T.Hawk Laboratory

Huh. Interesting data on the tomahawks. I guess MP is garbage and I should never use it - I’ve used LP a lot for psychic limb punishment against someone poke happy - it actually works pretty well for that online because it recovers fast so it’s better than throwing out a horrendously punishable FP tomahawk.

I’ve had my EX 360 beaten by sakuras dragon punch and simply stuffed by a shoto sweep - maybe I was screwing up on the range or something? From the sounds of it, it’s really good so I should be able to use it to hurt someone trying to reversal.

And did I read correctly that FP tomahawk only has invulnerability -after- 8 frames? But EX starts off with invuln for 7 frames?

That means you can’t really reversal a deep jumpin with FP tomahawk. Which isn’t that big of a deal - one of my biggest problems is dealing with crossup spam but you can sometimes beat that on the 2nd crossup with a reversal SPD because people tend to fuck up the timing and hit the jump attack early to try and beat out any hits.

Theres no way ex takes that long to start up. Ex dp is very good for a deep anti air and actually all of his DPs are good but the only problem is you have to anticipate and do them a lot earlier than you would any other dp, mainly because of their start up (talking about the regular ones here). Ex is great because you can use as you would say kens mp dp.

It doesn’t take that long to start up. It starts in 5. It has invul from frame 1-7

Misread then, my fault.

I’ve come up with an Option Select after cross-up splash, but I’m not sure how useful it’ll be in the long run.

Splash, cr.MK, far st.LK xx buffer MP Condor Spire, buffer LP Tomahawk near end of animation.

This OS is meant for punishing neutral or forward jumps, here’s how this can play out:

  1. Splash, cr.MK blocked, far st.LK is jumped: no Spire comes out, can punish neutral/forward jump with Tomahawk.

  2. Splash, cr.MK blocked, far st.LK hits or is blocked: MP Spire comes out. Safe against 3-Frame moves on block.

  3. Splash, cr.MK hit: opponent CAN’T jump from far st.LK, causing MP Spire to always come out. Safe against 3-Frame moves on block.

  4. MP Spire is jumped in any scenario: LP Tomahawk catches them before they land if they neutral jump. Forward jumps can be punished by anti-airs, sometimes Tomahawk auto-corrects, but not always.

Well that’s it, doesn’t do anything against back jumps, but you’re safe from most attacks they can throw at you.

So as far as i see. There is no t hawk using standing HK on pokes. it does massive damage , am i the only one who uses it?

no, you aren’t. it’s a good move. just gotta be judicious. the big mexican boot gets focus crumpled if you get predictable. great as far AA and catches jump aways too.

No.

It is slow though so it can be focus punished rather easily. But it is beefy and I use it.

i use it all the time.recovers quick in comparison to giefs and its good at punishment.

Personally been using:

Lp tomahawk akin to a jab shoryu. Hitbox is more in front of him. Basically using it to beat out pokes that are thrown out. Works pretty well vs Dhalsim.

Mp tomahawk as my auto-correct anti-cross up shoryu. Comes out a faster than HP tomahawk and has some of its properties as well. Trades sometimes if the cross up is hella deep, but T. Hawk is totally fine with that since you get a free knockdown.

Hp tomahawk as a direct anti-air. Sometimes as an anti-cross up if I have the time to do it.

Can you show a video on this?

Has anyone else tried close s.mp as an anti-air and canceling it right into jab spire? I attempted today and I think it could be a good reset into a typhoon.

Is UltraDavid playing this shit? I haven’t been playing this much due to being busy with other stuff, but I’m looking forward to reading his exhaustive write-up on T.Hawk.

Whoever said T.hawk has no option selects is dead wrong. Ive been testing some shit out after lp 360. My god. Its almost unfair against some characters.

And from what I can tell, UltraDavid dropped hawk for hakan because he thinks hawk is trash. Hilarious.

So are you planning on sharing or just (think you will) keep it secret?

No, I’m not playing Hawk. I don’t think he’s trash, I don’t think anyone in Super is trash, but I do think he’s relatively limited and low tier. Hakan might end up low tier too, who knows. He’s such a complex character that it’ll take a pretty long time to figure out, but I kind of doubt that that he’ll end up low. When I first got the game I figured Hawk and Hakan were both relatively simple and that I would pick which one to use based on which I thought was more effective. I realized pretty quickly that Hakan is actually really complicated, so complicated that important parts of his moveset hadn’t even been discovered yet. The real reason I left Gief and didn’t adopt Hawk was that I wanted to invent a character. It’s hard, but I think I’m doing a pretty good job of it.

And actually I think you were the one who said Hawk isn’t an option select character, but whoever said it, I replied that that would surprise me. His relative lack of good cancel normals, his fast sweep, long jab spd range, and condor spire all make him seem pretty ripe for option selecting. And I’d definitely like to see a more effective Hawk.

Question: what is option-selecting?

Here’s a really good and short option select tutorial video

UD. Geez. You are crazy. In a good way. Q!? now Hakkan!?

Thank you kind sir.
