T.Hawk Frustration Thread: Express your anger!

after some offline play and fight against really good players i realized that i dont have pacience anymore to play against shotos (scrubs) jumping back with roundhouse, doing hadoukens or random dps, and blankas spamming everything without reason, and the LAG… fuck ranked match, for real… online play makes me sad now, im understanding why high level players hate online so much, its just lame

Not only that but playing the freaks online only makes you worse. Plus, I strongly believe that good players play worse against random scrubs. Unfortunately, online is the only option for some, like me:(.

That is why there is a site like this that can help you meet people close to where you are and help go to or some day organize a tournament. I met my scene a few months ago and sometimes it just takes some time but you should end up being able to play offline sooner or later until then keep on practicing.

Fuck the Blanka matchup, fuck it to hell. I just played against 2 Blankas who turtled on me like crazy and all they did was kept taunting and acting like asswipes. Capcom should implement a selection disable option for Blanka when someone picks T.Hawk. It should read, " This matchup is 9 - 1 in Blanka’s favor. Don’t go with an extremely easy win. Pick someone else Dickhole  ".

sigh

It’s funny cause I plan on switching to Hawk in 2012 cause I feel he’s better than what most say but a couple days ago I had a small set with a pretty good Blanka and I gotta say it wasn’t fun. Why would they have such a retarded matchup like this in the game? Basically, whenever I got the lead I did absolutely nothing and just turtled my ass off and that’s how I won rounds but if he had the lead I literally felt like I couldn’t do a damn thing. It really feels like it’s a 10-0 fight when Blanka has a good life lead. I’ve mained Gief in vanilla and ae and Honda in super and I feel like Hawk/Blanka is probably the worst matchup I’ve played other than vanilla Gief/Seth.

I definitely find Hawk more enjoyable to play then Gief (Being a former Gief main myself). I think it’s freakin retarded too. I mean literally all Blanka has to do to win is hold down + back and that gives him literally all the tools he needs to win. Why is it THAT easy? I’m thankful that in the 2012 update that Blanka’s EX Upball will have longer recovery as well as landed closer to the opponent. Idk if this will make the matchup easier, but at least it will make Blanka Players more hesitant to use it.

From what I understand the match will be even worse for Hawk in 2012.

EDIT: Yeah, “8-2 to 9-1” @6:54

I love how Zhi says that after you play Hawk vs Blanka you have no reason to bitch about any other mup since its so broken beyond belief.

I thought Blanka would land closer after he balls and Hawk is only getting buffs as far as I heard so I was assuming the mu would either stay the same or get slightly better but not worse. I didn’t think it could get any worse lol.

T-Hawk’s buffs don’t really help him in that matchup (easier U2 will ‘help’, but that doesn’t really count) and Blanka’s buffs help him against T-Hawk. So yeah, it got worse… ugh.

I’ve only been playing SSF4:AE for around five days (I picked it up last Friday) and the last fighting game I played before SSF4 was Mortal Kombat II on the SNES, so this is the rage of a T. Hawk noob, but God Fucking Dammit I can’t beat Dhalsim. I get murdered every time.

Blanka is also damn annoying.

Every other match seems pretty fun though, at least at my (low) level of play.

Hope you’ll find T.Hawk an enjoyable character to play with and SSF4 AE an enjoyable game.

The truth of the matter is that Hawk is disadvantaged in many matchups. If you want to play Hawk well you have exercise tremendous patience and avoid playing recklessly. He’s not an easy character to win with but he is a legitimate threat under the control of a skilled player.

Dhalsim is tough once he keeps you out but it’s not a terrible matchup. When you trade with Sim’s limbs it always trades in your favor and once you either have him knocked down or if you’re in his face he’s completely at your mercy. It takes so many hits from Sim to kill Hawk but it only takes a few knockdowns to destroy Sim.

Blanka on the other hand, is a terrible matchup, universally accepted as Hawk’s worst matchup as well as one of the worst matchups in the game. Once he turtles on you it is so hard to do anything about it. All he needs to win this matchup is hold down + back and that gives him literally all the tools he needs to win. The best way to win this matchup is to get the lifelead on Blanka, turtle on him back and force him to come after you.

I’m loving T. Hawk, every time I land a Mexican Typhoon I’m like “Fuck yeah!”

I’ve noticed certain characters can take down Hawk like nobody’s business but I’m liking his move set a lot and I’m just looking to have fun, not be the next Daigo. Hawk=Fun.

The blanka matchup can be made easier with a few well placed dps vs his ball, and everyone else is gonna feel like trial and error.

Chun Li is really frustrating me at the moment. Can’t get in on her at all, she controls pretty much all the space I want to occupy so well.

The T. Hawk forums can have a habit of being a little salty, but the bottom line is that we’re all here because we all love the character and we all post because we want to make him work.

No such thing as unwinnable baby, just gotta keep pushing the envelope and developing your skills. And yeah, I know that might sound naive and maybe it is, but the fact of the matter is I’ve never had more fun playing this game then when I play it with T.Hawk, and I’m going to represent that Thunderfoot clan at any local tournament I can manage!

Yeah, I agree. That’s why as of late I’ve been putting in a lot of time trying to discover some new stuff for Hawk to maintain interest in the character. I found a few things and posted my findings in the matchup thread.

I think Hawk definitely does have the tools to compete and win, it’s just a matter of exercising a lot of patience which is something many of us struggle with immensely.

Tried some Hawk today… Gotta say anyone who pro plays this guy earns a freaking medal! I was thinking “Ok then!. Trained with the Hawk, now its time to fly =]” Oh how I was wrong. Everyone I played just hit and run then sat on the life lead and I just couldnt get in. Sooo pissed off knowing that everyone resorts to that! I even got my first hatemail today for the match I freaking lost… Just saying you guys are awesome who pulling though with Hawk.

I played a lot of THawk just to see how it is like. He is fun to play. Winning with him is just that much more satisfying then Say Hakkan and Gouken (also not high tier character, so being difficult doesn’t have anything to do with it in my opinion) . His bulky, slow, but surprising set of moves are very enjoyable.

Frustrating part though… His flaw is so easy to exploits. Anyone who even know the match up a little will give you a hard time…

Been playing dat Hawk for about a week now. I could say a lot of things… but fuck every shoto in the game. As if safe jump splash wasn’t tight enough for my novice ass online, II have to hope to not get DP’d. Not to mention tatsu in a string ruins my punish typhoon. Also, lag is bad for a Hawk. Period.

Also, I know fireballs are the bane of a Hawks existence, but shotos make life hell. I have tobe smarter than what I can be at this point in my week old career.

Now I can beat them, but only if they mess up. I never feel like I can play my game with them. Gouken and Gouki especially.

They will always mash SRK through your strings after splash or c.mp, so hold back, stop pressing buttons, and watch them sail into the air. Then dash or crumple into whatever. With careful dives and EX Spires, you can close the distance on warpers, thwack 'em with s.mp or hk, then hold back and see what they do (either warp again, low poke which you can try focusing, or good old mash srk). Something like the tip of jump hp (not splash) from max range is already pushing Akuma’s hidden stun bar right up. U1 does 600 points on this freak, so look forward to the grouchy texts post-match when it happens.
