T8: Games/Rules Discussion

basically what i thought you would say

mashing out of a tempest is usually pretty key. I’ve hit start buttons lots when i’m using random MAS joysticks.

Lol? How exactly do you hit the start button when you’re mashing out of anything? I think you’re mashing wrong, cause your right hand shouldn’t even be moving.

EDIT: Well, even with proper mashing, if you have exceedingly long fingers, I can see how you would touch the start button. My bad if you do…

mashing>press start button>DQ…(cough!pui!cough!)

good to know the rule btw

There are different ways of mashing… two sweeps with your whole hand usually works too. (Diagonal up right, Diagonal down right)

Yeah there are, but some are better than others. If you play on US sticks, for example, the sweeping hand method can ruin your fingers, and it’s just not as effective as the (what I thought was the OG standard) traditional method which is covering all 6 buttons with your hand and “trembling” so that you get about 6 (inputs per second) x 6 (buttons) x 2 (accounting for negative edge) = 72 inputs per second. Not only does this method allow you maximum control (your hand doesn’t go anywhere), but it’s more efficient than the swipe, and it doesn’t hurt your fingers when playing on concave buttons.

And speaking of mashing, you guys remember the MK bonus stage? Me and some guys used to use batteries to mash at peak performance.

Can you further describe this “trembling”? From what I can tell, I’m thinking of the method where you put a finger on lp/lk, mp/mk, and hp/hk and tapping those fingers sequentially. Unfortunately, it seems that simultaneous presses count as one…?

I just place my hand over ALL the buttons, and vibrate (that sounded so gay ). Imagine your hand trembling from cold, and that’s pretty much how I do it, except it’s a lot faster. I do this while jiggling the stick from left to right, and I can pretty mash out of any throws with maximum efficiency using this method. It’s actually the stick wiggling that does the majority of the work IIRC (in SF games, at least), not the button mashing.

I put my hand over the buttons and swipe back and forth really fast. I find button mashing much more effective than stick jerking.

I tested it once.

chun li super in xvsf

regular: 15 hits
max 30 hits
stick jerking without button mashing: 18 hits
button mashing without stick jerking: 28 hits
both: 30 hits

that’s just for my mashing style.

apparently if you do the maximum inputs for spirals grab in MVC2, you can do 140 damage if they don’t counter mash.

Yeah that’s why I added in SF games. In VS games, I was almost 100% positive that button mashing counts for way more. Either way, I do both, and the only reason I mentioned the wiggle factor was cause one of the better OG Cali players mentioned it once in some random thread, so just thought I’d throw it out there. :wgrin:

EDIT: I just did some tests in 3S/ST. It’s hard to see a difference but it seems wiggling and mashing got similar results in ST. N. Ken’s knee bash does 5 hits without mashing/wiggling, and 6 hits with either, 6 hits with both. When wiggling, 360 motions still gets 5 hits, while wiggling left to right (which is what I’ve always done) nets you 6. In 3S, using Oro’s neutral throw, you get 6 hits either way without counter mashing, but wiggling seems to speed up the hits more than mashing, which I guess indicates that wiggling has more of an effect. But then, with Ken’s neutral throw, mashing seems to speed up the hits more than wiggling. I dunno, maybe shit has changed over the years. It’s irrelevant really, cause almost everyone wiggles and mashes at the same time.

I remember the Tekken 5 stick being very difficult to reach the buttons/switches properly when opening the stick.

What about when the controller ur using fucks up? like half way through the game it disconnects for a while. some games automatically pause, some games dont. what do we do with those?

Rstd Is A Beast!

If i’m doing a combo and anyone interrupts my concentration in any way, causing me to lose focus and miss the combo, i’m going to choke the person who did, completely out. This is only if they are not DQ’d and end up winning.

That’s my own personal rule.

i dunno some joysticks weren’t made for mashing, i made my stick custom made and my start button is far away.

But i’ve played on other peoples sticks where the start buttons is beside the punch buttons… pretty ghey… sheesh…

Is this a games/rules discussion?

West Coast players all start in losers bracket with 1 match loss penalties, didn’t you know?

Yeah, it’s only fair to give you guys the odds… otherwise, we would destroy you.

I bet you suck.
