I started playing Street Fighter IV a few months ago and have been doing pretty well with one of the Mad Catz Fight Pads. I recently made the transition to an Arcade Stick and I really like it a lot more than the pad, but I have trouble doing the double motions for Super and Ultra combos.
I’m playing with a Mad Catz SE stick and the moves seem to come off better and easier if I’m on the right side of the screen facing left. But when I’m on the left facing right, my fighter tends to just jump or perform a special move.
Any help/tips/advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Do whatever it takes to get to or stay at the right side of the screen. Even if it means taking a few hits. Being on the side that’s easier for you will surely net you more gain than losses in damage.
I am stronger on the right side, too. There are many times when I just turtled in the corner and got perfects.
This is short-term advice, which is generally bad. Practice doing your shit on your weak side more, until you no longer have a weak side. Good players are just fine on both sides, because that’s an easy weakness for opponents to exploit; trust me, they will, and it’s better to find this out by reading this post than to find out because a player made you look silly by staying on your side of the screen for a whole set.
@AD, did you get that thing I sent you?
turn on your input display, so that you can see what you’re doing right/wrong.
practice so that your 1P side is equal to your 2P side.
I have friends that are the opposite of you. when they’re on the 1P side & they end up on the 2P side, they get in the hot seat & immediately try to get back to the 1P side!
the problem is the way you grip the stick. I know some people would like to say that there is no “wrong way” to hold the stick but there are easier and harder ways. Just try messing around with other grips till you find one that works for you.
I used to hold the ball with the thumb, point and index fingers, and I couldn’t reliably perform quarter circles when facing right. I moved a different grip, holding the ball at the base of the fingers and allowing my fingers to either wrap around the ball or go somewhere comfortable, and I can do them 100% of the time now.
Also you dont have to do the inputs like you’re the fucking Flash, slow down. Mashing shit as fast as you can just doesn’t work.
