Is there clear information or a guide anywhere for changing the art on this stick? I’ve read where people are saying it should be easier than before… I’m really unable to tell just how it’s different.
Does this stick have a plexiglass top that the regular TE does not have? How is it easier or different when it comes to putting in art?
Rich L has a very good point. Don’t let a couple bad reviews change your mind. I bought my TE cause I wanted it and people bitching about price or what not didn’t change my mind. Now that I see the S i am getting the Murdered out version!!
Well I bit the bullet and got a black 360 s edition. Had some ebay bucks from previous purchases, and it came out to around $100 after everything. Around $115 after cashbacks if anyone is interested. I guess I could’ve waited for better deals, but I wanted some practice with it before SSFIV came out.
Heh… I really can’t decide between getting the black TE-S, or getting a $100 MVC2 stick from Gamestop (I also happen to have a $100 gift card to use up, which I could only sell for $90). I prefer the smooth edges with the bezel, but I’d want to put some SSF4 art in there… and I would have yellow buttons, a white bezel, and a yellow stick to deal with. (Not that the 360 fightstick is any better with its shitty rainbow buttons.)
I probably ought to just flip a coin. Going straight with the TE-S stick might be less work, considering how much of a pain in the ass it is for a beginner to stick-modding to find all the necessary info. I’ve looked around for hours and I still don’t know if the TE-S has a plexi top, or if buying a plexi top is required to change the art on a regular TE (I think it is?). And asking questions gets you called a noob, and if you’re lucky you get pointed in the direction of some thread with unclear info that doesn’t exactly explain it… heh. Hard to believe there are so many threads about specialty changes but no “this is exactly what you need to do to change the art” thread out there.
I really, really like the look of the black meshball on the joystick… so of course those black meshballs are now sold out everywhere.
Boooooooo @ buy.com for raising the price on their sticks on Ebay by $3 in the past couple hours.
I don’t know, I just kind of assumed the prices wouldn’t go back up… good call though, it’s worth checking on. If buy.com is doing it on Ebay then maybe Gamestop is too. What would be ideal is if I could find a regular or Round 2 stick for $100 at Gamestop, but when I checked a few weeks ago, either those were sold out or they were at $150 for some reason.
The old TE’s have a plexi top as well, the art is partially secured to it with some adhesive. I know that is covered in where ShinJN tears down a TE.
Actually, it doesn’t really have a plexi top. The art on the TE-S is stuck on top of a thin plastic/opaque template. This plastic template is not clear and cannot be used as a plex cover for new art. In fact, removing the TE-S art from this template will probably result in damaging the original art. So, if wanting to swap the art on a TE-S, you should get a plex cover (same full plex as round 1/2 TE) to cover the new art. Also, Art @ Tek Innovations has a section covering the TE-S with this info (and pics!). Hope this helps.
~peace~
Thanks for that info. So on a regular TE though, does that also require a new plex cover or is the printed lami-label good enough by itself? What do most people do?
I really ought to just buy the TE-S stick and some black buttons and be done with it, lol…
Have there been ANY reports about problems (mostly PCB) with the 1st and round 2 PS3 TEs (i know about the PCB issues of the Xbox version), besides the PC compatibility issue?
ordered mine on amazon. white ps3. i love the art on the white one, also and my experience with anything that’s shiny and black (hrap ex) is that it shows fingerprints really bad. it’s $122 with free shipping. seems they threw in a $10 promotion, i never applied it. im just debating whether or not to go with overnight/2-day or not, would rather it not spend over a week in transit because i’m paranoid. not that i even have sf4 for ps3 so that i could play it on if i get it early, but i will be getting ssf4 for ps3.
really happy about the price though and i like the more compact look. slightly worried about the plexi edges, but it doesn’t seem that bad after reading plenty of responses. i just remember the first rounds being $200 at least when i was shopping for my last stick, lucky for me the demand isn’t through the roof this time around.
