Correction, Josh is also called Jimmy “The Wizard” Woods!
LOL!!! Ok I have not heard Jimmy Woods but “The Wizard” was the nickname Brent Harris gave him.
i just want to say that jason wilson is america’s best tournament director and game galaxy is its best arcade with a big variety of classic games in really good condition.
thank you for running this, and i want everyone know that team usa is going to work their asses off in preparation for sbo, we already got our plane tickets and all 3 of us will be in japan 10 days before sbo, playing those guys and leveling up!
johhhhhhhnnnnnn rammmmm`boooooo
You make the world a bettterrrrrrr
Johnnnnn rammmmmmmmmmm

ramBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
JOHNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNnN!
Thanks Jason for hosting this without you we would probably have no qualifier for the US. I was extremely happy to see people have the same enthusiasm I have for this dying game. I can only hope that this love that we have for ST will spark a revolution to drop the “other” game…
Guys, thanks for all the props and thanks for coming out to the tournament…if SBO still maintains ST as a tournament game in Japan we will try out hardest to have a qualfier…what we “should” lobby for is EVO to drop HDR and go to Classic ST on HDR for one year at least. I am not sure why that has never been an option…
The West Coast seems to actually like HDR, maybe that’s why – plus Evo is in the spot of always pushing new games, and HDR was the new SF2. Talking to a bunch of MW + EC players it seems like we all like ST better. I don’t think Evo would go back to ST.
This idea that games expire needs to go. If a timeless game like ST comes along, it deserves tournament status for all eternity. To replace it with lesser games because they are new is dumb. Knowing that a game will be around for ever is also better for the scene, as there will be no reluctance to invest time knowing that the game won’t be gone in a few years, and the audience doesn’t need to constantly be up to date with the latest games.
Agreed and nominated, Damien. Long live ST. I’m really hoping we can get it to overtake HDR by showcasing ST on arcade or superguns at majors into next year, since it seems clear that’s what the majority of the players who travel want.
Most excellent post! Yea, I don’t think people should stop playing chess because its hundreds of years old. Same goes for ST. Great games regardless of platform should never die.
Well if you think about the closer ties with capcom Evo has created over these past few years, it just makes sense for them to scratch their back promoting the game that you can still buy on PSN and XBLA for what, 10 bucks? (forgot how much it costs)
I agree though that ST should be around forever, and after seeing the kind of play at the qual, I got nothing but mad respect for ST players. I always wanted to get into it but I feel like it’s not for me.
I’m one of those “crappy 09 members” and after that tournament I want to get serious at original ST. So fast, barely any gimmicks aside from Super Combos…that said I think it’s too late for me to get good at MvC2 lol
agreed, well said Damdai, and i also nominate that post. perhaps this is a good way to start things rolling, by nominating a post like that plus the announcement of a major ST tourney coming soon at Season’s Beatings 5. maybe we can gather enough steam to get this train rolling
Does anyone have the brackets for the recent ST SBO qualifiers in nashville? Just wanted to see how all the brackets panned out for the 3 tourneys
LOL, I’ll be honest, I’d rather see Hyper Fighting in this than ST… =P
My friends started playing Marvel like eight months ago – getting good at any game just depends on who you’re practicing with
Yeah I’d love to see HF played more but I have to settle for ST
this, except i’d still be hype as heck for ST tourneys seeing as the new games are such ass
great post damdai and thanks ghaleon for having the guts to act on it!
Congratulations to the ST USA team. I’ll be honest I wanted to come for a spot to represent however with this NEW team I am very content.
Damdai: You are one of the most accomplished new school player I’ve ever known and you will only go higher. Good job man! Miiiiindgames!! )
John Rambo: I always knew about you bro. OG style
Brian Su: I havent heard of you so my apologies but Maryland has always had strong players so I know you will represent well! Give’em hell in japan guys!
I like HF but AE is very underrated, very good game on high level and CE Dictator is very beatable so stop it! lol
I also nominated this, long live ST!!
However, the biggest difference between ST and chess is that ST requires a platform to play on.
Back in the days when arcade is everywhere, you can find competition easily.
Even I have the $ to get a ST cab, I can’t because I don’t have my own place and it will become a major headache if I need to move.
So I understand why DG and V are pushing HDR (classic mode or not) because it’s the only SF2 that can be played on a modern, easily accessible platform.
The original game is highly optimized in the arcade board, maybe in assembly code, but sometime I wonder if there will be an enlighten individual in capcom who wake up one day and realize this - they have created a timeless classic.
To ensure that it lives forever, they need to make an arcade perfect branch of the original code so that it can be easily recompiled on the next generation platform when needed.
Sure it might be $ loss in the short term. But did capcom realize that they have already established their brand and fan base all these years?
I bought HDR / SF4 / SSF4 just because they are street fighters made by capcom. I don’t think I have more than 20 hours of play time on them combined
Capcom, if you cared about your fans, do something. (Seth, are you lurking??) Look at the long term, you can continue to make $ off me until I’m too old to push a button XDDD
Agreed, but I think the closest we’ll ever get to that is Classic HDR. If only CCC2 had turned out better – that was the community’s best (and IMO only) shot at home, perfect ST. I can’t see Capcom caring about a non-HD, older version of SF2 with HDR already released. HDR was their love letter to the SF2 community – if they can’t even patch it again another ST port is very doubtful.
Best advice I think is superguns for ST scenes, as that’s much easier to have around than a cab. I do think that ST can be supported at majors through 1 or 2 cabs or s-guns if the scene is hungry
