good post quicks, i’d like to know about those flight mixups. at this point ANY talk on IM is good to me since no one really posts here and its literally a ghost town around here… not many people that actually main him i guess and mostly folks that use him as an assist character.
i was wondering who people felt complimented ironman the most? whereas with some characters its hard to find a complimentary cause they are so bad in so many situations its like pick which weakness you want to address… whereas with ironman, its like he really has no GLARING weaknesses nor any super strengths either. so its kind of hard to find that assist that just puts him over the top… i could say drones… but idk, they seem better with other characters. ive been running IM,mags,storm. the real team order will probably become mags IM storm, but for now i need more practice with IM. ive found that em disruptor is a pretty good assist for IM:
it doesnt scale combos since it is only 1 hit, it makes IM’s combos do more damage since it does 90K damage. it makes IM’s keepaway much better since L disruptor is the best beam in the game, and on hit IM gets to close the gap since it causes a soft knockdown…
also, it accentuates IM’s trijump crossup game since IM can use the assist to crossup and then combo off of it with like no damage scaling plus the actual crossup is fast as hell.
so it would seem to accentuate both IM’s ranged and close game…
BUT im looking for other characters to help him out since i want the best IM team that i can get… my team is based on IM, not mags or storm… both are droppable.
so what you guys think? we need to pow wow some more and come up with more good stuff. wolvie just got an easy way to chain his supers ala mvc2 cable.

well the basic would be , canceling c, with fly , :h: pushes back that little bit more then comming down with :s:
It’s week 1 but it can still be effective
imo the best way to do this is to unfly its slightly faster and it lands mega low to the ground , or just unflying n going for a low again
there is abit of a gimmick when you can cancel a move with unfly to sort of fake a overhead , its tricky but its hard to do and since I’m playing online a lot doing this sort of shit was imposible
when facing dorm I started tri jumping over his flame carpet n flying straight after , once his carpets gone he has a problem
I agree with team iron man , what I’m doing , I use to use cold star but I had real issues protecting her as much as I could , so I use akuma now , it helps for running away n poking with j :h: , j:m: and it locks down and clears the path
For what its worth I think Dante (Jam Session) is a great partner for IM. Both help out in each other’s combos and DHC nicely and Jam session is a good way to lock somebody down. It also helps with AA, and is very effective after angled proton gun finishes.
I like flight mode, you can do some nifty stuff (probably week one) like, Smart bomb>airdash, airdash j2H>jS, airdash jS>2M> airdash>jS>(land)j2H>jS, airdash>jMM>j2H>jS.
Note: You can also double overhead with tri-Jump jMM against most of the cast. It’s pretty much better than jAA or jA>jM if you have the option.
my team with ironman is ironman (repulsor blast) taskmaster(hori shot) Dormammu(Darkhole)
It isnt exactly the best team for him but it works extremely well for me. Since my gole with the team is to annoy the hell out of my opponent. Yes I play IM on point.
Some more match up stuff.
Vs Zero
This match up is hard for IM. Zeros pokes are just flat out better than yours. So you arent going to be poking around with standing M too much. Crouching M is pretty good considering it has more range than most of zero’s pokes but be careful because as we all know, zero crouching M is much better than yours. I wouldnt use repulsor blast too much in this match up. I would only use it if he is jumping around alot and doing the forward teledash. Other than that, If you have an AA assist, You will be using that alot more in this matchup. Keep the match at midrange. Keep zero away from you with TK smart bombs and unibeams. You have to dictate the pace of the match vs zero much like you have to vs wolverine.
Another approach to fighting zero is staying in the air, As zero doesnt do too hot in the air outside of level 3 buster. J.h is great against him so use that to stop his air advances. IM’s j.h will beat zeros because of it not having a hitable hitbox. Dont let zero in and you should be ok.
Vs Dormammu
Suprisingly I do not have too much of a problem vs dormammu. I keep the match at midrange because dormammu at full screen is a nightmare. Stay on dormammu and you shouldnt have too much of a problem with IM. Repulsor blast really shines here too because dormammu teleport is easier to see than most teleports so its possible to counter it on reaction with repulsor blast or an AA combo(If you play online the latter might be hard). In the air, Dormammu cant really do much to you. J.m and J.H(all of them) Are all very good vs dormammu. Once again, Just dont allow him to push you away full screen and you should be alright. This is a matchup where you wanna be aggressive and you in general just dont wanna give him room to shut down your ranged offense.
Vs Chris
Chris is a weird matchup for IM, I feel like chris has a slight edge in this matchup. Repulsor blast is not too good in this matchup. This is a matchup where unibeam shines though. Since it is faster than most of chris’s projectiles. I spam unibeam vs chris on the ground. In the air all of chris’s projectiles shoot down forward so it should be easy for IM to maneuver around them. Tri jump pressure isnt too hot vs chris though because of his mine. You have to be careful approaching chris. Try to stay out of air grab range vs chris. Many chris players will use this as their AA. Smart bombs dont really do you too much good here either. Stay at a range where you can abuse uni beam vs Chris.

That’s some nice info there. I find Tony benefits from projectile asissts that keep opponents blocking. Not beam assists but multi hitting pressure assists like drones. While I run Tony as anchor, in the few occassions that I have him out, the best assist for him on my team is with Cap’s shield slash, since it forces my opponent to block my high/low mix up, or I use it in conjuction with cr.h (this is useful for chip damage against smaller characters). With a pressuring assist like that I can choose to use unconventional and otherwise dangerous zoning like with cr.h and rush down whenever I want. Always remember that you have cr.h for smaller characters even if you just get chip damage, just make sure you have a projectile assist in conjunction with it to keep them from moving.
I’ve also been using as my combo starter with Stark: cr.l>cr.m>cr.h>repulsor blast l.>cr.m>cr.h>S. I find this is much safer once you get the hang of it since repulsor spread is very safe if they block your combo or you drop it. Light repulsor blast also allows you to catch assists on the off chance that you use it just as they come out and you can cancel it into proton cannon. That combo starter is a bit height/distant dependant on when you go for the cr.m after the light repulsor blast, but it’s very reliable I find. Hopefully someone finds use out of this.
Repulsor blast is a very good tool for zoning since it can be cancelled into any of his supers and is pretty safe due to spread, so I often rely on it when facing characters like wesker.
Avengers, Cap (Shield Slash assist), Thor (Mighty Smash Assist), Stark (Unibeam Assist). In that order.
I know I can’t play keep away with dante, because he can blow me up there, and I can’t rush down since he’ll blow me up there with his sword range. SO I’m not sure how to handle that, especially without assists.
Against Dante, abuse smart bombs, you can confirm off it most times and he has a hard time covering that angle outside of a risky teleport.
Otherwise that matchup isn’t fun. Also, depending on how he covers his teleport, remember that your proton gun’s burst is high durability. For example, is he does missiles>DT and then teleports, doing proton gun will hit him and destroy the missiles. This works on alot of situations and is can be very effective against phoenix.
