T.Hawk Laboratory

everyone… dont worry. I am maining thawk leading up to NCR. Ill post in here later =)

So I have spent the past day playing ae with hawk and it was pretty rough… 3000 Or so bp to 1000 some odd pp. Yum and Yang seem to be both a 5-5 machu its not free though they are pretty tough. I use ultra two vs them both its really good because it trumps their wakeup I like th change on the ultra as well since now it catchs a good majority of the casts back dashs and characters with airborne reversal. His bad matchups however are worse … Sagat is still winnable but its very much harder…conder spire spacing has to be adjusted because some characters get hit by it and it puts you Inf negative on hit which is pretty balls. Blanka, Sgat, Sim, Fei are all incredibly hard characters to deal with. All non shootos are all 5-5 atleast while all re ones not mentioned will end up being winnable 4-6s its still early but yeah. Geif in my opinion is hawk8-2geif that match is now impossiblefor geif.

this is great news, but i’m curious

why is fei long difficult for t hawk? why does t hawk have such an easy time against zangief?

It’s a little thing called justice

From my experience it’s mostly a matter of keeping the opponent at bay with your normals, but I guess you can say that Hawk doesn’t suffer his usual weaknesses in the matchup, and ends up being the stronger grappler.

Fei is like a #1 or #2 choice for counting picking Hawk. His pokes are too fast, safe and lead into combos.

I know. I’m talking 30% damage scaling here. But it’s possible I misread it, because I’ve not been able to redo it.

From watching videos it looks like s.HK beats most of what Zangief has to offer poking wise. For the same reason that Sagat’s s.HK blows up Gief also. It hits at a range and angle that Gief has a hard time doing anything about. Like 80 percent of the things Gief does in a matchup can be beat by s.HK. Keeping the match very ground based for Gief. Even if he gets in you have a command grab with the same speed as his to thwart off his mix up and of course EX DP if you get scared which you can easily cancel into EX condor dive to get far away from Gief again. T.Hawk’s other normals like s.MP, s.HP and c.MK all give him trouble also. Gief’s EX hand not knocking down anymore basically becomes an advantage for T.Hawk since T.Hawk can easily put him in a bad situation since T.Hawk can definitely 2 frame command grab him out of his. Which turns Gief’s normally favorable mix up into a risky one. It’s not impossible for Gief to win I would say but it’s obvious that Hawk has the spacing advantage and has the tools and health to not really be that worried if Gief gets in.

I’m sure Fei is tough as shit (as he is for most characters) but I haven’t played against a good Fei yet with Hawk.

gief’s ex green hand is +1 on hit… so if he spd’s right after… he will grab T hawk OUT of his SPD…
When hawk knocks down with lp spd… crossing up is a little hard…

I can understand the idea of this being in hawk favor, but my original reason for commenting was because of the idea of this being HEAVILY in hawk’s favor…

Since hawk and gief are a little similar it would sound to me as saying that ken vs ryu is 8-2 ken.

Blanka and Sim, I found (I only played AE for 3 hours or so because I don’t actually own a console right now), were a lot easier to deal with. Finally being able to get some punishment on Blanka’s balls improves that greatly and the fight isn’t as much as an uphill battle as it used to be - at worst I think that match is going to be 6-4 for Blanka but generally I think 5.5-4.5 in Blanka’s favour.
Sim is nowhere near as crushing as he was before, I played a short set against my friend who’s Sim used to crush my Hawk and we went 3-3. I’m sure there’s some additional science in there except for the obvious EX Condor Dive making quite a difference in that match up but I can’t remember.

Vega is not the new blanka…he can just mash buttons and win…what else…ii im going to try some links and see if anything new is possible… I

I do not know how many of these some of you may know but either way
St.j,s.str,st.j,Cr.f

Jump back jab, ex dive is possible

I’m actually following your replays online.

How about Vega? I haven’t fought one yet in AE, so I like to hear your take on what you use to deal with him.

In the matchup thread im going to give my opnion on all matchups with my personal ratio vs those charactesr according to the internet

I think that Fei is a 6-4 for Fei at the worst. I play a good Fei on a regular basis and it usually goes back and forth between us.

I’ve been having issues whipping out Ultra II on reaction lately. My execution is probably shot for some reason, but its nasty. I got lit up in some matches where a failed Ultra attempt was the only thing that got me. :frowning:

Other than that, I love me that EX Condor Dive and the improved Ultra II. Hawk feels loads better.

Ultra 2 is amazing… I like it more than Ultra 1 now. Having a Crumple->U2 is nice too…

I’ve been using U2 since I picked up Hawk. I got pretty good at baiting and punishing. Too bad I’ve been sucking too much to use it consistently in AE. The rest of my game feels good. Its that stupid ultra >_>

Is it true that U1 range was buffed?

If the frame data is accurate, it went from 1.4 to 1.46

I just noticed this now. That’s pretty nice.

anybody else feels the improvement of some of t.hawk’s normals? standing hard punch is so god like, I actually anti-aired someone with it, which never happened before. I also noticed a difference in the hit boxes of things like all of the condor spires (though I just MIGHT be imagining it for mp and hp spire, I KNOW they improved his EX spire) and I think his dp got a slight improvement too (too bad its still so slow, but whatever). I don’t use N.J. HK too much, other then trying to bait and be defensive, and its longer active frames make it that much easier to use for that purpose. new standing jab is pretty annoying way to safely counter poke, you can definitely see the effects of his pulled back hurt box. cl.standing HK does massive damage for a normal, I wish I found a reliable use for it :frowning:

anyway, on fei long, his pokes aren’t scary in and of them self, they don’t have ridiculously long range and there are others in the cast who have much better and longer pokes (like Gen) and T.hawk can counter all of Gen’s shit just fine in a game of footsies. don’t whiff in front of Fei Long though, seriously, don’t. I’m not saying Fei long is easy, no way, but besides his rekka kens, his pure footsies game isn’t that monstrous. if your in a match-up and having trouble countering certain pokes, lp dp will beat any and all pokes rather easily if you know when the opponent will attempt to hit you (with the exclusion of maybe sim, because I have just realized I never attempted this on sim’s pokes). lp dp’s low hit box and fast start-up and short recover make it Ideal for this.

I really need to practice buffering U2 someway, its impossible to do the motion on reaction. I like how you actually get rewarded for guessing right now though.

No. The old data was incorrect. U1 is unchanged.
