So for the last three weeks we’ve had really good ST sessions at the Pink Gorilla every Saturday starting at 3:00pm.
I mentioned briefly to zass that it might be fun to do weekly ranking battles for ST. Would anyone be up for this? I know that zass had invented a ranking system a while ago, or we could use one of the systems that the Japanese use.
We could also do some one day tournaments and I have some token prizes that I am happy to provide like the Xmania 7 double DVD, the ‘starting over’ DVD that comes with the Yoga Book Hyper, and a SE fight stick.
I’d be interested in something like this. In the past we’ve held meets at PG for shmups, and will be starting our first ranbat for that soon (albeit it’ll be on a less frequent basis - first one is on Nov. 27th, and they will be held 6ish weeks apart, if you’re interested) and I’d like to see something similar start for ST and/or Marvel.
Ranking battles don’t appeal to me because I cannot make it every week, but if people are down go for it. One day tournaments sound good to me though. Gives us something to look forward to.
Pablo - I believe the Japanese have a system where you don’t need to show up each week. In other words, if you don’t show up on a few occasions it doesn’t damage your ranking. I don’t know exactly the system used though.
i think a traditional japanese dan battle system would be fun
-1st through 10th dan, fight within your rank
-win +1 lose -1, +3 to rank up, -3 to rank down, past 10th dan its usually +/-5
-matches keep in rotation either for a set period of time, or until one or a set number of players rank up or down
the beauty of the system is you are locked to your character, but you can enter as many characters as you want to maintain separate rankings. this means new people will always have someone to play
i’m also a big fan of the team matches they do in japan, where everyone in the arcade gets split into two teams and they fight to the death pokemon style
