Thrust Peak works well against Vega wall dive. Just make sure you know which side he’s on before you input.
Otherwise, you need to stop punishing with jab links and punish with jab Typhoon at least. Landing jabs that push a character like Vega/Blanka back to mid-range isn’t helping your pressure game. Keep up the pressure more often. Even against Blanka with meter (I saw that delayed EX Tomahawk Buster to beat EX Up Ball, good shit) you need to force him to use it. And there’s no reason to not be in a meter less Blanka’s face after a knockdown. You want to get inside and stay there for as long as possible, not default back to mid-range and start all over again.
I agree that Blanka was just trash and in that Claw match the condor dive at around 1:28 should’ve been punished with u2 for the win. Looked like he had charge too but just wasn’t thinking or something.
Cheers for the feedback lads I will work on everything.
I could definitely use EX Spire better, I was mainly using it to get closer but yeah it’s pretty risky.
The Blanka was indeed terrible - he won game 1, but it was my first match after a couple days break so I was kinda groggy, so I woke up a little after that and then he wasn’t really a trouble.
“Not enough Jab SPD” is the main bit of criticism I get from the people I play with often, certainly in matches that I don’t play often I default to using jab. Against Vega in particular with his constant back-flipping I get a bit afraid to use it and go back to jabbing to be on the safe side, but it’s something I’m constantly striving to improve.
I didn’t think to use Thrust Peak on wall dives, I’ll get some practise in on that because currently I don’t have a consistent method of dealing with them and it gets me blown up all the time.
I have nothing to say about that Condor Dive, it was moronic and I should have been punished.
And as far as taunting goes, I try not to taunt in games unless I’m fooling around with friends. But scrubby players shouldn’t taunt at the start of a game against their best match up.
Oh god, I experienced this recently against a Dee Jay Player. He turtled on me like crazy and taunted at me at every opportunity he had. When I about to beat him he raged quit, called me a pussy and had the adacity to insult my intelligence by saying that the Hawk vs Dee Jay matchup is 9 - 1 in HAWK’S favor. Lol o_O
Thrust peak can stuff wall dives but be careful about the timing, it can trade a lot and that’s not in your favor. St.mp also works sometimes. Just curious, any Hawk players at seasons beatings?
I didn’t see any on stream, pretty sure someone said they were going in the locked Online Warrior thread though.
With things like wall dives close St.MP would be my go to solution but I can be really balls with hitting with it and not getting regular St.MP, in an ideal world they would change close to a command normal like back MP or something.
Thrust Peak catches cross-ups though. If you can catch Vega when he’s around your head, you should be able to knock him out of wall dive. Trade is worth the risk if you can get Vega beside you.
Ugh, you have no idea how much I want this. A reliable anti-air command normal that actually moves in an upward arc instead of up to down would make a huge difference for hawk, imo. Stupid Ken and his stupid crossup tatsus.
I usually use U2 against Adon, stops him from trying jaguar kick shenanigans as much.
Also a friend uploaded a bunch of my replays to his channel, check them out if you want I’ll share a few

I’ve played smokemonster before and I think I beat him by turtling to the extreme. HE JACKED MY SECRET COMBO - j. HP, st lp, cr. lk, lp SRK!!!
You sure messed that Ibuki up. I about died when smokemonster did the spire and you got him w/ U2…good reactions but if I was playing against you I would have stayed grounded with that much health! LMAO
Any reason why you don’t force Sim to deal with the ambiguous cross-up splash after jab Typhoon? Looked like you were trying to avoid it completely for some reason.
In my experience most Sims teleport away when I go for crossups on their wakeup, I wanted to stay grounded so that if he teleported backwards or back-dashed I could punish with roundhouse, sweep, or a meaty condor spire if I was really feeling it. It’s also a lot scarier for Sim if you’re right in front of his face, he doesn’t have too many options in that situation, so I was bullying him a bit by having him deal with me right in his face, unmoving and unrelenting
That was the plan anyways, didn’t quite work out all that well in action, I was kinda messing around too much, throwing out tomahawks to see if I could catch his limbs among other things. I fought this guy right after hearing that KOG thinks the Sim matchup is in Hawk’s favor, so I really wanted to see what I could get away with that round, it almost cost me the match lol.
I played pretty bad against the Sakura, I shouldn’t have got hit by that second wakeup ultra. I baited it and tried to mash out ex spd lol. I kept getting hit by the ambig jump fierce too.
Losers and grand finals should be up soon. I beat the Blanka in losers finals (with Honda lol).
Tip: When you have a chance to grab Blanka, don’t do fierce Typhoon, do strong. Either he has meter and you force him to burn a bar/counter with EX Tomahawk, or he has none and he’s free to your tick pressure. Fierce Typhoon is usually a bad idea. Lets him out of pressure without even forcing the EX Up Ball. And if you’re not going to Thrust Peak/fierce Tomahawk AA, at least try for the EX Tomahawk. Seeing too many uncontested jump-ins (Blanka, Rog, Gief matches, where Gief should be an immediate AA every time unless he has u2 stocked).
Should still force him to worry about the cross-up. You can always fake cross-up (say, do an early jump) and chase the back dash from there. If you’re gonna just stay grounded, you’re better off grabbing with strong Typhoon and doing fierce Spire to get back into Sim’s face. More damage, same situation.
