um quick question with this new generation of fighters does anyone ever feel like they lost at the character select screen. i mean i know top tiers have always been around and a few characters usually dominate the rest of the cast. but i feel like most top tiers of old games were generally harder to use and required more skill to use. Which sort of prevented just any and everybody whoring them out as u had to actually be good to be effective with them. i know there are some exceptions to what im saying like 3s chun but for the most part true top tiers were difficult to use. Like eddie from gg and then there were games that were just hard to play in general like mvc2 and ST.
Now a days most of the new top tiers are so easy to use that its a real issue at the character select screen. I feel like never before reguardless of what player im facing its what character im facing that bothers me the most. Cause i know that The skill of the player wont really affect the effectiveness of the character all that much. I was just wondering what u guys think about this as it has been on my mind for a while now. Dispite all this all of these new school games are very fun and i will continue to play any and everything this is just something to discuss.

Yes, absolutely. Every fighter released in the past five years has been about getting ‘new players’ into the game and bridging the skill gap between the worst players and best players. One of the reasons MvC3 was disappointing. Unfortunately, it’s not looking like that’s going to change any time soon. Maybe Skullgirls and SFxT.
I never feel like I’ve lost when someone picks brain-dead top tiers, but I do struggle with not letting my damn eyes roll out of my head when they start doing blockstrings that pull double duty as actual combos because everything is safe as fuck now.
I agree with you jay but theres no real reason to go back and talk about the days/things we loved in fighting games. Everything has changed and probably will never be going back. Its not just fighting games either alot of genres have been updated for easy mode.
Its always fun to have comp and play but the thrill of winning in these newer fighting games isnt like how it used to be. (part of the reason why im playing a heavy execution/mechanics game like starcraft, wins are extremely satisfying)
With that being said ill still play them all until that shit turns into one button for everything and auto guard after blocking the first hit.
side note someone point me to a god like sc2 vid i want to see what the hype is all about.

you can watch all of these finals
any of the streams with a higher viewer count on teamliquid.net click on starcraft 2 to get the streams tabs
Drama
During Pools Idra beat oGsMC 2-0 , MC climbed back from losers to face him again. Idra said ‘2-0’ MC gets into the booth 2 games down and takes him like 4 straight games (mlg score structure) in the last game MC types “are you angry :)” after the final match is when the drama happens.
tons of stuff you have to watch the streams. MLG, DreamHack, HouseCall, TSL, GSL. etc.
3s had Chun and to a lesser extent Ken, CvS2 had half the top tiers (basically the non-A ones), ST had O.Sagat and Chun (not a real top tier but easy to use and win with all the same). Nothing new. When characters that aren’t execution heavy are good, that’s just how it goes.
I’m about to dip out (of Tally) for about a month. Have fun.
