So I would like to get some Friday tourneys going at this venue. We’ll see what the turnout is for this first one and go from there.
This is my first SSFIV tourney but I’ve run tourneys for Tekken and Soul Calibur before.
Game: SSFIV (nothing banned save game freezing/crashing glitches)
Date: Friday, May 7th @ 10PM
Place: Gameology
9742 Central Avenue
Montclair, CA 91763
Entry Fee: $5 ($2 goes to the store)
Prize: 1st takes all minus an entry fee, 2nd gets their entry fee back
Console: 360, BRING YOUR OWN CONTROLLER/STICK
General Rules:
2 round matches (best of 3)
win 2 matches to advance (best of 3)
semi-finals are win 3 matches to advance (best of 5 )
finals are win 4 matches (best of 7)
loser’s winner has to win 2 sets
a draw game gives both players a win
double blind selection for characters and ultras are available upon request
if it’s a mirror match, both players MUST choose different colors
stage is RANDOM unless you and your opponent both agree on a stage
since this is early on, I cannot guarantee all stations will have all colors + personal actions. Plan accordingly.
We need displays and copies of the game. I am bringing my display and a 360 + game. The store has 2 360s but only projectors as displays. We will be using one of the projectors with sound. We will have a minimum of 2 setups: mine plus the store’s projector + sound.
If you can bring a copy of the game and/or a display I will discount your entry fee. Post up or PM me if you can bring either a display or a copy of the game. If you bring a display + game your entry is free, if you bring a game you pay only $2.
Thanks…they are late because that’s the only time the space is available.
If people in the area know any FREE (or really low cost) venues to run tourneys, I am happy to run events at them. PM me.
I am also hoping that given time we can try to run things at a decent time once I prove to the store owner I’m not an idiot and tourneys will run smoothly.
I’m actually old friends with Dave the store owner. I worked at Gameology when they first opened back in to 2006 in Clairmont. If you need a hand running things let me know. As for running the tourney earlier on a friday, thats probly not going to work out so well because of the friday night magic events they hold weekly. Those events tend to pull about 30+ dedicated customers every week. If you want to make this a regular thing @ Gameology you might want to look into the idea of running these events on a different day of the week.
Thanks for the offer of help, I’ll let you know if I need help. My friend is already helping me so I think I will be fine but you never know.
I actually know Dave as well from back in the day and I’m aware earlier on Fridays is not going to work.
My goal is to maybe do Saturday/Sunday afternoon assuming board games / miniatures are not super popular and once a month or so. But we’ll see, let’s try this and see what turnout is like, etc. If like only 10 people show up then Friday nights is probably we’re were going to stay because I don’t want to take anything away from Shuffle & Cut Saturday nights.
Yeah they’ve done those events before. If you haven’t been to the store in a while make sure you note the address, they moved a few years ago from their Foothill Blvd. location.
