand out of B sledge range. so i can understand why youd think this, but it is absolutely not true.
Can someone help me out and tell me how to play against Rachel? I haven’t really been playing online matchs only with one of my friends, so anyways I played a couple matches online and got raped but one that got me mad was a Rachel thet Spammed that move where she throws something that turns into rods(sorry don’t know what that move is called) and I just couldn’t get close enough to her to do damage. I love playing with Tager although I suck with him. I wish I could do the 720 motion on my stick :wasted:
The sledges completely ignore the projectile part of the rods, and ignore the electricity. Also a lot of Rachel’s will want to play the zoning game so just do 421b to charge up and fire a shot to get her to you.
