T11 Discussion: Inputs needed

1.) Expiration date on this thread is silly. There are exceptions to every rule, and this THE BIGGEST TOURNAMENT TORONTO HAS EVERY YEAR. Any discussion inside a regional thread for T11 will be disjointed, buried, and fucking useless. Justin, you’re a moderator, YOU decide how the rules are enforced in this forum. Use your discretion. Just because you sticky/keep THIS thread open, doesn’t mean you have to allow other similar threads.

2.) TFNS is cool if we have access to all the space.

3.) September sounds good actually.

4.) ONLY TEAMS FOR SUPER is also the best idea. I also had to wait ridiculous amounts of time last year because my ST team and SFIV team were continuously engaged in other games.

5.) We need a volunteer staff/team this time around. Every other tournament has them, and they make things run so much smoother. T11 isn’t likely to be massive, but a staff would still help. Russell, find a group of responsible volunteers, and make sure they’re differentiated from the rest of the crowd.

6.) STREAM. The stream is hella important. No major is run nowadays without a stream… nobody is going to care about youtube videos from a Canadian tournament, but if the stream is good, you will guaranteed have tons of people watching. If the internet at TFNS isn’t good enough, consider getting a rocket stick, or something similar.

There will be a Marvel tourney at T11, I don’t care what Curt says.

To be honest…

Whoever is the lead man on this, needs to find responsible tournament directors to take care of ALL the details of each tournament including equipment.

TBH I think the entire thought process and structure of the T tournament needs to be redesign from the bottom up. We are in 2010 people not 2002 (No offense to previous organizers meant). Super 4, Tekken 6, Blazblue are the only games that matter right now in Toronto. If people want to run another game, there needs to be a director who steps up to the helm and says “Hey, i’ll get the equipment, run the brackets you just tell me when, where and how.”. Unless this happens, old games should just die off because the only people who care for them are the people who won’t lift a finger to make things happen.

Also, Livestreaming is a MUST HAVE. If you’re not going to live stream, then you might as well call this tournament, T11: Back to the Future. Live streaming brings up your audience levels and seeing as this is the “Canadian Nationals” it’s totally unacceptable for this to NOT have a stream. There are a few people I can think of that can make this happen at a quality level. There’s also the prospect of landing sponsors but I won’t delve into that as nobody here is qualified to speak on the topic anyways.

Either way, the first weekend of September is by far the best weekend to this event.

RXS

I think T11 is important.

No doubt. But we gotta make sure that anyone who can’t win should be asked not to play. It only makes sense.

On the topic of games: I want to run a random game tourny for shits and giggles. I have the equipment, I have plenty of napkins to write the brackets on, and space required will be at a minimum. I’m thinking Sunday as this ought to be out of the way of every other major event so as not to suck on time. This is meant simply as a fuck around for people who get bodied early or don’t enter a tournament cause they can’t win. If it ends up being a problem about space, I’ll bring extension cords and power bars, set a tent up outside and get it done there.

I support u 100% russel. I’m glad to see an experienced tournament organizer such as urself is so open minded and easy going about things. ppl who opposed ur idea of this thread are only jealous of u so just ignore them. I’m confident with the full support from TOSF and its friends, u’ll have no problem in making T11 better than ever before.

I also think team tournaments is a waste of time, but team for SSF4 is definitely needed to bring hype. If SSF4 is the only game for team tournaments, we can definitely run it fri night and finish it before sat.

yo forget these tournaments, RANDOM GAME TOURNAMENT FTW

Yeah why not make this a 3 day event. With Saturday and Sunday being the main days. On Friday you can host all the older games so they don’t take up time from the main attractions. Friday can be an optional day; you can run the team tourney for those that are interested, and Marvel/HDR/3s etc… so that they are out of the way and make people happy.

Random game tournament would be mad hype.

Fri night is usually brings the most hype so random games should not be ran on friday. It should limit to team tournaments, exhibition matches or 5v5 for SSF4. If T6 or BB attracts enough interests for team tournament, that can happen too. But since not that many ppl play mvsc2, 3s etc… the side tournies should happen sat.

If you guys do SSF4 on Sat/Sun, I’ll come up with a friend. I don’t know that any of the top Michigan players (Alucard and Wolfkrone, basically) have passports, but I’ll let them know. I also vote Labour Day weekend.

  1. Team tournament is Good. But why would you run it FRIDAY NIGHT?!?!? Did you guys not learn anything from Last year?!?! You should Run singles then see who is interested in Team tourney. you don’t want something spanning two days.

  2. TFNS is a good Venue. But its location is NOT convenient to anyone other than those who live downtown. Also…no Food near the Venue is a HUGE MINUS!! TFNS is great for Tournys but I’m not too sure about a Major.

  3. End of Aug/Beginning Sept is best. Russel why do you want a tourney on a Long Wknd. We only get so many.

  4. Soul Calibur 4 will DEFINETELY BE THERE. We don’t need SF players’ approval to know how deep and active our community is. Suck it.

  5. Its amazing how people are SO QUICK to jump on someones ideas, without offering their solution. Why can’t you guys stop arguing and figure out a common solution. Everyone is so quick to point out the others’ flaws but has nothing to input themselves. STFU NOOBS…

  6. BB community doesn’t like you guys. Waste of a tourney IMO

Lol this thread makes me laugh.

While from a space perspective I don’t believe TFNS is the best solution (granted I haven’t seen the expanded setup with back/upstairs), I do think it’s the best compromise both for location and for cost. It’s easy for a lot of people to say “well it’s out of the way” but those people haven’t been footing the bill and sweating the return on venues in the past. TFNS takes the financial burden off of volunteering players instantly in terms of venue cost. The last T tournament I paid for cost $2000 and I believe the last two have cost more than that. If someone wants to write the new organizational staff a cheque so they can get something more convenient to you I’m sure they’d appreciate the load off.

Food does represent a difficulty but there are options around or people could simply look into delivery. The folks in Montreal order pizza and Chinese food regularly (or they did for previous tournaments) and there’s no reason to think the players couldn’t do so in this situation. A little organization in that regard solves the food issue.

It should also be noted that TFNS has a ton of built in stations off the hop. Anyone that has organized larger tournaments in the past will tell you that getting lagless screens + consoles + extra games is by no means an easy task.

A big opportunity has been handed to the community with TFNS. Please take some time to realize the logistical advantages of running out of that venue before discounting it on account of it being slightly inconvenient (re: food) or not immediately being off the highway/subway line.

We here at TFNS are willing to make any necessary suggestion in regard to helping make the venue better.

In regards to T11 we would welcome the opportunity to host it.
Off the top these are the things we have going in regards to the venues.

4 dedicated rooms that can set up for smaller Tournys
Main large room SSF4.
8 XBOX station setups (and looking to get more).
2 Playstation setups on the way.
2 washrooms

The Internet:
Th outstanding issue we have is the internet isn’t the greatest, but that issue is being looked into as we speak.

Food:
I can coordinate a pizza/catering of some kind for the venue at minimal cost overall.

What happened to the venue at Warden/Eglinton last year?

My opinion would be to include teams, but basically do it like most people. First day, run singles til top 8/16. Run teams on 2nd day and finish the top 8/16 after singles.

1st- September is good since Im not going to school nemore

2nd- Please make it at TNFS since its downtown Toronto at least there will be something to do for us out of towners.

3rd-See ya’all at T11

Russell:
Get a group to run T11 and close this thread. Get their input and run it your way. Theres not much time so wtvr

SSF4 teams + random game tournaments.

Truth.

Super teams - You NEED this. Name one American Major that didn’t have a team event for 4. Seriously, you’ll be making a huge mistake by not including this

TvC - Don’t bother. No one plays this game. I love it, but I’m also a realist.

BB - The community has good ties with Dice, I wouldn’t be worried about pulling those guys in. They’ll be treated properly this time around.

Looks like everything else is on the right track.
