I wouldn’t quite say that until you get your hands on the game. This is CAPCOM we are talking about
Things that are good:
Xfactor nerf
Wolverine nerf
Exchange glitch nerf
Wesker nerf
DHC Glitch nerf
Phoenix nerf (which is my ho but is fully warranted(fingers crossed for life buff))
Not really happy about the character choices outside of PWright and Strider but meh.
Also not happy that Crapcom released the initial MvC3 so that the world could play test the final product, UMvC3. Way to have 2 dlc characters before you release a whole nother game…cough MK is better cough…Freddy Krueger cough…
Sweet games to James tonight. Started putting my Rufus on blast (gotta find a way to punish the backdash) and had to go to Rose. I think ill do Ryu and Dudley next time.
Drew: this is who need to play.
You’re right.I will be hitting james up all of next week. Also your sig is too fucking good!
Please stop calling Vanilla a beta.

It’s not even that, Mike. You don’t call it a beta because it is a 100% functional game. It’s not buggy, it’s not obviously incomplete, it’s not ridiculously broken. The only features you could reasonably argue it is lacking is online, but it is still more than capable there (though very shitty). The could’ve never released anything ever again and, while people would be pissed, they wouldn’t be screaming THIS GAME ISN’T COMPLETE!!
Was MvC2 the culmination of a 6 year beta starting with X-Men: CotA??
Well yes, that too Ron.
OK guys, head count who has tickets or is going to tekken next tuesday
I would actually kind of say yes to your question, Ron. The difference is all of the games leading up to Marvel Vs Capcom were different games with different stories / and they didn’t announce sequels 5 months after the original game released and DLC didn’t exist to release them as such. Marvel 2 was the brain child of all of these games good ideas that actually worked. Patching didn’t exist back in the days of Marvel 2 (At least for Consoles) or you know they would have patched all kinds of things in that game to make more than 6 characters playable not to mention DLC. As far as bugs go, i’ve seen plenty of buggy things happen in 3. Play Deadpool for a week and you will have a handful of dumb things that bug out randomly (Ask Logan about his super). Desk found plenty of Bugs that were game breaking as well. Not to mention some of them are still executable to this day.
I understand the delay of DLC due to the earthquake, tsunami, nuclear reactor meltdown but that still isn’t a valid reason to me to force this to be an entirely new game rather than a DLC download i.e Arcade Edition.
To me, the difference is they released a (RUSHED) game with problems they knew existed, made stupid patches that didn’t fix the main issues, release 2 characters (That were already done at launch of the original game), and one costume pack before announcing marvel 3.5. In my opinion, that’s complete garbage and we did all pay 60$ to Beta Test it. But again, that’s just my opinion and I don’t even know a lot about this game.
If you think Marvel 3 is anything close to buggy then…I don’t know what to say. There are bugs, there are bugs in every game. Compare that to something like Fallout New Vegas, though. That is what a game that has no right being released looks like.
And in the end…I’d rather pay $40 for 12 new characters (that I’m not even really interested in!) plus all the extra features and balance changes than get a free patch and pay $60 for 12 new characters.
We’re getting everything we wanted from vanilla tied in with 12 characters at a $3.333333333333… price point. There a lot of changes to the core of the game (hud/memory issues/spectator mode/fight mechanics/graphical changes) that warrented a disc release.
What some people are missing from this is since it is a disc release there will be opportunities to get this earlier than the release date, we won’t be at the mercy of MS and Sony’s network, and tournament organization will be easier as the only DLC you’ll need is Jill and Shuma (unfortunately)
None of that warranted a disc release.
Essentially, while it may not have been the original intent, we were beta testing for them. Sounds to me like they took the consequences of the disasters and ran with it.
And your estimates are under the assumption that people would download all 12 characters and that they would have charged 5 per character. I’m gonna take a wild guess and say that, considering our feelings towards the game, a majority of us wouldn’t have (not immediately) at 5 per character.
Ultimate mvc3 on a disc with balance changes and new characters is no worse than super sf4 on a disc with balance changes and new characters. I don’t see how you can disagree with one but support the other. And I don’t recall anyone complaining or calling Capcom names when they announced super sf4… Maybe some of you did and I didn’t pay attention though I guess…
You are doing yourself a disservice for not buying all of the characters. I don’t even have to explain why that’s stupid.
Logan: I paid 10 bucks for Vanilla, not 60. Had I been playing Vanilla since its inception, I would have felt the same way about paying another 40 for it.
Mike: Disservice to who? Not to me. I mean, I can see why you guys would, but I personally don’t care. Side for a certain few, the level of interest of the game wan between “fuck this game” and “let’s pop in Marvel for kicks”. Considering my opinion of AE, I don’t trust Capcom with balance changes, and those + features I don’t plan to use does nothing. If the characters I was interested in work, then I’d opt to get the rest.
EDIT: I say this while I’m in practice mode for Marvel, haha. Hypocrisy go go go!
I do disagree with it since DLC exists. Super could have been DLC and I would have been much happier. My main beef is the game has literally been available since February. That’s all. Not even 6 months. There was over a year between Vanilla and Super. Still shitty, but at least there was SOME time between it. I agree with Chris that blaming the disasters is fucking retarded. I guess none of this matter as I know i’ll be buying it, but It leaves a shitty shitty taste in my mouth. Capcom used to be one of my favorite video game companies and they are rapidly dropping off that list…
Games in Beta are supposed to be basically complete. A game in Alpha is one that is not remotely complete and is just there to test gameplay hooks and the like. Have you ever actually played in a beta with placeholder items/graphics? That stuff is (or should be) purely the realm of alpha testing.
I don’t necessarily think of MvC3 as a beta, but there are things that do reek of that sort of process (spectator mode? we haven’t implemented that. wait for the full release. we want to test the ability of the basic online first). Fallout: New Vegas wasn’t an incomplete game; it was a game in need of more QA time, which IS something betas are good at providing, especially for multiplayer games. Also, Fallout: New Vegas had many of the bugs patched out for free, along with a number of tweaks to the overall experience. It certainly took far too long to become a reliably playable game, but none of that was at extra cost to the consumer.
Well there’s no point in arguing over it, I suppose. Most of us are going to play the game, and enjoy it a lot. Of course I will get more enjoyment since winning is more fun for me. I might let Ron get a little extra enjoyment out of it as well from time to time so he can be happy.
The scope of UMvC3 is beyond 12 DLC characters. We’re talking 8 stages, new modes, and a huge set of balance patching and character changes. I’m totally okay with paying $40 for that. I’ve paid more for less, certainly.
Also, still looking for a place to crash from July 31st to Aug 9th. My only two options are a place pretty far from town (and I work at TCC, that drive would murder me and my 12 mpg Rodeo) and a place with about five other people.
i dont think we were beta testing or that there original intention was to release another version this soon either. I think shuma and jill were the driving force behind ultimate being released. The amount of out cry that was coming for balance changing were there since the game was first released. A baboon with a donkey dick could pick up the game and see that something was not right about x factor. A lot of the character stuff came down the line. But i think after the thrown together less than well recieved sent nerf i think they wanted to refrain from character balance adjustments in favor of fixing game bugs that some characters benefited from such as some of the infinites or glitches that existed with characters. While doing that they had a plan to release the dlc starting with shuma and jill, but the sales for the initial dlc were very poor at best.
People didnt want to pay to suck with jill when u could be good with wolvie for free. Cause if u look at the character release list most of those characters are the same ones from the leaked dlc and beta version of the game list. If they would have just gone through and released the characters as dlc’s and released a balance patch for everything else. Most people would have only purchased less than half of them and been on there way. This was instead of making maybe 20 to 25 a person they can make a flat 40 and still do future dlc’s for a little extra bang.
The other thing I think there is some truth with is that marvel is handicapping who they can use so maybe what capcom feels will be more popular characters they cant really use.
Side note wow i hoped it wasnt true that andy beasted on u with phoenix. Its just so in your face…
