I propose a change to the ranbat system.
1st and foremost. I highly recommend that we just have a round robin/tourney every month.
Calling w/e we do a ranbat doesn’t make sense because those need to be done weekly at minimum. Monthlies would take a year to resolve.
This way, everybody in our small group plays everybody else for 3/5 games, and whoever racks up the most wins takes first which leads me to my second suggestion…
We should have a pot for these round robins or tournies. I’m spending about $30 in gas to travel to TO. C’mon guys, open those wallets up.
Here is how I propose we split the $5 (minimum) pot. Every $3 of every entrance fee goes towards the veterans chest. The veterans chest being the winner take all pot for 1st place of every round robin. So if 5 guys enter, 1st takes home $15 of the original $25.
The rest will go to the Novice chest. That’s the other $2 out of $5. Whomsoever places the highest out of the Novice players will receive the Novice chest. If two or more novices place in the same position together they resolve that through a round robin.
This will give the non regulars something to shoot for when facing down the sharks, that’s us. Once a novice player wins the novice chest 3 times, he graduates into the veteran pool where he will have to face us down. However he can potentially win more money if he can defeat a long line of veterans.
Oh btw. Only Veterans must pay the pot fee. Novices don’t have to put in anything except their time. Therefore they have zero to lose for trying.
Yes I know this isn’t fair, but I’m willing to put my resources into getting new ST players into the mix. Drastic times call for drastic measures.
After 3 novice wins, that player might just have enough of the ST molecule in their bloodstream to become addicted. AKA, they’ll recognize why ST is still legit and played by old farts like us.
Now to the big issue that I can see your already asking. What classifies an individual as a novice or vet? Those of you who feel they are deserving of veteran status can say so up front if being deemed a novice is too insulting to your pride.
As for the rest, we have 4 options.
Option A: We go by Past Tournament experience.
I really hate this idea because sifting through everyone’s past tourney placings is a big ass deal. Even then, most of us haven’t even placed in top 3s locally let alone in the states or internationally. Then there’s the: ‘what tourney counts and which doesn’t’ argument etc.
Option B: We could just have Kevin and Brett (especially Brett) to decide who is and isn’t a vet or novice.
Option C: Everybody enters a Novice until the tournaments determine who is a vet. Thing is that’ll mean everyone will start off a novice with no vets to pay for any pots which will suck.
Option D: A combo of B and C. We’ll start off with a list of veterans. Than work from there. It goes without saying that well known local and international players are automatic vets.
What say you guys?
