this whole giving KB players macro capabilities is stupid. It’s like running a Golf tournament and saying: “this course here is a par 3, but for you, since you have no experience with real golf irons, and your using cheap plastic ones, this same course that’s par 3 for everyone else is par 5 for you”
That’s some cheap shit, no tournament ever gives handicaps to any player. If you’re giving handicaps to KB players I want those same handicaps on my 8 button stick.

That’s an ARCADE tourney. Of course there’s gonna be no macros. This is a CONSOLE tourney. If XvSF was played on a cab, then sure, no macros. But guess what? We aren’t in an arcade, we arent on a cabinet. (If you are bringing a cab to T8 then I will shut my mouth).
Jreneirt, a lot of keyboards (I know mine), doesnt allow for more than 3-4 buttons to be hit at a time.
As far as giving it to JUST keyboards I actually agree with Ottawa. It’s not fair to them now. Either you say no macros or macros for everyone. You can’t say only keyboard people can have them, or only pad players. Either you give macros to everyone or just take them out completely.
No he hasn’t because in GG you’ll never be pressing 3 buttons at once that many times in an attempt to actually do something, maybe not even 10 times per minute. All it’s used for is RC/FRC. And like I said before, in GG there’s more frames to press buttons simultaneously compared to other fighters.
I think this whole macro situation is pretty game-dependent so people should be arguing their reasons for games they actually know shit about.

Another thing. What if two keyboard players end up playing each other, how the fuck is that gonna work? I like playing mag/chun on a keyboard better than on a stick, but wait a minute, I’m forced to use a stick if I’m playing a keyboard player. I guess because its me I’m shit out of luck right? I guess you guys never thought about that when you all made claims of how we’re “forcing people to play on sticks by banning macros” I’ll wait for someone to say that I’m just being difficult because of the situation but its a possible scenario.
When Stephen said “normally” he probably meant without the use of macros, rather than only using sticks. Despite how it sounded I doubt he has anything against pads themselves, just the fact that pad people want exceptions made to give a leg-up to the players.
You mention Tekken 5 machines, but think about that: probably more than 50% of T5 players in North America use pads on those machines, but there are no macros, and all Tekkens have tonnes of multi-button commands, way more than SF and likely more than GG (not sure). Those players realized the conditions and adapted, they created ways to use their right hand to play the game effectively and still use the pad. I dunno what’s holding you guys back. Yes T5 is still the arcade version, but to a lot of people the arcade is what lays the guidelines for what is and isn’t competitive for tournaments. In my opinion macros just barely cross that line, for 3S at least.
Not everyone is a member of SRK, not everyone is as informed of the fighting game community as we are, not everyone can eBay shit, what the fuck, you’re saying everyone has to conform to some kind of mold just to play in a tournament. Look, I don’t care whether its a “competitive tournament” or not, I just want my players and others to have an oppurtunity to have fun. If in-game macros is the way they’re going have the most fun and best oppurtunity competing against the best, then what the fuck, I’m going to fight for it.
You guys all act like in-game macros is an instant win or something. It’s not. I don’t know where you get the idea that it is. Why don’t stick players actually try playing on pad and find out for themselves it can be just as challenging as the stick itself?

Seriously though Herb, openly admitting that you don’t care about the integrity of the tournament and that you and your boys having fun is all that matters isn’t exactly the surest way to help your case. This is a competitive site, naturally most people here are purists and to them tournaments are going to be about more than just fun.
Edit - Bear: yeah, people can use whatever they like, I assume that much is guaranteed. Obviously it has to work on whatever console your game is on though.

Hm, well I never questioned the tournament or said I didn’t care about integrity, don’t get me wrong, I understand what you guys are saying about macros and I stress that I completely understand and agree (I play stick, now.) but this is the ONE oppurtunity in these guys gaming lives to play competitive tournaments. There are plenty of arcade tournies out there, where obviously no macros is allowed and games are played in their truest form. But, this is a rare oppurtunity (console tournament) and a console tournament should reach out to players of all walks.
