Maybe an ST tournament when Super Arcade has their UMVC3 tournament? Sorry I couldn’t make it this week, should be caught up with work to make it next week. I had an idea of making a Southern California Super Turbo group on Facebook, just so that we could have a place to discuss meetups, potential tournament dates and whatnot
lol, thats what “super dojo” thread in pacsouth is for? …
lol good point
if not a facebook page, all the active ST players that frequent Super should put up emails / AIM / cell numbers on a data sheet ( if they are comfortable with that )
i have a suggestion tho
maybe for the first big ST event at Super
how bout we run like a 3v3 or 5v5??
hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
When would that be? I think it’d be a good idea to have an ST tourney on a weekend when most of us older folks don’t have work and have time to stay out a bit late. I’m not sure how much longer me or Papercut can tolerate staying up past 2 or 3am on a weekday.
I love the idea of getting a database together with everyone’s contact info. I know there’s a Blanka player who usually shows up on Saturdays and can’t make it out to the Wednesday tourneys, I’m sure there are others who play ST locally in the area but might not have any clue that we’re building up a scene at Super. The 3v3 event is a pretty good idea, but I don’t think we have the numbers to have a decent 5v5. As it stands, we only have about 20 people showing up every week at the tourney, so we’ll definitely need a bigger turn-out for team tourneys.
if you guys run a team tourney i highly suggest having team captains and picking teams. stacked teams are just stupid and no game is fun if you do that… just a suggestion.
Talk to DGV see if we can get a couple super gun set ups for a saturday tourney (would that be cool watts?) Ill be there wednesday. Would be down for a 3v3 or singles the day of the umvc3 tourney or a random saturday.
team tourney sounds interesting and having it on a super gun sounds better too even though i’ve kinda gotten used to where it is now. i’ll be posting up the vids from last WNFAE tonight
It’d be cool to run something like a season finale on Saturday or something like that, but I don’t think I’d be able to do both WNF and a Saturday tournament. Let me know if you guys want to do something different this week. I’d also be down for a 2v2 on either of those days.
+1 for supergun saturdays
Lets run wednesday and get everyones input/set a date for supergun saturdays [© moocus]? Ill bring the magical hrap2sa with me lol
Yes, bring that stick!
On a side note: I had previously discussed the Supergun Saturday thing with Watts at WNF, and he made a good point about it being somewhat counter-productive to the arcade since we wouldn’t be using the cabinet. Thus, if we were to do something at the arcade with Superguns, it would be more of a renting the space type of situation assuming Watson would be down to do something like that. Watson was very cool about trying to help us put something bigger together at Super Arcade, but bringing in setups when a cabinet already exists was kind of a no-go (please correct me if I misinterpreted anything Watts).
Either way, we should sit and talk about setting up something for weekends since DGV has mentioned more than once that he would like to put something together for SCR practice.
what is this Super Gun contraption? is it sturdy to sit down on and play ST? I fucking hate console shit with this playing on your lap nonsense
i really dont wanna charge venue fees and if needed i can just plug in ST in the a3 cab or w/e if thats gonna be required to keep things running on schedule. if you guys bring a super gun im not totally against it, but i would prefer you guys play on cab where i dont need to charge $1/$2 if that makes sense.
i have a feeling this may be on other people’s minds but they don’t want to say it so as not to step on any toes. since i don’t really matter much i’ll just go ahead and say it: it’s naive to think that most of us are actually playing our best on it the american setup. the level of competition that some guys bring to super arcade is so much greater than what their matches display on that cab. it’s cool that american parts are nostalgic for a few people, but personally, i don’t feel like spending any more money on gas and tokens to play on it anymore.
i really hope to see st get put on a decent japanese setup or at least a supergun for 2 reasons. first, so we can have real tournaments where everyone that’s not used to american parts (which i’d imagine is the majority of people) aren’t playing with an unnecessary handicap. and secondly, the practice we get from such a setup can actually carry over to other events/tournaments where japanese sticks and buttons are pretty much the standard.
i promise i won’t harp on this anymore. if nobody else agrees then i’ll crawl back in my hole and leave the thread alone.
Im all for $2-5 dollar tournament simply because I love ST and have fun playing but as far as practice sessions and growth of players I think were going to need at least one decent japanese set up. Not going to play high stakes on equipment i don’t even own anymore. With all that said much respect/thanks to Watts for getting the showcase cab up to par.
Either way its good to openly discuss because were all showing up week after week (well I missed last week because of bills/wedding, but I gave heads up lol) and 3s apparently got 9 people yet they get 2 head to head setups (no hate I love 3s too)?
Only reason a supergun was brought up is that it looks like that would be the easiest solution in the short term to house multiple games. DG and myself as well as others have talked about hosting sessions prior to scr and these are just ideas to get something going sooner rather than later.
Edit: I agree with moocus’ post above, I knocked DG to losers a couple weeks ago because he was struggling with setup, not making an excuse I could tell it was bugging the shit out of him.
If we do the supergun thing, I’m down to pay for hourly fee to keep it running. Just like if you was to setup a game of pool or bowling. As long as the house gets paid, I don’t see anything wrong with that.
is it really that bad that the majority of ST players cant adjust their play on the american setup?
just please keep it in some form of arcade cab
im not down for any form buttfuckery of ST outside an arcade setup ( either sit down Japanese cab / buttons / stick OR American showcase please )
I think everyone can adjust, given time, BUT will everyone want to spend that time to get good on american stick?
I know that a lot of the og grow up playing on american stick but given that 99% of mass produced stick now use Japanese parts (sanwa JLF to be exact) and 90% of people playing in tournament are using Japanese stick, I think people would want to stick with that so they train their muscle memory to be consistent.
socal is the WC’s most active ST/SF2 community. With watson now managing super arcade, it seems like the scene is now quite active.
we are very thankful that valle and watson have been very supportive for the scene.
If ST is getting the numbers, would it be ok to put a ST board in one of those japanese h2h setup?
If there is only one ST board, maybe we can swap one of the games in the h2h to the showcase cab?
Just a suggestion.
You get a like for using “buttfuckery” in a sentence. Lol. I’m honestly down for any thing. We got a good thing going on here. We don’t need to cause another divide.
I don’t mind paying Mike a venue fee to be able to use the super gun setups at the arcade, ideally that would be the best option. We get to play ST on japanese parts, which the majority of us would like to do, and at the same time Watson pulls in some revenue to be able to keep the arcade scene alive.
This would allow for us to play on both superguns and the showcase cab. We could use the cab for casuals and warm-ups, and the actual tourny matches would be on the super gun. Oh for those of us who don’t mind playing on the Wico360s, we could play tourney matches on the showcase cab as well.
