Tablets

Don’t know if this belongs in Tech Talk (sorry if it does) but I figure I would ask here first since I notice the majority of posters has one.

Someone I know is selling their Graphire 4 tablet which he claims is either 4x5 or 4x6 in drawing surface area for $75. He has owned it for 2 years but is willing to compromise for a better price.

At the same time I’m looking at Bamboos for roughly the same size and around $50-60 on Amazon. I’m willing to spend $100 max. Although I might sound picky, I wish to find a tablet at a bigger size (since I’m used to drawing on 9x11 paper) but it’s not the end of the world if I can’t find one.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

You’d be surprised by how much use you can get out of your tablet. It may not seem like much room but think of it as drawing in a 4x5 square of a larger paper that you can move around in. But make sure the tablet you get matches your screen size. If you have a wide panel display, you should think about getting one of the wider tablets.

If you get the bamboo, go ahead and get the writing version of the tablet. The specs are the same for the bamboo for drawing and for writing, the only difference is that the drawing version costs more and has a different button layout at the top (which, imo, is completely useless and not worth your time).

Thanks for the responses so far.

I have a laptop with a 1280 x 768 widescreen. I occasionally use PS but chances are I’ll be practicing with OpenCanvas (if there is an issue anyone has encountered with those programs at all with their own tablets).
